Thinking Thursday?

Post by lucylee »

I hope no one minds if I start the day... it is past 1:30 a.m. here.

We had a really nice night, although we had to wait over an hour longer than expected at the pizza place I had suggested. DH was very glad to hear I was over my craving now and could do without it for the foreseeable future. OTOH, dgs was just amazingly well-behaved... eating his Cheerios and having a fine time. (DS & DDIL are probably a bit overly cautious re: his eating "regular" foods, but he is extremely healthy and at least average size, so... whatever. He'll learn to eat pizza soon enough, I am quite sure.)

He STILL is not talking... but ds said today during Sesame Street, they were practicing the sounds: "v... v... v..." and ds was saying them with him, and just as plain as day, dgs said, "violin." (Of course, he refused to repeat it for us.)

We took ddil pizza for her midnight meal at work, and ds reported that dgs was thrilled with the unexpected visit with his mama... then they came back to our house and ds & dh watched a dvd while dgs and I played.

:shock: :shock: :evil: :evil: :cry: :cry:
UNTIL I started trying to load some pictures on the computer and suddenly --
my desktop icons disappeared AGAIN. :shock: :shock: :evil: :evil: :cry: :cry:
WHAT IS UP WITH THAT???
DS & I both googled and searched and could come up with NOTHING... and then, just as mysteriously as they had left, they returned. But the time before, I know there was something simple I did to get it all back to normal. Could not find that link this time. WHY WHY WHY didn't I print it out before? Just stupid, I guess.

In the meantime, I found out I had also lost a bunch of pictures ddil had taken on my camera the last time ds got to do an "important" (to us) show. * sheesh *
Fortunately, ds -- being a recent victim of a computer crash himself -- was very understanding. Said it was no big deal, and I would probably lose something more important before I was through, judging from his experience.
Computers can be so frustrating. :evil: :evil: :evil:

