Saturday ... the adventure continues

Good morning (barely). I have just finished the last of my craziness for Friday. I am hoping it does not spill into Saturday, but it may.

Is today a continuation for you?

Hi again! I opened the board today because I felt like talking to someone about today's (or rather Friday's) craziness. It is 12:25 where I am, but I know the one place I can talk to people regardless of the time.

I had good intentions for Friday: get up in time for knit/crochet group, come home and do massive job searching, pick up DD12 for dinner and the Shrek musical. Sounds easy right? Well, my day started maybe 5 minutes before the alarm with a phone call from a friend who is on a business trip out of state. Her daughter is staying with a friend, and going by her own house to take care of the animals. Daughter is not of driving age, daughter reports that an animal is unwell. DFriend calls vet who recommends a visit. DFriend wanted me to take her CHICKEN to the vet! (What animal do I have NO experience with? Yep, birds.) Got appointment for 2pm. Had to dash off to her house while daughter was still there. Why? Because, I am afraid of going into her yard, having been attacked by her flock of chickens and roosters. I obtained the bird and information about its illness, then went late to crochet. (Not too hot or cold in car). Then, on to vet, which took quite a while. Her crop was hugely swollen and they had to suction it out, kind of like a stomach pump for a bird. Chicken to car, then MAD DASH to get the recommended food for the problem (baby bird food) and drop off chicken and crate to garage. (No way was it coming in my house, where the predators have figured out how to open cabinets. Poor bird did not need to be pestered by my cats.) More mad dash to pick up DD12 and eat. Then I had to drop off bird prescriptions, but we did make it to the show on time. It ran late, but I got DD back to the X. She loved it and so did I. Pick up bird and meds and drive to dFriend's house, where I set up an isolation ward in the laundry room and gave the bird two meds and food. Also, left note for the scheduled pet sitter, who is taking over while the daughter is camping this weekend. Successfully avoided getting nailed by the alarm system.

The bad thing is that there is no guarantee that the chicken will survive. The vet wasn't sure, but we are doing what we can. The odd thing is that one of the medicines was something I took when my stomach quit working and I ended up in the hospital. I know for a fact that the bird felt better after getting that stuff pumped out. I talked to her and petted her, but I have no idea if that would make a chicken feel better or worse. At least the medicine I took has the side effect of extreme sleepiness, that will improve things for her.

Like I said, crazy. I need a snack, cat care, me care, and bed.

markets - no there were no bananas that I like.
I did get some asian / harum style pants ( wearing them successfully - they will be great for yoga.), few veg and organic meat. I found out to store ginger in my freezer, to wrap meat in baking paper first before bagging it for the freezer to prevent freezer burn if it going to be there more than 3 wks.)

store - milk and bananas, few other things. Bought my offering for birthday celebration in 2 wks.

Re: the electrical inspector.

The electrician called yesterday, explained that he had put off the final inspection for 5 years and groveled. I explained that an explanation from his secretary was not forthcoming and the reasons why I did not allow the inspector in. I told him all I had done to confirm this was legit since I didn't have his name - called my contractor, googled the inspector's name, called the city - and how none of those things got me an explanation. He will be here with the inspector next Thursday. Dh is home then and will take care of it.

Harmony: according to the inspector, he'd been filing for extensions year after year which seems nuts if all that had to happen is the inspector come out to the house. Certainly, no work has been done on the electrical by him since the original installation. In fact, I don't recall anyone coming back here after the inspection, but then again, to swap out a breaker would take no time at all so maybe I just don't remember because it was so long ago. We also got the floors done just after the furnace so that's the kerfuffle I remember from that time.

I'm up. No exercise for me this morning. Both knees are out. I have no idea why. I did do 11K on Thursday but just walking on the treadmill and packing. Yesterday was a walk to the store. My knees were fine when I got up but within 2 minutes on the treadmill I was hanging on for dear life and trying to find another hand to slow down the treadmill. Slowing down didn't help so I gave up. I'm upset beyond expression. They haven't bothered me one bit for weeks now. I had one week of averaging 7500 per day, then last week was 8100 and this week was 8200 on average but there's two more days to go and walking (and sitting) hurt so I think we can give up that goal.

I'm thinking I'll give up on exercise and start using duct tape instead. (over my mouth.)

DH surprised me with a nexus 7 tablet so I'm quietly sitting at the kitchen table with it while he sleeps

Yesterday was an adventure here, altho not on the magnitude of Elizabeth nursing a chicken back to health!

