We who are Geniuses as Homemakers and as delightful people in general
are spoiled for choice today!
It is Pi Day, And yet, it is also Bake a Pie Day (makes sense), and because it is Albert Einstein's birthday, it is Genius Day (which is where all of us come in, of course), and YET, it is also Genealogy Day, and furthermore, it is Write Your Story Day.
Pi, also known by the Greek letter “π,” is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is just about 3.14….15…9265359… (and so on). Not only that, but the fourteenth of March is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so all together it’s nothing short of a mathematician’s delight.
So, on this Variety Saturday , what will the variety of life hold for your household?
Thank you for the thought provoking start to our day Harriet!!
I have a variety of things to do and I have already done a LOT of things. Dh slept until 10, had his coffee and now he's back in bed sleeping some more.
Dishwasher got emptied and refilled and now it's doing it's thing. Second load of laundry is now in the dryer. ALL clothes have been put away. All other things (sheets, towels) are dancing together, and I hope they aren't doing the twist. Sheets seem to love twisting together in the dryer!
Bathroom and kitchen garbage have both been emptied. At some point today I need to do all 3 litter boxes. I will need another bag of fresh litter at some point today or tomorrow which means I need to go to Walmart during March break.
Now I am going to make something to eat.
I have also been stitching at the kitchen table. The sun was pouring in earlier, making it very easy to see where the white stitches belonged on the white aida cloth.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.
LOL, Harriet, couldn't believe I was seeing Genealogy in today's title!
But we are going to pick your own tulip farm later - just opened this week - should be a gorgeous day mid seventies before winter comes in again. Dh brought me grocery store flowers yesterday, I'm thinking that perhaps I should deliver tulips to dneighbor down the street who had hysterectomy in January, has had complications and now has "pelvic abscess." (We had checked in with them about going out for dinner last night and she wasn't up to it.)
Tonight we have get together at friends' home - group of five couples that have dinner periodically. As I've said, two vegans, two diabetics, it makes for a difficult meal. I don't have the bandwidth to cook but am taking strawberries and ice cream (three kinds?) for dessert. I don't want to spend today cooking and it's just so difficult to come up with something that I even want to attempt.
Anyway, he's home from Torah study and we'll head out soon.

Good morning! (Barely -- I'm sure it will be afternoon here by the time I finish this. Although it should still be morning for Twins, blessed, and lucylee if I don't miss my mark.)
My Wegovy pills came yesterday, so this is my first day on them. We shall see. No ill effects so far. I'm pretty full right now, but I had a large breakfast: 2-egg cheese omelet, a protein shake, and two packets of instant oatmeal. Trying to get adequate protein and fiber; I have not been making those numbers when tracking on the WW app this past week. Shifted the app settings for GLP-1s (their own app isn't really set up for the pill yet; it will help you keep up with your weekly shots, but it doesn't yet have a setting for daily pill tracking). Anyhow, once you're in the GLP-1 settings, it doesn't use points, only a tracker for protein, fiber, and water. Protein needed for maintaining muscle mass, and fiber and water to counter the GI side effects, I think. It was a late breakfast, so I won't be having lunch any time soon. Dinner will probably be takeout; DH's school's hockey team is in the state semifinals, so he and DD are headed down there this afternoon. They will get dinner on the road on their way back. If they win, DH will likely head back down tomorrow for the championship.
LadyM, DD has Hashimoto's -- that's what our trip across town last week was for, her endocrinologist. She started her on vitamin D as well. DD was diagnosed at about 15 if I remember correctly; she started leaking from her breasts as her TSH levels were so high her body started mistaking it for prolactin or maybe the high TSH triggered her body to make prolactin. (Again, IIRC.)
DH is at a funeral right now for one of the former teachers at his school (and mother of a current teacher). Sweet lady. I probably should have gone. Ah, well.
Harriet, inquiring minds want to know -- what was the pie you made for your DS?
Does March break make Walmart especially crowded, Cathy?
Twins, blessed, and Nancy each seem to have their own varieties of things to do.
What am I going to do? Well, I was hoping to get DC up in time to work with DD for a bit on the playroom, but that's not likely to happen. DH should be home to take DD soon. I need to get some exercise in; remembering that muscle mass, I may try to hit the treadmill twice today. I don't spend very long on there at all, so a second go shouldn't be a problem. There's wash, of course, though I'm almost caught back up enough that I'll be able to skip laundry on weekends again. I'll continue on a couple of to-dos I made progress on yesterday: cleaning off my nightstand and cleaning paint out of some little jars DD has. As for the former, I finally gave up on having morning tea accoutrements there. I haven't seen my immersion heater and therefore haven't made tea in my room in years. Removing that basket and tray frees up all sorts of room, but I still have a lot to do. As for the paint jars, it turns out that yes, rubbing alcohol serves as a solvent for dried tempera -- however, it turns it very sticky, so removing that is going to be fun. I will do what I can and leave the rest to DD. Anything else I get done will be gravy, but maybe I will try get DC out driving -- going up and down the side streets here so they can practice their cornering.
