Furnace guy just left he cleaned the gas thingie out it was full of junk or gunk, it is nice to have heat agajn now before toddlerN arrives.

I worked in the kitchen while he was here glad for that progress.

Okay.

Finally drove to $$ store & picked up a bottle of oil. Couldn't find anything else (here) to fix for tonight. Need to make a shopping list just for a few pot luck items so they'll be here. Hate yearly shopping as $$ mount quickly. Need to figure a plan for weekly dishes and try to buy things along while we're still in FL (as much as I hate carrying more than I have to). Just hate spending so much all at once for all the staples or often used items. Try to make sure there's a good supply of 'paper' items before we leave in the fall. Had a small dish of the 3-bean salad for lunch. For some reason the green beans are 'tasteless'. Maybe I bought low sodium by mistake. That's about how they taste & I'm a little bit on the tired side and too lazy to go pull out the cans.

Just fed dh his lunch -a toasted peanut butter/banana sandwich. He's always easy to please. I just don't feel like doing much today. My tummy is sort of in an uproar. He's snoozing now (and rightfully so!) Think I'll go back in and lie down for a while.

Did manage to get our suitcases in the car. Think I'm going to just set them in dd's MH for the time being as there's quite a puddle by our storage unit. At least they're out of here. Did put some extras in there to head back to FL (& I listed them!)

* sigh * I'm not a good manager. I was, in the classroom, I think. I was pretty organized and had good rapport with my students and coworkers... but now... not so much. Oh -- I mean, dh & I have good rapport -- but I am NOT a good "self-starter." I'm way too much of a procrastinator and when it comes to housework, I really let dh influence me with the I've Got All Day thing... only it becomes All Week, All Month, etc.

* Meant to tell you -- dh's arrival home is exactly like Mike's, except he doesn't have to s2s. He DOES have to have EVERYTHING put away before he can lie down, no matter what time of day or night we return.

Oh! That reminds me. Lately I've noticed when I'm away from home, I can READ but not POST here... so if y'all don't hear from me this weekend, that'll be why -- my something or other is being "blocked" and I can't check in.

Also... sympathizing w/Harriet & dd re: jr. dept clothing. I was not overly impressed w/grown women's dept clothing last time I checked either, but I can certainly understand not wanting to show up dressed like the teacher. Although when I retired, we had some VERY stylish young teachers on staff... some who sometimes barely met the dress code themselves.

Happy birthday to Ivy's ds! LOL @ the "reverse curse." My dbro is the only grandson to carry on my dgfather's name -- dgfather's brother has some sons, but I don't know them, they don't live nearby -- but in my ddad's immediate family, dbro is IT, and he is still single @ 42. So I think the line ends here. Glad my dgs at least got ddad's middle name. I know that made ddad really happy, even though it was partly b/c it was ddil's dad's middle name also.

Oh -- one more thing -- caregiver has called and reported that dmil WAS able to get out of bed and sit in her chair today. This is HUGE. Dmil does sooo much better w/this caregiver, the younger of the two. This lady is just sooo optimistic and cheery. Dmil eats better, performs better for PT, just everything is better when she's there. Other caregiver is very caring, but much more pessimistic and passive, re: feeding dmil. If dmil says no, she will back off. Yesterday, she had us fearful that dmil was headed back to hospital (urine dark, sign of dehydration again?) then today... dmil is sitting in her chair again for the first time in a month??? * shaking my head *

~ Put on moisturizer & eyebrows, re-fixed hair with a comfy headband. Now I'm not looking AS "freakish"!
~ Wrote my a.m. "to do" list, to keep on track a day ahead of the game.
~ Made our bed. Boy! 2 people sure can mess up a bed in 1 night!
~ Set my dawn simulator for tomorrow.
~ Hung up my Muumuu & put my blanket in the great room to take a nap later- perhaps.
~ Am listening to "Soundscapes" music on Music Choice Comcast Cable music channel. SooOOOOOooo BEAUTIFUL! & Relaxing!

Lucylee, It's great you were a good manager in the classroom, etc...! That's something to be proud of. I hope your dmil starts to improve even more. I'm glad she's eating better, doing better with her PT, & hoping that the urine sign can be resolved soon. Glad she's sitting.

Dee, I LOVE the $$ store! Are you talking about DOLLAR store? It's a GR8 place to get index cards, computer paper, list pads, cards, tablets, & stationery. The last time I bought 5 different list pads, the quality was awesome. I was SO "happy"! My tummy's in an "uproar," today, too. I hope you Get Well Soon!

CathyS, I'm glad you got in a good sleep. It sounds like you're progressing getting lol & suitcases & everything organized after his trip.

Still not dressed.

Did throw on gardening clothes and worked outside for about 2.5 hours.

Front gardens are done and mulch put in them to control weeds. But that used up all the bags of chips I have. I need about another 10. Sigh. Nothing is open today because of the holiday.

