Hello! We have bright sun here today also, temp at 74*. There are no clouds in the sky, although it seems a bit hazy in the distance.
Proactive/Prepared....hmm...we keep a small stock of batteries handy and a couple of flashlights and candles. I get a case of bottled water the beginning of summer and another if that is used up before hurricane season ends, and we always have ice in the ice maker.
We have the paperwork filled out and ready for dh's first P.T. appointment tomorrow. We picked up a RX refill and a few groceries. Payday is tomorrow, so we'll do a major grocery run tomorrow or Thurs. I have gathered enough laundry for one load, but I like to do the sheets and towels separate from clothes, so I'll wait a few more days for that.
I'm glad to hear that Sadie and Lynlee are progressing with p.t. and yoga sessions.
BookSaver, I'm glad the brownout wasn't any worse and didn't last too long. Years ago we used to have them here, but I think the power company must have done some local work and we haven't had them for a while. Very unfortunate when it affects heating!
Harmony, your chair sounds nice; maybe you could make a seat cushion to match! Yes, the neighbor we share the tree with is the same. It is worrisome when I hear the yelling and banging. I don't let the dogs out then because they run right to the fence and bark. Don't want to upset him any more than he would be. I wondered if there was some help program his mother could have gotten for him before he reached 18 yrs.
I need to put some papers in dh's medical book; now would be a good time to get that done.
**Elizabeth --- that is good news! That must have sounded quite scary for whatever cats were involved! So glad nothing was broken.
**Now I see Kathryn has posted too, so I'll cuop.

Re: Proactive and Prepared Tuesday
back again.
asking for prayers for our oldest dson36. called DH to take him to doctor but he is at hospital with possible heart issue.
Was refused at our local dr office because he has the obamacare ins. like DH and the girls at the desk said they had taken other patients with that ins and were not paid.
Called insurance place and I am angry! Took this insurance for DH and recommended it to dson because our doctor was listed as a provider on their website and he still is listed. But insurance company said their plans have been updated and when the person on the phone put our zip code in there is not a single doctor from out town. The website lists 8 from our town but it isn't true. I told company this is nothing more than bait and switch. What is the sense of having a policy and then you can't use it?
So anyway will have to figure out who to complain to.
Harmony, most of the time I hate the sling too, I told DH I'm going to burn it when I'm out of it, I won't, will save it for awhile. But after I've been out of it and "worked" my shoulder, it feels good to rest it in the sling.

(((Sadie)))) That is just soooo wrong! Shame on that insurance company. Prayers for your DSon.
I've spent most of the day following hourly schedule. It feels good to be making progress in the backlog of cards.
I went to the store with a long list and ended up filling the back of my vehicle up with groceries so the pantry is well stocked again.
I wanted to make chicken soup so I bought a whole chicken. I almost backed out when I saw the price for the chicken was $8.46. Really? How can an uncooked chicken be $8 when they sell whole roasted chickens for under $5? ANYway I made a huge pot of chicken, rice & vegetable soup using the "if it sounds good then toss it in" type of recipe. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but it smells & taste wonderful.
Everything is ready for LO Valentine party tomorrow. All valentine cards have been prepared (it took him a couple hours to write them). LO also prepared a birthday card to send to his 1/2 brother (8 years old). Tomorrow I'll mail a box of valentine cards and treats to DGS7, DGD3 and DGD2. Thursday we are meeting the older DGS's and taking them out to eat for their Valentine.
When I went to vote today, I was asked if I would be interested in working the elections (voting sites). I admire the people who are doing it now so I agreed to look into it. Not sure how that will turn out, but I'm willing to give it a try.
Tonight basketball game is Senior night at LO school. We will go and stay until LO bath/bedtime.
Cards due today = 28
# Cards completed = 108
% Cards completed = 79%

Re: Proactive and Prepared Tuesday
((Sadie)) it sounds like that insurance company has been extremely dishonest, taking payments from people they don't even serve. I hope your oldest ds starts feeling better. That's so nice you have a new stove.
OKay, HRH suggests the possibility that these are bulk-roasted chickens sent to grocery stores where they are only kept warm under lamps. If that's the case, the uncooked chickens requiring continuous refrigeration might actually be more expensive for the store to sell. Or, this could be a loss-leader at the grocery, a price that only lasts a short time?
We had a window of clear weather in between bouts here. So I did get to let the chickens see sunlight a while to break up their monotony, and got two garbage bags out to trash cans at the road. I have no idea that trash will be picked up as normal, but if that schedule does have a chance, I'm glad to go along with it. And if we're snowbound a while, better the garbage be in cans than in my kitchen. We finished the salmon tonight with salads.
Weather models keep changing. Dd34 and I thought for days her area would catch a break this time and it would be ours with more problems. Now it looks like her house is right in the middle of the band they show for ice/outages risk. Also worried about my dfil Joe, who is not feeling well at all right at this moment of poor travel conditions.
B and N sent me an email that a book I'd bought on their bestseller discount plan has climbed in their rankings and maybe I want to buy more. I didn't know they did that - wow, everybody keeps records on you now. Grain Brain is now their number 4 seller they say. I had that book with me at hospital waiting on HRH, and chatted with a couple nurses and one young dr (not ours) about it. They said my enthusiasm was nothing compared to another nurse on a different shift who has been shaking the book in their faces and saying "read this, read this". LOL

