Doing for Others MLK Day holiday Monday, PWYC

Post by Harriet »

"Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ' What are you doing for others? ' "- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thinking of others seems to be a part of many homemaking goals.

There are so many mentions here of selfless giving, and just a few I can think of are donation, cooking for others, hospitality and sharing, caregiving, tutoring, writing about spiritual matters, matching families with pets or pet sitting, counseling, mentoring, cleaning for others, accepting responsibilities in groups, congregational care, anonymous gifts passed along, volunteerism, active forgiveness.

Anyway, we appreciate hearing about it, without the need to brag on each other, and it's good to find the inspiration.

What's your plan for the day? FOCUS cleaning finishes up in bathrooms today. Remember P and P writing that we should go into our bathrooms and snif, and then their gentle reminder.. .. "Does it need some Pine-Sol in there?" :D
And starts in the office or another room that, in your lovely home's cleaning plan, substitutes for office.

it's already crazy town here - but I think it may be a good crazy town - fingers crossed.
it's -2 here and it is saying that it feels like -23 - I had to put blankets across the family room again bc there is not any heat vents and there is a whole in the cement through the crawl space (to outside). Cold! I am going to put the oven on and bake so it warms up.

I was disappointed that a lot of my annual seed, that I wanted, are already sold out.

Our neighborhood is a having an hour and half clean up around the playground/pool etc. as service on MLK day. It's conflicts with my workout and I don't like to reschedule, tho. With high only around 45 day they may reschedule though.

Harriet has refreshed our listing of special dates in Members Only - this would be a good time for each of us to check for additions and deletions! Dee used to be so faithful about checking it and reminding us.

Dh has worked out already and is watching TV. I only have my workout this afternoon, and we're in this p.m. I was a little put out yesterday when he invited a neighbor over for drinks and bourbon sampling and the two sampled and drank and watched football until nearly 8:30. I took my soup upstairs because I was hungry and I finally put on pajamas and read in bed. (I should have served the soup to the two of them, but OTOH I figured dh would do so if he was hungry.)

I made an appointment for ddog for Wednesday with vet. She seems to be constipated - was straining to poop yesterday (sorry if TMI) but is otherwise acting normally. I'm going to dose her with pumpkin puree - which helps with digestion.

I need to get moving, haven't walked ddog, still in pajamas. Monday morning slow start for sure!

Hi!

We had some snow overnight and my FBook is full of a bunch of "school buses not running today but some schools are open". I'm thinking schools in larger towns or cities might be open. Numerous roads and highways are bad as well with one site saying "too many accidents to list, stay home if you can".

I wasn't planning on going out today. I've called to find out when PSW is scheduled. No answer on that phone. If appliance guy calls I will tell him tomorrow is fine, our road isn't plowed yet.

To top it all off, I've had some medication for "cold/cough/total body aches" because I'm unsure if I'm getting sick, so I'm fighting it off. I did not have much sleep after 2:30. A nap is in my future.

Thinking warm thoughts here as many of us are stuck in the cold. Fortunately, in our household, we have nowhere to go today, so we can hunker down.

blessed, it sounds like I should bring up my wishes to put planters on the porch railing to DH ASAP. No use putting up planters if I can't get the plants I want to fill them.

Be careful, Twins! I was recently reading about a dog who had been given pumpkin and now won't eat anything till there's been pumpkin put on it! :D

I hope whatever it is you might have is scared away quickly, Cathy!

I'm going to see what DH is up to and if he wants to play a game. Otherwise, I should go up and tidy the bathroom. Someone was in there when I normally tidy it (last thing before I come down for breakfast), so I put it aside for later. It is now later.

I was surprised by the lack of many seeds that I use - I thought January ordering would be ok - I will go to my local nursery and put my annual planting order in - now I am not sure I will get what I wanted.

waving to you d mystery , d Cathy, d twins d everyone as well! Happy Monday
