Good morning, villagers ~
Not sure if I will stay home again today or not. Compared to yesterday, the wind won't be blowing as hard by this afternoon and it won't be quite as cold as yesterday. However, it will be even nicer tomorrow, and my errands are not so critical that they can't wait another day. I'll wait until after lunch and see how things look then.
Last night I watched the recording of the Grammys. Wow, I'm glad I didn't watch the whole 3 hours & 45 minutes as it was happening. I fast-forwarded through everything except most of the performances and a few of the awards, saw the whole thing in under an hour.
Took about the same amount of time to watch the red carpet part. Not as many interesting outfits as I'd hoped. Looking forward to the Oscars red carpet, which this time will be more interesting than the awards show itself because I think I've only seen 1 or 2 of the nominated films.

Re: Tuesday
15 degrees and light snow here this morning. I would really love to see a decent snow - we've had so much cold weather it's disappointing not to have a snow. Disappointing this year because I really can stay in if I want to and don't have to worry about work - although a snowfall early in tax season was never that big a deal, I guess. Street and sidewalk are covered, altho not much on the grass yet.
Funny, I just noticed a huge flock of birds across the street on the roof and in the yard...they seem alarmed about the snow.
I slept well enough (used a app on my iPad to play some timed white noise) and I was able to get up at 7. No edging toward Elvis time for me!
Today I can stay in for the day and I have hopes of getting things done. Per Harriet's instructions I have a "top five" li&t going for temple biz to work toward completion.

Re: Tuesday
Well, everything is cancelled today -- including classes at the big U. That hasn't happened since 1978, apparently!! Dh, ever the taskmaster, thinks it is silly, of course.
It doesn't affect his day at all; he doesn't teach on Tuesdays and research goes on. He is making his grad students come in for meetings, etc. However, at 8 a.m., the temp was -14 with a windchill of -30. I believe the big U got flack for not cancelling classes a couple weeks ago when temps were also extremely cold - imho that that is a major factor in cancelling classes today -- although, it is also very cold and some students need to walk long distances between classes, not to mention the fact that some students are from warmer climes and may not be used to dressing appropriately for such extreme temps.
Done:
x breakfast
x clean diaper on baby J
x bottle for baby J
x figured out warm clothes and dressed baby J (I finally found a pair of socks in the diaper bag; also, they seem to not use onesies under PJs and clothes, which I did pretty religiously. Maybe that is just an old-fashioned technique.)
x 2nd diaper for baby J
x drove w/ dh (and baby J) to baby J's day care; it appears to be closed. Called day care center twice, called the church (not ours - one close to our home) once. No answer. No message on voice mail or web site letting us know they are closed. . . or not. There are a few cars in the parking lot.
x drinking 2nd cup of tea
Dd15 has a friend here. Dd18 is at friend's house where she slept over. I was going to spend this day doing a LOT of errands. I guess I'll try to do as many as I can with baby J in tow. . . . Again, I'm not sure why I even plan my days ahead of time.
Baby J fell asleep in the car. She is still sleeping in her car seat in her room. . .
Off to let the dogs back in and work on the a.m. routine. Showering first! I'll ask dd15 to keep an ear out for baby J.

Re: Tuesday
The village is so quiet this morning!
I have a dinner to attend tonight at the JCC - hoping they cancel or at least there's enough snow for me to justify cancelling.
This round:
-get soup going
-one of my five temple tasks
-pull out dh's shoes in our closet and set up the new shoe rack

Re: Tuesday
And schools here just announced they are closing down 2 hours early for each school. They can't say a certain hour because the buses go from school to school for each bell schedule. (Part of my concern over super early schedules for teens, who are battling sleep needs.)
Dd34 learned last night that the boys' school and her college would not open today.
Of course everyone realizes the big problem will be tomorrow morning and ice, so we all might as well settle in. Forecasters already talking about the next morning and wondering.
helia, so interesting that you don't think the university has done this since 1978. I think -30 windchill is about time, for sure.
I've made the obligatory milk and toilet tissue run. (regional joke with some truth to it - "everybody here goes to grocery to celebrate bad weather"). I know there will be snow of course, but I picked up extra vanilla and sugar just in case there's a chance of snow...cream.
Also got gas in the car. Warm water to Sammie.
Desk Day for our house done imperfectly but I'll have mail to PO today on the school run, including a bday card early, just in case we don't leave the house again for a while.
Now dd has emailed that her school is going to handle this by just not going to 4th period. In a way I hate that for her because that is biology, possibly her toughest course, and I was hoping she'd have time with that teacher before time out of school.

Re: Tuesday
Good Morning!
I have been going almost non-stop since I woke up. Not trying to do my normal schedule, but just keeping busy. This is not good for me because I can easily hyper focus on cleaning the baseboards with a toothbrush while the house is chaos. That's the reason I need SHE cards. Doing the things that matter.....first.
LO is still home from school. He got sick to his stomach during the night so we kept him home. He has eaten this morning with no problems so I'm hopefully this will be the last day of it.
DH has been working long hours at MPB while it is closed due to freezing weather. He is modifying the plumbing, moving some solenoids, replacing some check valves and something else. I don't know how to do any of those things so I just nod my head and issue encouraging words when DH tell me what he is working on.
Yesterday & this morning I have been removing items from laundry room cabinets, cleaning them, marking date on items and updating the inventory spreadsheet before returning everything in an organized manner. Then I take a picture of it.
sometimes I am waaay tooo hyperfocused......

Re: Tuesday
Wow, quiet village. Everybody trying to keep warm I guess. It was chillier than normal here but has warmed up. 82°. Wish I could send some warm breezes around.
Busy morning with not much to show for it. I did get a load of work clothes washed and out drying.
Getting ready to take my bookkeeping to CPA. Had to copy some sheets to leave here at the house in case audits happen before the taxes are back. Did one more job of proofreading and found an $8,000+ mistake that I fixed.
So glad I found that before the CPA did. Dealt with a company guy - told him we usually don't have to jump through hoops like this just to hire out some work. There's not much work but still it's hard to get people to respond...
Kathryn, wonder if you have any idea why Auckland is so expensive? I'd love to see the glass necklace. I have a very beautiful Murano Glass starfish keychain which broke yesterday. The loop for the chain was made of the glass also and it cracked off. Going to see if DH can grind what's left off and drill a hole for the chain. It's too pretty to throw away.
May call the CPA and if he's there take my life-in-a-folder to him.

Tweaking my BWP for this yr. We've had some changes here. I am enjoying u tube music that I missed glad I can hear some of the new stuff on it! I caught some of the grammy performances that I wanted to see as well while on the ex. Bike.
Playing with my e reader it is fun to find free books may never read them but at least it is a great way to learn how to use it!

Re: Tuesday
I didn't get up (the 2nd time) until 7:45 then had to get ready to go to church for a meeting. Went to see dsisil after that. So, just got home. Did something to my back -probably while I was ripping sheets for bandages (for the Congo) at church. Really pulled something so am going to rest now for a bit.
Been waiting for health insurance bill to come -according to ITT benefits it was mailed up home on Jan 10th. Will give it 1 more day and then I'll find out where to send a payment.
There is a possibility of a job for dsonil. He will meet with a person on Thursday. Hope this is the coming together that we've waited for. And right up dsonil's 'alley'. Would be so pleasing to us all if he can get a job. Unemployment ended last month -he's been unemployed since June 4th of 2012.
