Tuesday Raindrops

Completed a 3-minute 'round robin' in my "5 rooms" (living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom & bedroom). I did get them all straightened and probably 'company ready' in that time. I have a fairly large bag of toiletries/meds, etc in the bathroom that I keep 'putting off'. Decided I'd get 3 items put away from that each day & soon it will be done & will give me more room in there. I actually have a 3-drawer plastic bin on the first shelf of the bathroom laundry closet that stands empty & waiting. So it really probably isn't a BIG job.

I was up early, showered, getting ready for dr. apt. when they called and cancelled till next week. Oh well.

I'm feeling sorta burned out these days. Not taking on any further projects, just the bare necessities until I feel better. What a novel concept: take care of me for a change. We'll see how that goes over around here.

Rain in lots of places I see. A few days ago we put out the sprinklers 2 evenings in a row as the grass was turning brown. Last evening we had a nice rain. Very thankful for the moisture...know you are too, OKay, and I'm gonna hope it holds off for Elizabeth. There's supposed to be some flooding around the upper gulf coast. Rain never seems to be exactly the amounts we need.

Watching a movie and reading my book. Just like I have no work to do!

helia, dd15 and I just talked this morning about trying to tell the difference between taking a healthy break and procrastinating! (Don't we all need to contemplate that once in a while!) For high school students at end-of-year, I think the chances for breaks do dwindle down, and it seems SO unfair, of course. So there's a logical tendency toward insisting on claiming a break anyway. I'm grateful that the volleyball calendar is clear right now so that dd can reclaim some of that time.

I can't get used to helia having a dd16! Oh, yes, her skills would make her a sought-after bride in many cultures (or centuries)! Happy that she can learn these things for personal enjoyment and consider marriage at her (long-term) leisure!

26 pages - hmmm... ... now that I think of it, dd's project is 26 pages long but I guess that doesn't mean others' have that much. I know that number because I advised her to hand-write the numbers on the printed pages as a last step after all printing except the Table of Contents and only then print that page to match the hand-written numbers. (I learned that sanity-saving trick a long time ago.) The pages that were not in essay form were charts and graphs, like comparisons of APR (and also APY) on banking offerings, or the 4 types of taxation revenue and their usual destinations. So those pages took a lot more time than writing. Interspersed essays (I especially liked, "What have you learned about your parents as a result of this project?") had just suggestions for number of pages, and I think dd is usually pretty wordy. She knows it is faster to include plenty than it is to edit tightly.

A funny was when dd suddenly gasped, about 10:00 last night, and announced she only had (pretend) $4,000 left in her project budget for her 20-year-old fictional self, to buy a (pretend) car to go to her (pretend) job 10 miles away, and had just done the math on taxes, tag, license, gasoline, maintenance and there was NO RELIABLE CAR IN THE WORLD she could afford. Her ddad agreed to ponder her budget with her and finally I heard him say, "Honey! You can buy it on time. They won't demand it all in cash right now!" She said, "on time... ... ?" in such innocence! They just stared at each other from opposite sides of the responsibility chasm! "Payment Book!" he said. "Oooh Nooooooo!" she said. (her mother's daughter!)

I think that's me too, Harmony. I don't feel bad, just note that I try NOT to go down all the steps to go out. Know my knees are feeling achy and sometimes downright painful. Keep thinking if I only took off a few pounds it would help -and I know it would, but to what degree -no idea. Made myself go walk late yesterday.

Just finished the dishes -taking that 'famous' break then going to shampoo my hair. Then if I have time left will go up to the laundry room to do a LOL. Absolutely have to today.

Dh got part of our deck painted yesterday and neighbors helped him move some things into place. So I was able to put water & some soda into our shiny new fridge out there. The fridge is really hidden so it's very usable out there. Can get all those beverages out of the kitchen now. DS-R & ddil raid it fairly often on the weekends. Never mind it.

Well hello again, everyone! I've missed y'all!!!

We got home around 1:00-2:00 a.m. Sunday night, and I have to admit, I slept till about 2:00 p.m. yesterday! Of course, after arriving home, we had to unpack and put away everything and read the papers... although I gave up and turned off the light on my side of the bed while dh was still reading. And I was up at about 10:30 a.m. when dsgm called... (to thank me for the card I sent her on Mother's Day.) But once I finally did get out of bed for good yesterday, I did get almost all the laundry caught up, so * woo hoo for me.* I have a very small load left to do today, plus I want to change the sheets today.

Dmom called me yesterday and she was at the boat harbor... but could not find her For Sale sign... and said it was just as well, the boat still needed a lot of cleaning on the inside... yada yada yada.
At least she was making progress and actually got herself down there to look at it.

