Serious but Simply Sunday

It's 1:50 am and I am done with what I wanted to get done, but Elizabeth's Own Roofing Company has new work to do.

After taking out some trash, I heard strange sounds coming from the sewing room. Wondering what on earth the cats had gotten into this time, I found water dripping from the ceiling AGAIN. So not good. I thought I had done a good job caulking around the roof patch, last night's crazy rain shows otherwise. I guess tomorrow I will take everything out of the closet AGAIN, and see if caulking from the inside will fix the problem. This is so not good. I would cheer myself up with a glass of wine, but I'd rather just go to bed.

Another Sunday but this one is a bit simpler for me. Just preaching one service and only a 2 hour Open House, not 3, like yesterday.

With so much of our stuff packed away, life is a bit simpler here. It takes very little time to clean (top to bottom yesterday was under 3 hours and this is a big house) and there is less visual distraction. Can't say I feel peaceful though!

Today's focus for packing will likely be paintings. It is 2 weeks tomorrow that the truck is loaded so I think I can last that long without the paintings on the wall although I will say at the moment I wonder if they are all that are keeping me sane since I have packed away almost all other expressions of who I am.

The new place has large walls but fewer rooms so we will rotate paintings at the new place by season with only a few getting the honor of remaining up year-round (one because of its size!)

I'm getting excited for you, Kathryn. Amazes me watching you downsize. Especially since I didn't get that chance to do it myself. There are still things I think of to miss and wonder "whatever happened to......?"

We're not going to church this morning. I simply don't feel up to it. I kind of knew when I went to bed it was going to be a tough morning. And not too much birthday celebrating either.

Dh has taken the 74 Mercury Comet to the fire department to be detailed by a fellow fireman. He's showing it in a classic car show this Thursday (here at the campground). Have to go pick him up so better get myself s2s, etc. At least I've had breakfast and meds. I was a little surprised at the 'lowish' blood sugar count this morning after having a small piece of pecan pie last night. It was 120 so not too bad at all. BBL

Realizing there are 2 topics for today, yes, but unable to get either to merge to the other right now. So I must simply post in the longer one and say "hi" to Elizabeth right now.

Kind of in a rush.

Heading for church now, then home to prepare chicken transport pen, then off to a farm 45 mins away where I will likely buy pullets.

I hope Elizabeth comes in here to see this: I do not think caulking the inside is the thing to do. If the water is leaking from the outside, caulking the inside will allow the water to still come in and pool up behind the caulk causing more damage as surrounding areas inside fill up with moisture. It may not drip in that spot but will eventually damage an adjacent area and drip there. Sorry it's such a hard fix.

Went to church this morning but discovered I'd missed an email about something our committee was doing so I came back home to get my stuff for the contribution and drove back. The stuff we were collecting was not visible in the place they said it was and I couldn't find it. By then I was so frustrated that I couldn't sit for the remainder of the service so I just came home. Now I'm beyond annoyed and aggravated.

A couple of our committee members live with their smart phones at their fingertips and insist on running our committee as if we all do that. Some of us miss things repeatedly because of it, and they know this, but don't seem to care.

Anyway, now I've missed the service, and I still have my envelope I had planned to put in today. I need a do-over.

3 people coming this afternoon to go over house plans. This will be the 3rd time these people were here. I just don't have the patience for people coming in and out of my house like this. I have my sisilaw doing the same thing every few days. I feel like I don't have a haven to myself anywhere.

Man! I'm having another bad attitude day.

(((Harmony))) wish I was there just so we could sit and chat over a cup of tea. But then that would mean 1 more person coming in and out.

Dh took the car to get it detailed and I went a short time later to bring him back. Somewhere between here and there he lost $80 and the only thing he can figure is when he got the paper in town that the $$ came out of his pocket. Glad it wasn't me -though he assures me he wouldn't be upset. I happened to have $60 so we gave the guy that and will give him the other $20 tomorrow night. But then when dh was checking my tires for air pressure he found $10 -which went right in the missions jar. All found money plus our dimes do.

Dh just announced that our water wheel is running. He had to do some replacements after having made it several years ago. How those years fly!

Going to go watch the parade around the campground. Every year there's more decorated golf carts, bikes and some fire trucks come in so they make a pretty big deal for Memorial Day.

Dee: It is worth a call to the store where he bought the paper. I was in a convenience store when they found over $100 on the floor and they put it aside and waited for the owner to call.

I've merged in Elizabeth's posts so don't worry if it looks like today's thread has changed. It has, you aren't crazy.

It took just 15 minutes to get the house ready to show this afternoon. So I'm making my lunch now and then will practice the hymn we learned for this week. I'll reread my sermon in the car on the way there.

I woke before 8 a.m., I submitted a contest poem on-line called "Dear Dad," which I like for sentimental reasons. DH is watching the Indy 500. It was Jim Nabors' last year to sing at the beginning of the race. He's sang it since the 1970's & he's looking very old, DH says.

The weather here is cloudy, but no rain. On Memorial Day we're forecast to get T-storms, heavy rains, & probably wind, too. Winds seem to go with that sort of thing.

(((((Dee))))), I hope your DH can recover where the $80 went. Some people are more honest than we think. It's on the news reports all the time. Sorry this happened to him. It must be frustrating for him & embarrassing, too. Poor guy.

Back from my service, house is now open and ready to show.

Before heading out I defrosted the meat for dinner and made up stuffing. Dinner tonight is stuffed pork chops. The meal plan has also been done for between now and the move. There will be no meat left in the deep freeze if we stick to the plan and the only meat in the fridge freezer will be some burger patties. Because we live in a small village, it is a 10 minute drive to takeaway food (except for pizza) so it is faster for us to make up a meal than grab something, but I often grab something because I don't have a plan. Now there is a plan in place.

I intend to buy up the leftover pulled pork after Friday's church dinner so that we can feed the movers on moving day.

I have accounting tasks to do today but will take a short break first to gather my thoughts. Dh is watching the baseball game (I bought him the package to stream the games yesterday as an "I love you" gift.)
