After all that running around yesterday, I have a fairly open day today! However, I do want to leave for tutoring in about 50 minutes. .
Someone here mentioned that the super bowl game would be on our local fox station. Dh reported that the only station our TV seemed to get was PBS. It is 20 years old, located in the corner of our play room, and we don't watch TV anyway. . .It should be getting more than 1 station though.
Last night was busy but good. I was out of the house from a little before 2 until almost 10:30pm, with an hour at home during which time I put away groceries. Timeline for last night was: errands: 2-4. Then, home to put away groceries, prep baby gift, etc; Hebrew 5:05 - 6:10, drove to baby shower location, baby shower 6:45 - 8:30 (I left late), book club 8:45 - 10:15 (I got there late and left a late while c hatting with S2). . .
Kathryn, I can see MIlford Sound, one of the most beautiful places in NZ - imho!! We spent a few days nearby in Te Anau, visited Milford Sound, poked around a bit,walked a bit of the Milford Track. We did an overnight cruise of Doubtful Sound right next door. Less popular and less touristy. That area of NZ is just absolutely gorgeous! I hope you enjoyed it!
I'm off to get ready -- tutoring 9 - 10:30, a stop by the groc. store for the few items I couldn't get yesterday. Then, I'm on my own time until I bring some fruit to the synchro meet at the high school at 4:30. Dd15 has told us not to attend this meet either as the routines are still quite rough.
I am up and sliding back into normal time slot schedule. It feels good to be back to "normal".
LO is at school - it is misting freezing rain now so I don't know if they will be able to stay in school all day. The county road crew really worked hard yesterday to get the roads cleaned off. I couldn't figure out why our mail box was covered in mud this morning. DH explained it happened yesterday when the country came through with their road graders tossing the (dirty) snow to the side of the road.
I had a business tech class scheduled this morning but I'm going to skip it. I don't want to drive the 80 miles (round trip) on roads that are receiving freezing rain. I have an all day Master Gardener class scheduled tomorrow. Not sure if it will be cancelled or not. We shall see....
Not sure what I'll plan for today. It's very surreal for me to not have things I have to do on any particular day. Tomorrow we have a family get-together for dbil's birthday and Thursday have another for a dfriend's b'day -at Cracker Barrel. Both are a surprise.
Have been thinking about asking DS-A if they'd like to keep our van while they're here at Disney. Means dd and I would both have to drive a couple of times, but at least they'd have transportation if they want to go off property. I can get by for 10 days without it by taking dd to work probably only one morning.
I've been awake for a long time, just haven't accomplished anything except personal stuff and making the bed. I can't NOT make the bed. DD laughs at me because she rarely has time to make it and that's the first thing I do. Good habit to get into says I -that and a clean sink.
Will probably go over to dsisil's later -AFTER the fog clears. Mighty foggy today and later than usual.
Yesterday the weather forecaster's were saying that for the first time, in a long time, the entire state would be getting snow, at the same time. It was suppose to start after midnight. All evening across the bottom of the TV they were running cancellations, school and other things. Ours was not listed. It had just barely started when dh went to work this morning. I noticed on FB that dd1 was saying she woke up with a monster headache and the snow day, was a blessing to her. I checked and sure enough they had cancelled school. I hope we get what is predicted because our superintendent is very stingy with snow days. He will not start 2 hours late and he will not release early. If he errs on the side of caution for nothing, then next time he won't cancel.
Yesterday I bought groceries and ran errands in the morning. Dd2 was off and she also bought groceries, in case of a school cancellation. Since she just teaches part time (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday am) she just knew that they wouldn't have a snow day to her advantage. Surprise.
Yesterday afternoon dd2 and I spent 3 1/2 hours delivering items that had been painted at her shop and never picked up. We still have a bunch to go and some of it is to area towns. It amazes us that people would take the time to paint something, pay for it and then never return to pick it up. We just left it on the doorstep and didn't bother to knock or ring a doorbell. We went to a house that was way out in the country. It was 7 plus miles off the highway and 2 miles of it was a dirt road. As dd2 was taking it up on the porch, a big yellow dog ran around the house. Then a great big dog, that looked like Cujo, ran around the house. She turned around and saw them and calmly walked back to the car. I was about to go into panic mode about what to do if they attacked her. I had nothing to fight them off with. Luckily it did not come to that. As she backed out of the driveway, those 2 dogs were right in front of us, like they were pushing us out of the driveway. Yikes!
Yesterday I was able to pick up a library book that I had requested in Nov. I would love to start reading it, but my house needs cleaned and lots of laundry done, so the book will have to wait.
Trash day here that is at the curb.
Cold weather temps. This week so I need to adjust the lights, and put up a nail to stabilize the power cord mid morning x done; before granny duty begins later on.

I saw on the weather ch. How they were asking great questions of who ever was in charge of the roads to explain when & how they do that. I thought it was great.

I meant to add that our area so seldom has school cancelled, that I witnessed many people drive up to let their kids out and then realize there was no school. When I went out to get my mail, I noticed they had a yellow sign on the sidewalk. I can't see it from my kitchen window or front door, so I don't know when they put it there. Evidently, many people assumed that there would be school, from previous snow situations. Also, cancelling was not a mistake, it has started snowing heavily and is piling up. Dh took his work car to work that has front wheel drive and gets around well. I wish he would have taken the SUV that has 4 wheel drive. He didn't take it because he thought the weathermen had missed our forecast, again.
Haven't heard from either dd, but I am sure they are enjoying a snow day. Dd2 was glad the boys are with their dad, in case of a snow day. They would insist on playing in the snow, so of course, the 2 little girls would have had to, also.
My timeline has included setting 2 bags of donations out for the Kidney Foundation people. Oddly, no sooner had I confirmed this last evening over the phone with the KF volunteer (their reminder calls have always come from private homes), than another call came in from AKF Pickup Svc (American (?) Kidney Fund, this lady said), asking for the same thing for their truck coming a week from now. I told her this frankly, and she said they are two entities working for the same charity, and maybe they'd catch us next time. Hmmm......
Another item is pushing the timeline back - a call that's not being returned regarding my ddad's taxes. Sigh.
Important today is extra spiffiness in the kitchen, for I have Called the Man. He'll be here tomorrow, pulling my washing machine out and showing me how dirty my floors really are, I'm sure. Ooooooh, I hope, hope, hope it's "just a belt" as HRH thinks.
Dee, I edited my response to you in PaperTamers about the planner. It's super cheap at less than $4 now on amazon.
lucylee, I use the small post-it notes often on my cards, for notes to remember. If I don't have them, I just cut up a regular 3x3 one. Sometimes I use the 3x3's sticky portion only, when I want to leave a note on for a while and don't want any free area flapping. I can just cut that away and it will fit exactly along the edge of a 3x5 card and stay a long time with no problem.
Best wishes to so many with iffy weather right now. OKay, be careful. Lilac, wow, I can just imagine the difficulties if families didn't understand the closings until the last minute. I'm sure the very negative critiques of Atlanta's decisions weigh heavily on the minds of school decision-makers lately. We will not have a repeal from our rain and fog until Thursday, but it will be short-lived and downpour is expected by Saturday.
HRH has a minor procedure Friday at the 10-minutes away small hospital and should be home within a few hours. Dd and I will need to drop him off, then get her to school, then I'll go back to hang out there with him. I should be able to finish up some reading there - I have 3 books going, which is unusual for me. I'll probably finish Grain Brain, since that one points out JAMA articles and studies that contradict much doctors have insisted to me in the past, and it will de-intimidate me in those surroundings.
Ooooooh, I hope, hope, hope it's "just a belt" as HRH thinks.