ANYWAY...
Harriet -- I was so glad to see I had mis-read that earlier post and that dd can put all this ISS stuff behind her. That was my experience w/ISS as a teacher, also. ALWAYS created more work for the teacher, we were supposed to know at least a day ahead of time, but often times, an office aide would show up just as the first class was underway, saying, "We need work for Johnny in ISS" -- when no one even expected Johnny to be there that day. :roll: So you put the class on hold, hustle around to find "more than enough work" for Johnny, who likely as not would not do the work anyway... and then when he returned to class, would claim he turned the work in to the ISS teacher, who would never be able to find it.
Oh my goodness, yes, I am glad I am retired.
And students always reported finishing all assignments with a large portion of the day remaining. * sigh *

~~~
So, what am I thinking today...
After a bit of sleep, LOL... I think I will need to
[ ] do laundry
[ ] call dmom
[ ] babysit dgs while ds gives banjo lessons
[ ] exercise
[ ] dust something else (trying to fill in times for various rooms on my 3x5)
Tomorrow is another day.
Good Morning!
LucyLee - How frustrating!
is the show desktop icon checked?
** Right click the desktop
** Select View -> Show Desktop Icon
I'm struggling emotionally still this morning. I would love to lay around and feel sorry for myself, however it wouldn't do any good. Sooooo.....I'm just gonna keep putting one step in front of the other onward.
I'm visiting colorist this morning. Have 3 more minutes to wait until I can wash my hair and be done with this card for another month.
Your hair looks fabulous, OK! ((HUGS))
Oh, computer stuff like that is so frustrating, lucylee. I really don't like losing photos - I hope you didn't lose any this time around.
Today, I'll have the afternoon to do my stuff. I'll have to make choices as I don't think I can do everything I need to do.
8:30 - 12:45-ish Moms group, including travel, set up, clean up - and meeting time
12:45 - around 6:15 Time to: eat lunch, exercise, housework, work on teaching, cook, make DPCs
6:15 - This is the time for which we're aiming for dinner; at least S and R and grad student single mom + dd4 are coming. I haven't heard from the physics profs.
Single mom tends to hang around and chat for long periods after others leave, so I'm just assuming my evening will be taken. She is struggling in many areas, and we're trying to give her more community.
Off to get ready to go.
Helia - what a special gift (community) to share with others.
I was going to write more but the 3 minute "warning" to the next alarm just started. I do like that feature - it starts playing music very softly then gradually gets louder during the 3 minutes. Time to wake LO, snuggle then monitor his AM cards.
good morning from rain blown (un)sunny coast.
we got used to the lack of rain so we are easily inconvenienced - locally here - now hard to pleased. Local flooding is expected.
late last night - sorted mt washmore. No dryer so I'll wait - hoping to get a chance to wash on w/e. though I heard - maybe another wk of rain.
breakfast
pdoc - he helped with letter draft re fence. I just need rewrite it, and make a copy for me. I'll still need a quote / opinion on dog proofing, and expert opinion of fence and flood potental. dang. pity about the rain atm. And hope the other party will cooperate.
lunch
PU someone for support group - in the pouring rain. She is getting better at being ready to come when I get there, though I have to go to her door. She can't look out for me
Support group
walk dog in lighter rain - checked drain head great - 1/2 blocked. a potential problem
towel off dog
checked back corner above drain - coping for the moment. Its if the drain clogs there is a big problem potential
rang dm
dinner
dishes
Prayers please - WA is expecting hundreds of grieving Chinese to come wanting news of their loved ones. The Chinese community in Perth is wanting to be helpful but I fear they will be overwhelmed. The cultural differences might be very great for the Chinese too, and possibly news will be a long time coming. The search teams could possibly do without the distraction of the multitude of press all wanting interviews with someone. Gosh - I watch them on the news too, but x 1000 for them must be time consuming. Hoping / praying that those perceived to be in charge can be helpful to those despairing. I'm not sure that is possible.
The weather does not cooperate. A scientist who studied the southern ocean says currents can move at 100-200k a day. Satelite vision has show hundreds of objects, but no one had picked any up yet. By the time the planes fly there theres only 2hrs search before they need fly the 4000k back.
Praying also for the WA US folk.
good night
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.
LO launched to school bus with a bit of commotion. Both of the local town school buses pick up children on our 1 mile section of road. Our fence line is the end of one school district and the start of the other. Both school buses stop to pick up children on both sides of us along this 1 mile stretch of dual school district. Over the years, the long time bus drivers have worked together so this dual bus run @ the same time is accomplished in a well synchronized manner. However, this morning both bus drivers were substitutes so everything was out of whack. Before we knew that, LO had decided this morning that he was "a big kid" and could wait for the bus by himself. LO was eager for me to return to the house and let him stand in our driveway by himself. I did return to the inside of the yard fence and did a few maintenance type tasks while watching from afar as LO had his first solo bus catching experience. Wouldn't ya know it.....the wrong bus stopped to pick up LO! This was the first time this bus has every stopped at our home. Thankfully it ended well and LO received a good lesson on catching the correct bus.
Next up = CFO cards
I am getting a slow start today. Had a phone call scheduled at 10 a.m. and just kind of hung out here waiting for that. Also made a phone call re my order of Shabbat candles to present to those who have been board members during my last three years as temple president.
Yesterday's errand at Michael's took a long time - I took in a Judaic collage for framing to give to the lady who was president before me. I am so happy with how it is going to look, but it took a very long time. I also spent some time walking around Hob Lob feeling creative.
I wrote a post when I got home yesterday but found it unposted on my computer this morning. :o
I need to get moving today.
PODA:
-pick up meals for dmom at JCC
-usual trip to see dmom, refill meds, sneak out unopened mail, etc.
-drop off box at Goodwill
-be at JCC at 5:30, dressed appropriately for dinner and a program
-routines at home
Sooooooo, without further ado:
-quick s2s and makeup
-make the bed
-refill meds containers
-10 minute laundry room straighten up
-walk the dog boys
Good morning, villagers ~
It took me a good 3 days to recover and get caught up with chores after the 3-day sewing camp. :roll:
Went to the library yesterday afternoon to check on donations and on news there. Summer Reading Program is going to be so much fun. The state-wide theme in Iowa this year is Science. That opens the door for so many interesting activities.
I've been dealing with Emails and FB this morning.
* Long, difficult Email about sewing group situation in reply to complaints from a non-board member. :( Yes, it's still bad. Yes, I'm still trying to give the new people the benefit of the doubt that they are doing what they are doing to try to improve the group, and encourage others to give them a little more time. Not sure why, when ... never mind, I can't change other people's behavior so I'm working on improving my own attitude and trying to maintain courtesy and professionalism.
* Fun Emails and FB messages to set up a lunch date tomorrow with several friends. :D
* Notes back and forth to DH's family about the picnic we were supposed to organize for this summer. Since learning that there are now a niece getting married in mid-August, a great-niece in late June and another great-niece in mid-October, I asked DH's sisters and brothers if they would rather postpone the family reunion picnic to next summer. They all jumped on that idea, I think they were just waiting for someone else to be the 1st to suggest it.
* A DNiece in her 40s put a post on FB this morning that she is pregnant. :shock: Waiting to hear if it's for real or just an early April Fool's joke. Hard to tell with her and her kids, they have been known to hack each other's accounts and post silly things.
Tomorrow I'll be running errands all day all over The Big City, so today I'm not planning to go anywhere.
Must do freezer and pantry inventory for grocery shopping list.
Must put the invoice for property taxes in my purse so I can pay it at the county offices tomorrow.
I borrowed some movies from the library, the series with Tom Selleck starring as sheriff Jesse Stone. I think I've seen the 1st one but not the others. I'll watch 1 or 2 tonight while sewing some more little bags for charity.
Good (very late) morning!
Monday I was having back pain that radiated around to the pelvic area. On Tuesday and Wednesday I took Aleve. Early this morning starting at 1:18 and ending at 5:30, I was up 9 times to go to the bathroom. Each time, it was a lot of fluid. If I slept any during that time, it was minutes. This morning when I told dh, he said he heard me get up 1 time. He suggested that either I had a UTI or kidney infection. I called the drs. office and went in for a UA. I am waiting to hear the results.
Dd2 had dental work done this am at 8. Dgs8 claimed to be sick again, so he stayed here. The other day they seen the Nurse Practitioner, the dr. is back in the office today. The NP only wanted to do an xray, if anything. But she decided to wait. Dd2 would like for them to do a lipid profile on him. I haven't heard anything since she picked dgs8 up.
After they left I went to mail bills and dms pkg. Then I returned the carpet samples. When I got home, I called the drs. office.
Today I signed up for an all day diabetes class that will be held next Wed. It is taught by a certified diabetes instructor and approved by the American Diabetic Association. I called our insurance to verify that they would cover it. They do except for $25. You can bring someone with you for free. Everyone works, so that is hard to do. Dh called about something and I asked him if he would be interested in going. He said he would and can use sick leave to cover it. With him being pre-diabetic, it will be good for him. Plus, I just feel like I need to be re-educated.
Guess I better have some lunch.