Have a great day, everybody!
I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped. -- Prince Humperdinck
Mystery I think March break just makes it seem more crowded because people have their kids with them and that adds to the noise level. (crying babies and screeching kids) The Walmart I was planning on going to is in a mall. I won't be going today and I can't go on Monday morning. I prefer going there early in the day.

Hello all, hubby had an all day vestry retreat so I am lazing a bit. I was going to go to the Farmer's market but no desire. I am sitting her at my computer in my nightgown still and it is 12:40, but I did have 2 small lamb patties and 4 mini potatoes microwaved. I had such a productive day yesterday. Right now I have made 2 appointments and started the cleaning rags from yesterday washing. DH is back just after 4 and then we will do our Saturday shopping. I need to do a big shop for my friend M - she has an inoperable brain tumor which gives her serious balance issues so we have done her shopping for over 4 years almost every Saturday. We call it date day. I will dress and straighten my hair, I let it go curly for 1 day a week when I wash it. I need to pay for the upgrade to our points today and try to work on the free weeks to see if anyone wants them. I get 3 before Sept. 30 but hubby doesn't want to take anymore days of work off before he retires because we are taking so many weeks this Spring and summer. I may offer one to my masseuse and her mom, they like to travel together. I am trying to give one to my son and his partner, I think I need to get them on zoom. May take one with my middle son this summer. Hoping youngest got a job yesterday. He had his interview and it would be the best job for him right now. Cross your fingers and say prayers. It is an Tier 1 IT position in the schools and would have room for advancement and be full time with full benefits. He has a degree in Cyber Security and has not been able to be hired mainly due to AI and the government laying off so many much more qualified people.
Mysterywoman - I hope the Wegovy pills worked. I took the shot for 2 years. a Couple of suggestions. Add 2 stool softeners to your supplements or start taking 2 each morning, also a vitamin D and a b12 are helpful. if you get heartburn becareful not to go to bed on a full stomach and I take 1 Omeprazole before bed the first 2 days after shot, so not sure how you do that with a daily pill. That breakfast you had is very huge- start taking half of what you would normally eat on your plate and chew slowly and until only liquid remains and drink plenty of water. When you are full stop. Save it if you must or throw it away and it is ok to throw food away. I have been on Zepbound for about a year. I had very few side effect - heartburn, constipation and low energy. Watch your hair for hairloss. Protein helps, scalp massages and I have started KilgoreMD which is amazing, a bit pricey but worth it and I use a hairgrow shampoo as well. Get a good face lotion and take collogen that will help you not get saggy old face (they call it ozempic face).
Twins mom - a good icecream to take is So Delicious no sugar added vanilla - it will cover both your vegans and you diabetics and powder a monkfruit or stevia and sprinkle on berries instead of powdered sugar - I personally love powdered bochasweet but you can't buy that in the store I don't think. Or don't sweeten them at all - you could had a side of sugar people can add. Honestly I made amazing vegan diabetic friendly meals and I just don't tell people and they are amazing. I make an amazing vegan shepherds pie with my own cream of mushroom soup made from coconut cream and mushrooms and vegan gravy powder, mix with frozen mixed veggies, some vegan "chick" pieces chopped fine and lots of seasoning in a vegan pie crust topped with vegan mashed potatoes which is all in the butter and milk you use. Then bake until topping is browned. My husband has been plant based for over 5 years and I was gluten free and low carb/no sugar for longer than that.
Harriet - though I am not really into geneology it was Ancestry.com and their dna test that helped me find my mother's birth family and I learned a lot. My sister has traced my father's side back to the revolution, she didn't want to pay to cross to Europe and explore there but I am glad we share a dad so I didn't have to do it. I wish I could figure out who my birth grandfather is. No one knows. There are absolutely no links in my dna to anyone that I haven't been able to trace back. I suspect it was someone who died in the war and didn't have any siblings with children. I stopped researching as I didn't have the time it required.
Cathy, sheets do love hiding all inside the fitted sheet and not fully drying.
KK- great tips on taking blood pressure, 2 other things - don't let them hold your arm in the air and before you begin take 10 breaths - breathe in slowly for 5 out for 7 - do this before you begin and the entire time they are taking the pressure.
Nancy - I intend to make a vegan potpie for pie day for dinner - I might make it a shepards pie as I have things to make these great mashed potatoes, you add a parsnip and loads of roasted garlic. I will make it a steak one - we have these vegan impossible steak bites that are so good.
Blessed - do whatever it takes for motivation. I find lists help me focus.
Off I go d2s, straighten hair, make bed, throw in a load of clothes and then I think I will run to Menards and study and maybe buy what I need for the dog entrapment and rose bush replantings. I best get out my measuring tape first and draw it up. Missed out on farmer's market, it closed 15 minutes ago. Maybe next week. I still need to do my bible study for tomorrow- I will listen to the readings while I do errands.
I'm waiting on my 3rd summery top to show up with 3/4 ths length sleeves.
Not available in my local store.
