Do you have ways you win over certain jobs? Guess my best way to a win-win is to follow my routines -so many are just plain ingrained. Thank goodness! For instance I can't NOT make our bed. That's always a feeling of accomplishment & a good start. Although this morning I stripped it because dh's bedding was all down to the floor at the foot of the bed. Figured it was time. But it will be made before the morning is out.

Gotta have a little bragging. All heads turned when ds28 walked in, wearing his dress uniform, followed by his entire shift in their dress uniforms too, out of respect for ds' step-grandfather, a former volunteer firefighter and fundraiser at their city's oldest firehouse. HRH said he'd never seen ds look better (new captain's uniform).

Certainly glad you "bragged", Harriet. Gave me a good start to the morning. It's always so awesome to see those firefighters in uniform show up at this type of occasion. They're just great men. I've experienced it more than once and could feel the feelings. Blessings to you and your entire family. Hoping you get some respite soon.

Dh didn't go walk -thought he did, but guess it was raining lightly. He's already been to the garage with our car. Needs a new radiator -no surprise. Taking it up tonight & leaving it. Just happened to think dh can probably take dd to school in the morning & at least have a car for the day. He has a trustee's meeting at 2. Guess I'll 'hang up' and send a text to dd to see if that will work.

Schools are all closed up home -wonder how many that makes this school year. Blizzard warning. Been checking the web cams and where we live it's snowing pretty good north of there not so much -yet. But it's starting. See pictures of the city are near whiteouts already.

I'm wondering if Dee is simultaneously posting a Wednesday thread. . .[and apparently, she was!]

There is so much wisdom shared here daily by all of you in all areas of life - from the practical nitty gritty details of taking care of our homes, families, and schedules to social matters dealing with family and friends to supporting each other through hard times to health matters, financial matters, etc. You are a wonderfully wise group of women!!

School is cancelled here. Dh is off to work and dgirls are still sleeping. I'm drinking tea and have taken care of some emails. I may be meeting with ds or with mentoree student today. State of the roads (and our driveway) will figure into that decision.

Thinking of Harriet and HRH and the entire family. Yes, it made me feel proud of ds, whom I've never met, to hear of his entrance with fellow firefighters and his smart appearance.

Thanks, Helia. Forgot to look back to see if anyone else had posted today's start. So, keep that title for next Wednesday. By the time I looked you must have been moving it.

Had breakfast now and the sheets are in the dryer. Dh is here to help me put the fitted sheet on -yay! Finally after xxxx years I put a small safety pin on the bottom corner (my side) of the fitted sheet -so we don't have to put it on TWICE! Now I should be able to tell what goes where. Small solution to an aggravating problem. At least now that most sheets have elastic all the way round.

Our forecast originally had possible freezing rain/snow showers for tonight, but it's been taken out of the forecast. Odd that south of us there is a freeze warning, yet here we only have wind advisory. Oh, I see now that low is 27 tonight with very slight possibility of snow flurries.

Today I am taking temple employees out for a nice lunch for staff appreciation week, in the evening I might go to a meeting at the JCC re: next fall trip to Poland and Israel. I don't know whether I want to go or not - very expensive, although dh has gone two or three times to Israel, once with a quick Russia side trip. It's a very long time to be away and it's exhausting!

I am feeling for my fellow introverts Harriet and HRH today. I know they will be worn out physically and emotionally today and I'm hoping they can try for a short nap. Very legitimate after a funeral and perhaps family can run interference ("They are resting right now, can I take a message?")

Lost another of the young smaller hens yesterday sigh but at least it was on trash day. The rest are fine. ( Down to 16 now. )

x checked online bills; I missed cc earlier this month with lots going on. Really h ate that, hate paying interest and late fee to them.

I am not meeting with mentoree; I may meet with ds, depends on the snow, which is still coming down - not too heavily but steadily and with some wind.

Advice to Harriet and HRH Move an air mattress or mattress out to the quilting room and stay there for a while, enjoying the quiet. That way you can ignore the phone easily, won't hear the door and can let Sammy hold down the fort for you while you sleep/read/think.

I'm having a down day after all the busyness yesterday but that's just one day, not weeks and weeks of commotion.

Will go and s2s soon. I have eaten. Sent proof of total income (our salary is no where near enough to afford the apartment) to the rental agent. I'm feeling sick because I've just committed to spending a lot of money. We don't sign the lease until we are approved but at this point we can't back out without losing the deposit of $3100.

Yesterday the agent presented the 3 year lease option (out of the blue, it has never been mentioned) but I'm taking until the day we actually sign the lease to make up my mind. All along I thought I was committing to the 22nd floor for just 12 months and after that I'd be on a month to month lease so I'd just have to tough it out for 1 year if I didn't adjust.

On one hand there may be significant savings if we sign a 3 year lease.

On the other hand, if we aren't suited to apartment living taking extra time to leave the home each time we leave, having to be quiet, having to carry groceries so far even if we use the car, or my fear of heights gets the better of us, we'll need to be able to move on.

On the other hand (let's pretend I have lots of hands), I'm not sure I'll want to move in under 3 years anyway.

On yet another hand, things changed dramatically in under 6 weeks this year (dd is moving here and ds is coming back 4 months early), and last two years (getting hepatitis, then hospital stays and now trying to regain my mobility and control my weight so I can move even more) so what if things change further and I need to stay in an apartment because of health or mobility issues?

On another hand: the point of the move was to make us more mobile so I was able to go where the Spirit blows me, committing for 3 years is exchanging one longer term commitment for another, albeit shorter one, but still a long term one.

On the final hand: what if we can't afford it? To get out of the longer lease will cost us $10K.

So much to worry about.

In a completely unrelated thought: the picture of Helia and I just went by on the screen in the kitchen (we run our photos from the year before as our screen saver) and I was thinking of how her short hair style really suits her active lifestyle.

The snow has just started here. We are on the top edge of it so only supposed to get 2 - 4". Just 50 miles south of us are bracing for 6 - 10"

Kathryn, I know what you mean about the multiple hands. Best example is Tevye in Fiddler on the room, who also had multiple hands. I always think of him when I write that phrase! As with me, it's the uncertainty that wears on you. Makes me feel unsettled when there are so many places that things could end up.

The question of 1 year or 3 was just decided. We missed that this is a smoking building. While we've never smelled smoke while there, and are guaranteed constant breeze, there is a central ventilation system (and no control over it in my unit) and I know just how much smell can move from one unit to another from being in hotel rooms.

Every other inquiry I made was to a non-smoking building (before people would give me the address, they'd point that out to me) so I lost track that this allowed smoking. I remembered to ask about dogs....

Dh didn't want a low apartment partly because of people smoking outside our windows. Jeepers, this could very well be way worse.
