THURSDAY THEORY

Post by DeeClutter »

What is your theory for making it through today? Mine is if I simply putter away, I will certainly accomplish something. As much time as I have to myself, this house should be sparkling. Not.

Finished up my council notes last night and sent them off to the church secretary. Had to keep re-reading. All the notes were sent to me via email & I copied & pasted. However, I kept finding grammar/spelling/date corrections to be done. I was waiting on one last report and had emailed 3 times and finally received it late yesterday. At least that's off my mind -sent it about 8:30pm.

Have to call one of dh's doctors today. They had called last month to see about changing dh's appointment -I thought from the 14th to the 15th (pulmonologist). But I have the 16th marked on my calendar. It's on my laptop so I don't even have the old one crossed off, but eliminated. Drove down yesterday to read the name of the new shop where my hairdresser is, only to find her not there and have to call her on her cell phone to make an appointment. I could have done that before -just hated to call her.

I'm off to do some damage -uh, no not damage, but constructive cleaning.

Good morning, villagers ~
Thanks for opening today's thread, Dee. My theory for today is that being forced to change to a new computer is good for my brain, while learning the Win8.1 OS, and also good for my desk, while making decluttering choices.

Yesterday I concentrated on disassembling the old pc and moving everything on my desk to improve workflow. Also did a bunch of other decluttering around the house to fill the recycle bin.
I had planned to meet a couple friends mid-afternoon but they rescheduled, which was ok because it let me stay on task.

First thing this morning, even before making coffee, I unpacked the new pc tower and started plugging in everything.
This so-called "tower" is tiny -- less than half the size of my older one. The keyboard is smaller, too, which will take a bit of adjustment. However, if I can get used to the smaller keyboard, it will be nice to have that little bit of extra space on the desk.

Now I'm in the midst of downloading and installing software. I'm interested to see what the newest version of OpenOffice will do. My older pc had a problem installing some programs, so for OpenOffice I had to run a portable version from a thumb drive. It worked fine for most tasks, but I had to use an alternate program for a couple things. I'm hoping the newest full version of O_O will have everything I use so I can consolidate and convert all my documents to the same program.

So I'm trying to stay positive that these will all be good changes. And also hoping no one will need me to do anything else today so I can stay focused on getting this all set up.

Today's adventures:
* Continue new computer setup
** Install OpenOffice
** Plug in printer and install driver(s)
** Plug in external hard drive to begin the process of transferring documents to new hard drive
** Research Macafee vs. Norton for antivirus and internet security (Do any of you have a preference?)
* Other
** DPC re insurance
** Supper with friends
** Sewing group files -- inspect the most recent in the hope that they are already in good enough shape to put in the "done" box
** Cuop -- I've only had time to speedread threads and thus I think I've missed a lot of village news.

Need more coffee! :)

Good morning! Thanks for opening us, Dee. Damage vs. constructive cleaning. . . hee hee!!

Looks like you've got a lot of computer type tasks for today, booksaver. Hope all goes well!

It is another beautiful day here! It is already 52* and is forecast to get up to 67*! We are supposed to get rain this afternoon.

Not much on my poda. :) Must dos: groc. store/Me ij ers and cook for th. dinner crew.

My theory for today is that structure and accountability will help keep me on track. Without them, I will fritter away this beautiful day. In fact, this might be a good day to revamp my cards, something that really needs to be done.

I slept in after staying up late w/GG and bday cake. Dh stayed up even later, working until 1:30 a.m. apparently.

I'm off to chug ahead with my a.m. routine.

I can only tell you I had a 'free' one and last fall my laptop completely bit the dust. The 'geek' squad tells me that they had seen a lot of problems with that particular server -escapes me the name, but think it was Ad vantage or something like that. Of course it may well have been a ploy to buy their security site -which I ended up doing. I was ready to do anything to recover all my stuff (which was probably saved elsewhere anyway). Now I backup in a couple of different places.

Feeling (somewhat) proud of myself. Been trying to research hotels along our route so we can make call ahead reservations on our trip north. Ended up finding an app (for that) and for the first time paid for an app ($.99). But it lists all the hotels of any particular chain along any route, gives me phone numbers, price, etc. Will be quite helpful for dd and me when we head north and for dh and I coming south.

Now I've sat at this computer far too long. Time to get busy with that constructive cleaning.