When I posted yesterday a.m. that I was straightening up for dcleaning lady, I didn't mention that I had already gotten ddogs to vet between 7 and 8 - Macs for teeth cleaning and Moe for an ultrasound of his liver. After things were straightened here I went to Hob Lob w intention of trying to figure out a Purim costume. Did some googling and found some supplies for several options. I got back home, s2s-ed and off to body work at 1:30. After body work it was back to vet to get ddogs (Moe's ultrasound indicated just changes consistent with his age, and they did a needle aspiration to send for testing, and Macs teeth were cleaned and claws trimmed while under, he was woozy with back feet going out from under him.) I met with vet, then ferried them home separately, and caught my breath. Talked to dd, changed for temple and nailed down what I was wearing, then it was off to temple. Two hour long service and evening, despite rabbi reassuring me he would keep it moving then we took a out of town visitor - a descendant of temple founders - and his gf out to dinner with dd and rabbi and dwife.

After consultation with dd, I took her Easter bunny ears (50% off) and a basket with easter grass and matzah so she was the Passover bunny. I wore a couple of multicolored feather boas that were molting with a mardi gras mask with feathers and carried an empty wine bottle. I was a "reject" - King Ahasuerous chose Esther instead of me. Apparently I was too old or tired or something....then I started drinking and ended up at Mardi Gras....anyway, I told the story of how sad it was that I wasn't chosen.

Today I am thankful that dd is on the road to ATL to pick up ds at school. He wanted me to get him yesterday afternoon and I had to put him off because of Purim and taking out the out-of-town guy. She took my car, which leaves me her car so I can get dMacs to PT.

We have a BD party to attend tonight.

Tomorrow dh and I are going to ATL for dim sum with friends. I can't get excited about it - will have to be a quick trip because we are due back at 3:15 at JCC to do Skype interviews. Oy. I will need a rest after the weekend, but I'm thankful I'm not on the road today also.

Am thinking of Harmony trying to keep Mr. Harmony from all his frantic activity. Also glad that surgery went well for LO yesterday. Sadie, I'm hoping all goes well on your trip - it will be a nice break for you and dh.

Time to get myself ready to take Macs to PT.

K in C one time on a Fri. Afternoon the gas co. Came to put in a new meter they were updating their system and I wouldn't let them do it until I called the co. They had to on come back later. He had a letter ID badge and every thing needed that time before he did not and the office was closed.

I have gotten sucked in to on the knitting zone while the house work left undone well you know I finished a hat and co querted a lace stitch so some cards need attn soon as I feed the hens s2s and h. Gets up.

Sigh, someone asked for a typewriter on Freecycle but dd isn't ready to give up Grandma's yet.

Oh, and dd is really sick so now I'm not sure we are going tomorrow.

(She just emailed back that she might be a bit quiet but come anyway.)

Elizabeth - WOW! What a day!

Sadie - what do you think about the new tablet?

I'm in trouble - double guilt from both Great Grandmothers. It appears I didn't tell them that LO was having surgery.....or if I did tell them, they forgot. I really think that I told them weeks ago when it was scheduled, but maybe not. Doesn't really matter - they were both a bit offended that they learned about LO surgery from other family members. Neither of the Great Grandmothers use a computer (no FB) and they continually feel a bit left out with family photos and news-bites. Yesterday at the surgery center I did make a point to txt updates directly to DD (she doesn't receive my FB posts)......however, I failed to call the Great Grandmothers and give them updates by telephone. Of course, DH didn't call them either.....but they don't expect him to....just me. I will try to do better.

LO is doing fantastic this morning. Can't even tell he had anything done yesterday. They said he throat would be sore (from being cauterized) but he hasn't mentioned anything about it. All good.

One thing about packing to move is you keep discovering things you meant to 'fix' but never go around to doing.

Earlier, dh fixed a favourite clock of ours. Apparently, neither of us noticed the great big on-off switch and once that was adjusted, the clock works fine. Another clock isn't working but we can't justify putting in a new mechanism since we have so many clock already. I really need to call the clock maker about the other two mechanical (as opposed to battery operated) clocks. I think I'll not repair the cuckoo, but will repair the grandfather.

Also this week, I had dh start the repair on a bookend that I rescued from my dad's workbench. It had been there waiting repair for goodness knows how long. It is a cow, made at a foundry near where Dad grew up. Mom must have knocked it off a high surface onto a hard surface and it split at the joint, exactly in half, plus a leg broke off at the knee. Can't fix the knee but dh glued it back together with heavy duty glue. Since that held, we are repairing the wooden stand (just need glue) and then will re-nail the cow in place and add nails to the ox (which is the other bookend.) Because of the missing leg, the two animals will face in the same direction, making using them as a set no longer practical but they will work places where we need only one.

A while ago I repainted another set of bookends from my Dad's. So now I have lots and lots of them, which is good since I have lots of shelves in the new place due to the built-in in the office. Looking at the photo, it is obvious that the top two shelves are just for knick-knacks and movies so that's where all our movies (we don't have many, probably only 3' of them) and cds will go. Which will free up space in my childhood bookcase for books. It is small so can go in a hall way or perhaps the spare bedroom (if it is slightly larger than I think it is.)

There's I've fallen into the distraction of placing furniture, once again.

Next challenge, start another load of laundry, try biking and then s2s for the day. Yes, it is noon here.