DH & I went to Wmart (Memorial Day afternoon is a GREAT time to shop at Wmart, btw! NO ONE was there!) -- visited dmil -- and then went out to eat and saw the movie Blended, w/Drew Barrymore & Adam Sadler. It's pretty good. We laughed.

Our trip was nice... EXCEPT for a dgs who protested the long drive loudly and often... and was suffering from diarhea and a terrible rash from allergies/excema... (I think he's going back to the doctor today.)AND a young, tired married couple who bickered and grumbled at each other waaay too much of the time for my peace of mind... (She had worked the night shift Wed. & Thurs. before we left on Friday; he had been on the road w/4 other guys since Thurs. evening.) But on Saturday, we spent the afternoon riding rides at the amusement park, and dgs LOVED that. Then we let the young married couple stay at the park w/friends, dh sat in the van and listened to the Braves game, and dgs and I went to the hotel room and took a long nap. Sat. night, we all went out to eat at seafood buffet and then the young married couple went out for more sight-seeing and we took dgs back to the hotel again to play in the bathtub and get ready for bed. So maybe we gave them enough "space."
The weather was perfect, and we had a really good time, except for being tired. (We had to get up before 7:00 a.m. both days.)

I don't think we're getting any rain today... and it looks like it's been pretty dry all weekend here.

(((BIG HUGS))) for these teenagers and the end-of-year projects. 26 pages DOES sound like an awful lot... but if it is the economics budget, which was a very popular project for our seniors for one teacher's time here -- then I can see why it's so long. Good for HRH, figuring out dd could make payments on the car.

Good idea, Harmony, to take care of YOU for a change!!! BIG WTG!!!

(((Kathryn))) IKWYM about making those little mistakes -- body cream for face cream, etc. You do need * and very much deserve * that break that you should be enjoy when you are all moved in to the new apartment!

DS just called... said doctor wasn't really concerned about dgs having any sort of serious problem -- said sometimes toddlers get this diarhea and it just has to run its course... told them to give him plenty of yogurt and pedialyte, and switch to skim milk b/c lactose could be irritating it (but did not seem to think there was any need to ban dairy products totally). He also said he was not concerned about dehydration at all, b/c dgs was obviously very active, running around the office, etc. He gave him a steroid rx for the rash, and said daily dose of Claritin would help, with Benadryl as needed, so he agreed that seasonal allergies were contributing to the itching.

Talking... no mention of that, or lack therof, was made. DS said dgs was jabbering away in the office. Funny thing -- dgs knows almost all his letter sounds, and LOVES to point at letters and have us tell him which letter it is -- and he will make the letter sound on demand... but is VERY hesitant to attempt to repeat WORDS. Puzzling. Frustrating.
Nana is VERY impatient.

I am back from a walk before it got hot. Focusung on inside stuff the house is coming around today. Laundry is going now. Kids will be here later on. I need to dust. Feeling a bit puny so it is a great reminder for me to not over do.

Hello Dear Ladies,

Rain here too, seems to be heavy at times with flood warning and everything.

Guys cooked a nice barbeque yesterday and I only had to do some veggies for them and some potatoes.

Weekend at work was hectic and crazy like every holiday weekend is.

Have done the dishes, helped Dbrother, did my home therapy and had a shower. This weather makes me feel tired. also I worked my arm quite a bit in therapy. Sometime I get it above my head and it hurts and I want to bring it down but it hurts to bring it down too. Thankfully DH was there to help get my arm down. It will get better is my chant.

Think I will read for awhile and then try to get the kitchen cleaned at least.

Good (just barely) morning to everyone! Sorry to hear the Okay is also having a torrential Tuesday. I did sleep through art class, as I planned, getting up with an 11:45 alarm. I took my 'morning' pill and am CUOP and posting here until I can eat lunch. Stomach is NOT happy, very likely from stress. DD12 is on summer vacation, so I called the X to find out when/where to pick her up. He is coming to look at my swamp cooler/roof problems. I have a theory about what is happening, but I would rather consult a mechanical engineer to make sure I know what I am doing. I will most certainly need a new sewing room ceiling, and will not be surprised if I need a new roof as well.

After lunch, I need to do some job search stuff, someone will call at 2:00. I will do as much cleanup as possible. There is not a lot I can do when the sewing room closet contents have exploded into the hall along with much of the contents of the sewing room itself. I SO did not need this. Bill paying time too, what a joy.

Harriet and Helia: Twenty six pages sounds about right for a HS term paper. They are really good for learning how to construct a thesis or dissertation. I used my HS English teacher's organization and note taking system for mine. The only change I made was that instead of using note cards, I put the information in a spreadsheet. If I did one today, I would use a database for it, but still using her system. You can get a decent car for 4K. A 2003 Ford Taurus station wagon with only 10k more miles than mine is on craigslist for $3500. My oil leaks and my radiator fluid leaks, but it gets me anywhere I need to go.