Talley for yesterday:
16 items on li$t
8 done entirely and crossed off
2 are underway
6 undone

Today I have to p/u meals for dmom, visit, and be at a 5:30 meeting. I've already written a long email that will probably be ignored to the bulletin editor. Pretty strong words - I hope he won't resign from doing the bulletin, which is a possibility - but I included that I am personally offended by his vendetta. Oy.

I'm following up Bookie setting up the new computer by downloading the genealogy program to my new computer. Hopefully, I'll get it installed and the database (which is backed up to Dropbox) restored.

PODA for day:
-routines
-mother - p/u food, visit, fill meds et al
-5:30 meeting
-three pressing errands from yesterday, plus one additional
---return at mall
---p/u sunglasses
---p/u framed print at Michaels
---back to bank for temple for issue
-email re: one of yesterday's issues once I get email address from dh
-continue putting together info for other issue carried forward from yesterday, if I have time
-download and install genealogy software

Right now:
-walk ddogs
-s2s
-clear kitchen counters
-refill meds containers
-make the bed

Morning y'all

I'm up and getting ready to climb onto my gazelle. Morning routines are done, though my doggies are still looking for their breakfast. I've been working on picking up my footprints before I go to bed at night and am pleased with the results.

Today will be my "pitching" day. Yesterday I was able to buy some new plastic bins for under my bathroom cabinets. Anything out dated or that hasn't been used in a while is going to find its way into the garbage. It will be a freeing day :D

I'm not worried about my computer as I have a computer guru living in my house. We use Linkx (sp) as our op.system as Sweetie as sensitive information stored and feels this op is more secure than others. Unfortunately I am not very computer smart so I trust him with this kind of stuff.

Ooohhh, Dee that sounds like a good app to have. Care to share?? Sweetie and I are thinking about making a northern run later on this summer headed towards Norma and Mr. Guy...may even travel farther north as we have friends in San Juan Islands, WA who also want us to visit. Could make for a wonderful road trip while it is blazing hot here in the desert.

Had to have my eyes checked yesterday as I knew my vision had changed. Along with new contacts I've discovered I have cataracts. Drats...now I need to make another appointment today with my other eye dr.

Off to get my second cup ...tomorrow I am going on a field trip with 160 8th graders. You can put that in the "I must be crazy" category. I wouldn't even do that when I was receiving full teacher pay

Waving to y'all. Enjoy your day and find something fun to do today.

Twins..
Good for you for speaking up to the bulletin editor. I'm sure you were very diplomatic with your words and said things that needed to be said. You have a knack for words and are a great communicator.

Now you won't have that little voice that runs through your head saying ...I wish I had said/done this.

My theory for today if you give anything 100 days of focused attention it will improve, be it house work, crafts, learning a new pc program or whatever.

I have done the first round today.

My theory is that if I get through today standing, that is a good thing!

Got up a bit late. Exercised. S2s and was downstairs for nine with the bedroom all tidy and the laundry from last week put away. http://shesorganized.net/phpbb/posting. ... =17&t=3685#

The incoming minister called (I had been emailing with him last night and arranged the call) and we chatted for almost 2 hours and arranged for me to take him on a tour of the churches and communities next Thursday. Then a quick breakfast and high-tailed it to the church office to drop off the bulletin blanks for next week and see if I was needed. Made a phone call and then headed out.

I have a short while until I need to leave with dh for the volunteer appreciation tea at the retirement home.

Tonight is garbage night so I need to find 6 more bags of garbage to put out. I hear dh puttering some more in the office so he's doing his bit towards this. The bedroom is done but the bathrooms might be a good place to start. As well, we want to get the books we don't want to the school for their book sale. So far, I've only found 3 so I did a good job purging last year.

Have not done much. Have been contacted by a friend who teaches at the high school I attended re: a retiring English teacher, asking for memories/stories to share. I don't remember specifics about her, unfortunately, beyond the fact that she managed to turn me on to English my Sr. year when I had disliked English classes and been a strong math/science buff throughout high school. Anyhow, I'm trying to get details so I can post a note on my high school class fb page. I've had lunch and s2s-ed. And let dogs in . And out. And in. And out. Threw away a dog toy that Tori has shredded. I will get going now.

It is 62* outside! Still sunny.