I've weeded the garden at the entrance to the back yard so it looks better and it is ready for mulch.

I got another garden done as well, and tidied around the access to the septic tank (no point covering it up again.

Made dh water the front garden under the eaves. He never redirected the downspout so no water is getting to those plants and as a result they look awful.

Everything is late because of the hard winter. My 30 year old bearded iris didn't make it through the winter but I see two tiny sprigs that might form a new plant. It was 4' diameter so that left a hole in the back garden that I've 'filled' with the sundial for now. That's an example of needing a lot of mulch because otherwise weeds will fill in there. The other bushes in the back garden are all barely showing any sign on life. Not sure if that's the winter or a sign of the septic (the irises were 40' away from the septic and uphill of it so I doubt they were affected by that.)

The problem with getting the gardens ready for selling is that you have to get everything 'perfect'. Normally, I'm imperfect and people will look at them and think, "She has a bit of work to whip them into shape." But now people will look at them say, "That's a lot of work for me to whip them into shape." I think dh still hasn't realized we'll likely own the house all summer and thus have to keep up the place even when we aren't living here.

Dee, or whoever asked: dd is back in Waterloo getting ready to move up here. They arrive on June 1. Their truck & packers is May 30, they'll clean on the 31st, drive up (I guess stay here) clean the new place on the June 1 and their truck comes June 2. I'll pick up the keys for them on May 30 because the first is a Sunday. We get our keys on the 29th.

About the 70 boxes. Dh doesn't think we have 70 boxes. But I've read each painting is to be in its own box and we have at least 25 paintings so I think we'll make the 70. I think I'll double up some of the paintings.

Hi everyone! I am the owner/operator/manager/only employee of the Elizabeth's Own family of companies. Some of our (that's the royal we) subsidiaries include: Household Repairs, Roofing and HVAC, Maid Service (not our best), Lawn Care, Pet Care, Child Care, Entertainment, etc., etc., etc. I cannot delegate at all. I might or might not be good at it, but living alone affords no opportunity. Today, I had a long list of things to do, but that got a complete change at 830, when a friend called. It is her first day at school (college student) and daycare called saying her son had a fever. Elizabeth's Own Child Care Company to the rescue! Fortunately, none of the things on my to do list are time constrained, and it is just a matter of reversing the order I planned to do them. Only regret is that DD12 is not here. She would love to babysit and she is a favorite of my friend's son.

It is kind of odd 'taking care' of him. He is 4.5 years old, but autistic and almost non-verbal. He seems to be happy hanging out in DD's room making raspberry noises. I cannot decide if this is part of the autism or if he is imitating the rhythms of rap music. I did put out toys for him. His lunch is cooking as I type. I am not sure if he will tell me when he is hungry, I am just going to call him when it is ready.

Elizabeth's Own Pet Care Company is having trouble with dFosterCat14. She has not thrown up any more blood, but she wants nothing to do with the special food, hates the laxatone, and fights the pills with more ability than one would expect from a skinny, frail looking, 14 yo cat! Of course, she spent her life protecting her brother (who was twice her size), so I guess it should not be too surprising that her frail exterior would house a tiger. A vet at an emergency center once told me, after dodging my cat's claws and teeth told me, "It's the ones that don't care that we worry about."

Lunch was manwich sandwich, coleslaw and chips. Portion controlled to fit into my calorie needs.

Last load of bedding (comfortor) is drying now. Everything else has been put back on the bed.

I've wrapped birthday gift for LO friend and have it ready to go. I'll pick LO up from school today (instead of riding the bus) in order to make it on time to his friends birthday party. Drive 60 miles so the children run from one game to another, listen to very LOUD music and eat greasy pizza. LO will love every moment of it. Chuck E Cheese here we come......

Well, did it again -lost a post- simply because I was too lazy to go to the control panel and disable the onboard mouse. I should know better.

Pretty much said that I think I flunked "Management One" today. I've been nothing more than a slug all day -either reading or dozing.

We have pot luck at 6 and then dh has fire meeting at 7.

Thanks, Kathryn -guess I knew that info but I just couldn't remember.

Dh is dragging tonight too. He tried getting our water wheel running and made a couple of runs to the hardware store. (It was his 'day off') He thinks the wheel is about 10 years but I'm not sure. Maybe. This is about our 12th year here. We sold our house in 2009 and have been here most of every summer since 2003.

I think that Elizabeth may be the most well rounded manager here! Kudos for taking care of the little one on short notice.

I'm feeling like a ping pong ball today. I've hardly been home but have made four trips out - ds to work, car to be worked on, body work/massage for me (after which I really wanted a little nap) and then to pick ds up from work. Then he wanted to go to Target and we agreed that we both had 15-20 min and he came and found me about 5 minutes in to say he was ready to go! I am ready to strangle him. (I enjoy a nice trip through Tarjay!) He's wisely decided not to make himself burgers using the GF grill, which requires extensive cleaning afterward.
