I was home from meeting with 2 friends from moms group about 15 minutes ago, have checked email, inhaled some lunch. I need to leave in 7 minutes to meet ds. Will be home by 2:30, with some luck. Then, I can work on the house and travels, etc.

Dee: Use the rolling walker. Yesterday I was using my two walking sticks almost all the time (even in the city on the flat.) I find the action of pushing off with them (I'm using them like nordic walking poles on the flat) helps take the stress off the knee when pushing off to take a step and they take some strain off on the landing when going downhill/steps and help lift me up when going upstairs/hill. I can walk faster and more confidently with them. But I was still really sore so the 1/3 mile walk downhill to the house from the bus yesterday took ages.
So far this morning I just feel a little sore but goodness knows what will happen when I actually get walking.
No hot water here this morning. Thankfully, for me it was a sponge bath day. Dh had to shower in cold. It is an instant hot water heater so I tried turning off the master control in the upstairs bathroom and turning it on again. No luck. There is hot in the kitchen so not sure what else to try and it was before 7 so didn't bother waking the host to find out.
Sigh....
I just want to go home. Everything is too difficult and feels like an obstacle to overcome. Today is sunny but it isn't helping my mood any.
((Kathryn)) The issues you've been trying to overcome - no hot water, lack of cleanliness, being shooed away from comfortable areas in your accommodations, or even shooed outside - that's not normal, and anyone would feel as you do, so live and learn. Also, I want you to know I chose my words carefully, since I am proud of you for getting out there and learning. Btw, next time you describe a fall to us, could you kinda eeeaaase into it, please. None of this "even before I fell" stuff. We have to grab our chairs and everything.
Dee, I guess Kathryn knows what she's talking about, but I will say that I can't imagine you needing anything at all for walking. Good job to dd for thinking outside the car.
Well, Twins' although I have always heard the word "sticking" as well, I must say just thinking about how it would have amused Indiana to hear you say that, made me smile and want to claim "laying". Makes me think of lucylee. Her state was declared in emergency yesterday, and today my state has joined that distinction. I hope she didn't have to carry anyone anyplace today.
Someone had a sinus headache yesterday. Well, raising my hand - yipes why does snow make me have sinus trouble. It started before the white stuff was causing reflective light, I think. So how does it do that?
Snow is laying here. The lowest estimate, supposedly, is 5 inches. But that was a few minutes ago, so if the last few days are examples, that estimate has already changed. It's supposed to be sleet later, then snow again, so I don't know if they mean minimum of 5 inches now and more later or if that's the whole of expectations. Another hope would be that since there is no mention of freezing rain right now, maybe we won't have that problem, but again, changeable.
Where Harmony's family lives near-ish to me, I believe a greater chance of power outages is probable - their precipitation is "ice pellets" right now, according to the tv weather guy. Where my dd34 lives, the snowfall is lighter but tonight they have freezing rain in wind between 15 and 25 mph, so I see how they could lose electricity for sure.
Dd is ready to make some snow cream. They say my dfil Joe did eat some snow cream, but is feeling so badly he doesn't want anything else. At least that was a little lighthearted moment.
Was Cowinkie still going to be visiting her mother now, or is she on her way home. Storm is headed her mother's way.
(((Kathryn))) I have just cringed at the issues you are dealing with. Then I hear about the conditions in Sochi and it really makes me cringe. When I heard that they don't want you washing your face in their water. Seriously, what is in the water? I can't imagine travelling that far, spending a lot of money and being miserable.

Got turned down by one for which I thought he was even over-qualified; maybe that was the point, at least I can tell myself that. It was for Freshmen and sophomores w/ no or little experience. He's had 2 internships already and is not technically a freshman or a sophomore. His favorite option told him in his interview that they wouldn't get back to him for 4-6 weeks. ..They could expedite the process if he needs to know sooner for another company. Seems like a long time but what do I know.

x called dh; scanned dd15's updated passport to travel agent taking care of the band trip to France in less than 2 months.
Checked weather web site -- we're supposed to get up to 50 next week! Crazy. As dh commented before he left on his current travels, we will probably have some flooding this spring after all the snow we've had.

Hens are on recess, the hen door to the coop was open during our cold snap and mine did fine with heat lamp. There IS such a thing as snow allergies.
Got stuff for chicks rounded up from shop storage area yeasterday when dgd was here to "help".
Met TGF. She was brushing her teeth in the washroom when our host barged in to figure out the no hot water issue! Talk about getting over an awkward moment by having an even more awkward moment! BTW she's really, really, nice. And she laughs at my jokes. Great start.
We are heading out for the day. I spent the morning writing the arrival in Sydney travelogue and then the walking around Sydney travelogues. The first has been sent but now I can't get through to send the other.

Dh had his first PT evaluation and session this afternoon. He did good, but is tired. We were going to do a grocery run at W-M, but decided to come home instead of mucking about in the rain.
Didn't properly cuop, but did see that Kathryn is having a rough time. I am sorry...it's no fun to be that far away from home and that much inconvenienced.
And to Sadie, from yesterday...I'm glad your ds is all right. I hope you can get the insurance straightened out.

Kathryn the weather report for where I am says that it will be -1 C on Thursday and Friday. The roads are that white-with-salt look and there are marvelous long icicles hanging on the south side of some buildings. I haven't needed a hat or gloves for 2 days. AND we won the Canada/US Women's Hockey game at Sochi this morning! Woo hoo! Canada is doing extremely well at the games.
Dishes never stop.

Thanks for those wise words, Kathryn. I probably will use that walker this weekend. Hate to even think I need it, but I even used a cane today as I kept feeling like my leg would give out. Don't need that at Disney. AND nice thing is there's a carry basket under the seat and of course the seat itself that I can sit any time I choose. Did finally see a few at Disney -mostly wheelchairs and scooters. Know all the dks and dgks would feel better about it.
DD did call guest services. They suggested that ddil go first to one of the first aid stations. If they had anything it would be free. If they did not, then the dks could ask at their hotel desk. The hotels have an agreement with pharmacies that anything they order will be delivered at a $7.50 charge. Sure a lot cheaper than my driving there. AND while dd was at it, she talked with them (because she'd heard from one her friends who works there) that they love to do special things for people. She told them the story of ds/ddil losing DZoe in 2012 and how they've worked at fund raising for 'healthy kids' since then. Seems they love doing special things for special people. When they return to their hotel room there should be a bouquet of balloons and special gifts awaiting them. KNow they'll be surprised and dgs18mos will love the balloons.
Think dinner is about ready. Better go check and start taking my evening meds. BBL
Yes, it's been pouring, thundering, lightening here too, Sunny. Had texted ddil that the storm was coming and they might want to think of getting to cover pretty soon. That was well over an hour ago. She was glad to know in advance that something was coming. Perhaps they could get back to where their hotel is before the rain started.
