Thundering Thursday

We're supposed to get storms here (nothing but drizzle at the moment) and I certainly need to thunder through this apartment and make a difference in the mess and unsettledness.

What goals do you have for today?

How long will this process take? I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

Not one room is done, not even the bathrooms.

The guest bedroom is 50% better and won't be perfect until the paintings are up. In my zone system for the movers, the storage room, hall closet, guest bedroom and my bathroom all formed one zone.

The paintings are low priority so as many as can fit (remember, there are 41 of them) are stored in the hall closet so it can't be used for off-season coats or other storage. The storage room has one (soon to be 2) doors in it as well as what I can fit in but it is missing its rolling shelves because they are in use elsewhere.

The guest bath is coming along but needs over the door towel holders and other storage extenders. Possibly some under the sink drawers, as well.

So all the boxes for those rooms are piled in the guest bedroom. As things progress, it will get better, but for now the closet is piled high with boxes and there is a one layer thick stack around the edges of the room that don't have furniture. At least I can move in there easily now.

The bed is a nice height. So I'm pleased with that and we slept well last night, just not long enough.

Today's focus needs to be the master bedroom and the kitchen. Both rooms have TVs in them with chrome cast so I will play Downton Abbey while I work.

Dh has to work on the New Zealand project today so his work space is set up now.

Of course, the moving repair guy will be here today too and that will distract dh further.

I need to take a desk day as well. I think I have all the mail in one place. At least I hope I do.

Good morning Kathryn and everyone else as you enter the village.

Goals for today, pick up the limbs that blew out of the trees after high winds last night. I also will mow, trim the boxwood bushes along the alley and spread the 5 bags of rubber mulch along the edges of the boxwoods next to the street.

Better get to it.

Kathryn, as I've said, we still have boxes and stuff from our move that we haven't done yet. It will all come in time!

I am on the run today - have already had dMacs out to PT. Need to take off soon to p/u mom's meals and then visit here, then I am going to attorney's office at 2 p.m. I need to go by temple later to sign checks too.

Last night we went to the festival again - enjoyable evening until the main performer started up and then it was loud I couldn't hear or think or converse. Oy. We left about 10:30 but the period from 10 p.m. to 10:30 seemed to take hours and hours to pass.

Lost 3.4 lbs at WW when I weighed in yesterday before going to festival = ticket to eat a burger last night.

And I'm off again.

Good Morning, Village!

I got up early, but DH was still asleep, so haven't s2s yet, but will soon.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast for today. DH has a retiree's luncheon to attend. I'll be home working on outlines, a letter to a dfriend, housework, walking, etc....

I redecorated and decluttered my office some more last night. I'm really loving it. ♥ I have about 1/4 of 3 shelves, of craft items, which I'll move into the larger office closet where there is more room. Am trying to get my small office to look less like a craft room-office and more like an REAL HONEST TO GOD OFFICE!!!!! And it's happening!

Might put the pink jacquard tablecloth on the dining room table today, for Father's Day. DD is coming, possibly our dgson-17.5, too, I hope, but he'll probably be with his own father, as it's his visiting day.

Lilac , You'll be burning a lot of calories & building muscles today! Wow! A lot of work!

Kathryn , Moving is VERY overwhelming! ((((♥))))) It's one of the most hard things to do in life. Such a life-changer, too. It'll take time to settle in, but just remember, this overwhelm part is temporary and will pass. It WILL get better!

Hi, there! I'm new to this board but not to SHE; I was a member of the old boards back in the late 90's/early 2000's. I posted an intro in the Cafe, just popping over here to say hello and see what's happening.

Does anyone do daily challenges or just on the weekly Conga? I tend to do my weekly deep cleaning on Thursday and leave Friday for errands, etc.

We don't usually have challenges although, occasionally one is tossed out there. I hang almost exclusively in the PWYC threads and keep myself accountable. As well, when another villager mentions something like laundry or bill paying, that quite often reminds me to do things I'd forgotten.

In the old house, the mud room had 2 chests of IKEA drawers that held back door stuff. Hats, mitts, cloth bags, tips for my walking stick, fanny pack, and a drawer of small toys for 'good' children to choose from as a prize when they were exceptionally well behaved at my house.

Today, I had to dump all that stuff out (the movers moved it full), line the drawers and now I get to fill it with stuff for the kitchen. The bottom drawers are actually deep rolling bins. If you recall, I have an issue here with shelf height and now I can store all my jugs of things in there, standing up. As well, I'm putting cereal boxes there since the drawers are next to the table. Baking things too since it is across from the mixer, microwave and toaster oven. We'll see how this works. A completely new use for something.

Of course, now I have three boxes of miscellaneous junk that needs to find a new home.

The furniture repair man has come and gone. Did a great job on the table. There were already marks and some scratches so I didn't want perfect, I wanted non-snagging. He seems to have achieved that. The wardrobe and secretary are fixed so I can load those (and the secretary will hold some of the things from those kitchen drawers) but he took a side table and dh's night stand to do at the shop. He'll do the filing cabinet later. It is particle board and was only $100 so what we want is for it to not look bad - perfect is unreasonable.

Surfer Dude called from Germany. He's got a job offer so wanted help understanding the contract (thankfully it is in English as well as German.) We are thrilled he is doing so well and love that he calls us with questions and updates. I miss him but am probably talking with him more now that he's gone than when he was here and had friends and other activities to distract him from spending time with his 'aunt' Kathryn & 'uncle Ken'

It is lunch time here so I might take a break before tackling more kitchen boxes. Have yet to even go into the bedroom.

As I posted in the Cafe, I just moved in a new home as well. I'm a relatively new "emtpy-nester" so it's been quite an adjustment.

Off to make lunch as well. I've cleaned two bathrooms and one bedroom, craft room and started on another guest room. More after lunch.

Kathryn...Remember I moved across town so to speak five years ago. It took me 5 days to empty boxes and find homes for everything. I've lost count of the many times I've moved in my life.. I think its somewhere around 22. Some moves were far away and some where across town. Only once did I ever have someone else pack for me and thats when my husband and I left the Navy. All other packing and unloading was done by me...No help ever from my husband, and many times with a helper with little feet

First thing I always did was set up beds and my kitchen...at least so I could cook with it. Also with little feet around it was important to get the tv going. Your going to love everything once the chaos is over with. You should be closing in on the light at the end of the tunnel.

My day is looking good. Dinner is planned and the house is in good shape. I have my genealogy class at 1PM this afternoon and am looking forwards to that.

My summer hair do is in effect...that means its tied back or up and my summer makeup routine takes less than 5 minutes. For me, real sunscreen is a must. I mix the really stuff with my liquid makeup. BTW...been soaking my feet everyday and the results are wonderful. Now when I go to bed at night, the heels of my feet don't snag the sheets.

Off to prep for dinner. I am making homemade pizza for Sweetie, and I'll be eating fish Cya'll later Make it a good day ...
