CNN offers those inspiring quotes from someone who never had much name recognition, but won a lot of admiration from a whole generation. The Professor (actor Russell Johnson) passed away the other day at age 89. I always wondered why Ginger or Mary Ann weren't allowed to snag him - that man was a catch! Tina Louise (Ginger) gave a press statement, very complimentary remarks, saying he was "always in our hearts". He had very little education when he joined the US Army as a young man at the start of World War II. A defining moment in his life, which few knew, was that in 1945 he was shot down over the Philippines. He credited the G.I.Bill for the chance to go back to school, where he took theater classes.

I'm up and sipping tea, checking email. GG and dd18 have left. I've called in dd15's absence. I've let the dogs out, but didn't go out to monitor where Maia did her thing. It is cold and I was feeling lazy - and she's getting pretty good about it.

Yeah, that is funny about the professor. I always wanted him to get together with Mary Ann. Ginger was too girly and glitzy for my childish tastes back then. Besides, if I remember correctly, Mary Ann was from Kansas and my mom is from Kansas -- so, clearly, in my child brain, she came from solid stock and was the better choice. LOL! Sorry to hear of his passing.
Not much going on today, which is good. Dfriend B and I are having lunch around 11. I do need to finalize teaching notes and hand outs. Dd15 may be going to synchro practice tonight -- I'm not sure. I can try to get caught up on some paperwork and tidying around the house today.

helia, I truly hope dd15 begins to feel better this morning. She must be frustrated. Is Maia starting to show some more maturity these days, or is she still firmly in puppyhood?

Glad it's a little warmer temperature than forecast here. Maybe that's true for Mr. DeeClutter's neck of the woods, too, as he prepares for the trip.

I was hopeful that the forecast for our other upcoming lows might have been adjusted up, but they certainly have not. If anything, lower. So I guess this is just slow-moving cold weather that stalled a little.
Today I am studying a new book I'm reading on better eating habits, to prepare for a little wisdom in that department! I intend to persevere and plan out healthy meals.
I also need to prepare my desk area for the delivery of a new computer today. The delivery man has already called this morning, with the sole purpose, I believe, of keeping me at home today. He says it will be delivered "between 10 and 2" and they won't leave it unless someone is present. If I hope to keep my husband's attitude pleasant, I suppose I'd better declutter around the office so installing it won't be a hassle. Happily, this happens to be my office decluttering week!
It's my birthING day! Dd33 is dd34 today. She tried to call me yesterday but had phone trouble and we emailed instead. She was amused at her Yoda birthday card and says she had to put it on their mantle to protect it because the boys loved it, too.
Well, I'll TRY again. Went to check spelling and copied what I had written so far (or at least I thought it was copied -evidently not).
DS-A called this morning at 7 (sounded a tad better than he did on Sat) that now the dgks are all sick. So the plan is for dh to stay with our very dear old friends next door (actually our old house was in between DS's and theirs). He and dd stayed there when they went up to empty our house that was sold in 2009. I had just talked to her yesterday to give her a heads up that dh was coming up. But ds had already told them and she offered to help dh in any way they could. I'm sure they'll be taking him for this one test -if it EVER gets scheduled. Both the Dr and he are disappointed that there's no set date yet.
Going to the airport in about 40 minutes. Would rather dh was sitting at the airport than in traffic on I-4. We do take the 417 cut off to the airport and that makes things easier. I am going to try to find my way to Ikea from the airport. Think I can fairly easily.
My study today has been of air flights. So glad I ended up not booking dh through Washington, Newark or NY. Sure there would be delays or cancellations that way. He has a 49 minute lay over in Detroit. Gets into Rochester about 5pm.
Dh is happy that maybe he'll miss the germs in ds's household.
Must be 'our' week for knowing 'celebrities'. First was the winner of the Humana PGA in LaQuinta, CA Sunday. His grandparents were our neighbors for a number of years and DS-R has golfed with him from time to time. (Patrick Reed -for any golf buffs). We don't usually watch but knew he was playing well and actually set new records for that golf course. The 2nd one -we learned last night that Renee Flemming, who went to school and sang with our 2 older ones is singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. So that's our claim to fame this year.
Well, best get ready to leave. Have to remind dh to check the oil in the car too.

Speaking of decluttering, Harriet -that's my plan for our bedroom while dh is gone. DD and I are trying to get GD15's room cleaned up/out. (What a mess!) So we're each picking up & putting away 10 items each/each day. It's beginning to come together. She'd like it to be at least presentable if someone happens to open that door -it's on the way to the powder room. Then on to my room -have to take that one spot at a time!

My mom and brother are socked in with the snow. Mom said she has never seen this kind of snow storm. Wish I was there but glad I'm not traveling today....