Re: Proactive and Prepared Tuesday
Walked out the door at 8:30 a.m. today. Walked back in finally at 9:50 p.m. I had 1.5 hours at home around lunch, another hour in the afternoon, during which time I spent 40 minutes digging my car out of a snowbank at the end of our driveway, and another half hour for dinner. I do not need to do uniform returns tomorrow, thank goodness. All but 8 have been returned (out of 138 ) and the band director will take care of the last few. I left the notebook with him.
tomorrow, I do have a meeting at 9:30 a.m. and then at 12:30, I'm meeting ds for coffee (me) and lunch(him). That is it for out of the house commitments tomorrow. I think these hours out of the house every day are giving me a taste of why I don't want to work full time with kids still at home. . .When would I have time to cook or clean? My haircut on Thursday has been cancelled, as has my meeting with my mentoree, so it seems. . . That helps a lot too!!
Dfriend B called me today but I was too tired to call her back. Too much to do this week with travel plans, etc. Too tired right now so I won't think about what I need to do. I'm enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, my last points for the day. If I revive a bit, I might clean up the kitchen. I've put garbage at the curb and girls are working on recycling which I'll put at the curb soon. It is already 10:35, though.

I think one of the things that also bugs me about Wellington is the wind. It is relentless. And it blew my hat off while walking down the street so now my hat has tire marks over it. I'll wait until I'm home to clean it.
Wind really wears me down quickly, both being in it and listening to it through closed windows. I love it in small doses but the continual roar wears me dow.
We had lunch with dh and former client. Then ds and I worked on finding him a place to stay (1 night in one hostel, 3 in another) and then he took a taxi from a nearby hotel to the car rental place and picked up a rental. He beat me home because I stopped for a rest along the way, plus I'm moving really slowly.
When dh is ready to leave the office, we'll meet him at a nearby parking lot and drive to suburb for dinner at a local burger chain. Then we can either drop dh at work or come back here. Ds goes out later to get TGF.

Re: Proactive and Prepared Tuesday
I'm glad you caught your hat Kathryn. Sorry about the tyre marks. Wow- I'm so glad you didn't slip over the edge during that hike. Hope the rest of your stay there is less eventful. Pity about the b&b. I thought much more was expected of those places.
Hoping your bs has stopped bouncing around Nancy. I'm surprised about your snow chickens.
I almost started a thread last night, but really had to rush to try and get my day wound up. Then had trouble sleeping but that's another story.
What I did find out about Feb 11 was some US weather records. -64f in Montania in late 1890s. 11"? snow in NYC I forget when. So your current icy blast is one of those things I guess. Hope you are all safe.
my day.
lights out take 2 - 12.45am - then lots of wakenings.
alarm went off at 7. I was already awake and dreading it.
got myself back to tai chi - otd 8.10 for 8.30 start. classes started for the year last week but I missed it.
woohoo. teacher decided to teach and talk through the moves. Well some of them. There are now 5 people new to class this year. Morning tea at coffee shop with one who started same day as me. She has been diligently learning from Dr Lam's dvds (tai chi for arthritus) daily though, and has great improvement in her movement she says. RA in her case.
home.
had a nap this afternoon.
Cleared away all outstanding washing at last. Why was that so hard?
My day will be winding down, and you aren't here in tomorrow yet. This is odd. Usual though. Kathryn will have already eaten most likely. At least there is someone this side of the time line with me.

Re: Proactive and Prepared Tuesday
Hi everyone! It is late (2 am) where I am, but I wanted to update my progress. I have been meaning to organize my job search stuff into a spreadsheet so I can keep track of it easier, and I have completed it. I looked through the yellow pages (online) for engineering firms and software firms in my area and have added 100+ more companies that I can look into. Not all of them are likely to have suitable openings (or any for that matter), but it widens my pool considerably. Tomorrow (well, later today), I will add govt offices, govt contractors, and govt software firms to my list.
For Girls' Night Out, DD11 wanted to eat Chinese food at my house, so we did take out. Then we played ball for a little while, then a computer game. The game is a hidden picture type of game. We played one a while back and had fun. She spilled a purple drink on my white tablecloth, but we put it in the wash and it appears to have no stains.
After she left, I did some mass cooking. The pot roast has finished and has been divvied up and put away. The crockpot is full of cube steak. All dishes are in the dishwasher, but there is still some cleanup to be done. Cooking the gravy for the cube steak set off the fire alarm!
I still need to do cat care, me care, and take trash to the curb. Tomorrow, I have two meetings, one at school and the other for the animal org. I need to type up and send the minutes for the latter.
Good night!
