Polar Vortex Tuesday

Even for Lynlee, enduring a heat wave that hit 111 F a few days back, and LisaB, whose high temp in a couple hours will be about 80 F, this distorted Polar Vortex thing has got to be interesting. Basically, it has meant a temperature drop that makes you feel because it's so fast. Very rare rascal. The last time it happened this severely to the New York area, for instance, Warren G. Harding was President (1921). Also called an Arctic cyclone, sub-polar cyclone, or circumpolar whirl, that doesn't stop a new twist on a nickname for this one, which is also being called "weather whiplash".

Wishing everyone comfort today, stable utilities, running water.

I've been hearing about the US weather over here. Stay safe everyone. Kathryn and Ken were lucky to get away when they did.

Waiting for the coffee maker to finish brewing ....

So far this morning I have already repeated the sewing group meeting cancellation notifications for tonight. I will make 2 phone calls later this morning to regular attendees who don't have Email. This should be the last time this task will be my responsibility, and I only did it this time because we're still transitioning to the new leadership team for 2014.

Today's 5x5 in addition to 3Ds:
* Take ground beef out of the freezer so it will thaw to make goulash for supper. (starting with an easy task so I can check it off right away )
* Phone calls to sewing friends to make sure they know the meeting is canceled
* Write checks
* This afternoon, warm up the car and go to the post office
* Declutter paper files

Since I will not be taking the time to go to the meeting tonight, I have decided to spend at least an hour at the sewing machine this evening. I found a "quick & easy" hat pattern online that I want to try. It says it can be made from Tshirt knit fabric, and I just happen to have a big enough scrap of some left over from making a shirt last summer.

Very interesting, Harriet. Know it's very unusual for this much cold throughout much of the U.S. Know all schools were cancelled up home because of the extreme cold and in many places, lots of snow. Know the town to our west was to get around 3-4 feet! So have to wonder how much has fallen on our dear summer home.

Going to lunch today with dsisil and her 2 dsisters. One has a birthday this week and they always take the birthday gal to lunch.

Dh has been up for a little while -but no walk today. Temp is up to 34 here. Know that's not bad according to standards but it sure is here! How are Sunny and Harmony doing today? Know dd went to work dressed to the hilt while she stands outside waiting for all the k-8th graders to come in this morning.

I've gone about as far as I can go with the annual report -at least till the proofers finish looking at it. Then I'll reformat it and send it off to the church secretary to print for Sunday. That still leaves me with all the financial reports which will be coming later this week. Hoping the Treasurer has figured out an easier way to transmit so we don't have to spend quite so much time on it.

Off to eat some breakfast. BBL -probably after luncheon.

I stand corrected: It's up to 28 here. At least it's well above zero.

We are coming out of the extreme cold temps today. MPB will reopen about noon.

Semi-annual dentist checkup/cleaning today for me this morning. I have several other stop needed in town - lawyer office (pick up final paperwork), list buying @ Sams, mall to catch the annual sale - 75% reduced lotion at Body & bath

January decorating theme is Snowmen in our home. I am trying to add 1 or 2 decorations a year, being careful as I can to make sure the decorations will store easily (not take up too much space). These curtains should arrive today and I'm hopeful they will fit right in with the other January decorations. I will probably only use the valance since I like having open glass so we can see out all the windows.

Twelve - one theme & color scheme are assigned to each month. I started it last year to see if it was something that would work. I was concerned it might be too hard to do, but the benefits greatly out weigh the cons. I am trying to let it slowly develop now that the theme/color scheme/storage system has been created. Along with monthly home decorating I am also including my clothes. At the end of each month I pack away everything and then open up the new month storage tub and out comes the "new" decorations and clothes.

Good Morning All.

Toes are all done until March. The foot Drs. here do toenail cutting regularly. Our Dr. says it is a large part of his office calls. Medicare pays for it and for diabetics it is essential. I see it as preventive medicine as my father lost his leg because of toe infection.

I'm progressing pretty well on MH packing. Have most of my clothes done and all non-perishable food.

We must leave in about 2 hours for DH's procedure. I think I will move computer stuff to the MH. Plus I have a sink of dishes to do and a fridge that smells like it has some science experiment that has gone bad.

Today we have normal temps. For our area a bit of ice on the hen's water today. Today's temps. 32*- 40* with a 30% chance of precipation a rain / snow mix in a.m. with 72 days until spring lits of folks are more than ready to see it!

H. Was up early, I got up when I heard him in the kit.
The covers were in need of adjustment so I made the bed. When I checked my blood sugar it was low so I had breakfast, then got hens food & water ready & did chicken chores. Trash is out to the curb now as well. So my day is underway here now.
I need to do kit. Duty & take meds. Make more coffee... get a plan for dinner.

Oh my, Okay. That sounds like a lot of work, BUT I'll bet in the long run it keeps things much more organized and thus easier to manage all round. Good for you. Can I come take lessons for a while? Of course I would have nowhere to store bins for sure.

I'm just wasting time at this computer. Trying to clean up one area of our room before I leave the house. When I get home, I'll work on council minutes and try to get those sent off. That'll be one more off my to-do l&&t.
