Enjoy your time, Helia. Would love to make that trip one more time, but it's pretty long from here. I too always could view the beach & Diamond Head. We were actually in a condo right next to Fort Derussey. Did a lot of walking around there and learned my way quite well. We were usually there over 2 weeks.

Nice! Dh's resting heart rate is 44.

Dh's is too, Helia. Seems techs, etc are always shocked when he has it taken and they always want it higher but his is what it is. It is a little higher since his valve replacement however. But my resting is also about 64 but that's with meds I'm sure.

And about becoming more of a matriarch, how funny. If having grandchildren speeded matriarchal status, I would be flying along toward it, yes. But of course that status has meaning a bit more ethereal and substantive than that! Esse Quam Videri - to be, rather than to seem! And certainly over the last few days there has been much Be-ing for me to accomplish! Shall I mention the several hours I took boys 8, 6, and 3 to Mickey-D's Play Place right after the last day of school, where they found lots of friends also there celebrating the same freedom? But it gave dd34 some much-needed calm. Also many moments of helping little boys understand deep concepts of big brotherhood, and the personhood of a tiny baby and why he's biting Mommy! (smile)

He's a sweet delightful little baby - you forget how tiny they are.

The easy birth story for dd34 was a happy thought (dsonil described it as: "door to chair to bed to baby"). But dsonil did have marks on his right hand where dd had held it during the drive to the hospital! Oh well, he's an old pro at all this.

So glad dd34 came through this delivery with flying colors, Harriet! (Marks on dsil's hand!) Glad you're home safe & sound. May be spending winters even closer to you in the not too distant future. At least it won't be many hours from your locale to getting where dd/dsil may well be within the next couple of years. Dsil much sooner if this job comes through and it's sounding very positive.

We're checked out. Dh has sessions all afternoon too. I'd forgotten about that. We may have lunch together, though. I'm sitting in a lobby of one of the hotel towers right now. If dh doesn't call me in about 30 minutes, I'll go look for food by myself.

Oh, yes, Dee! Now I'm remembering you have ties to Hawaii. I'm OK with keeping this trip on the shorter side. What I really need now, it feels like, is to be low-key for a while. The day after we get back, I go to 2 days of parent orientation for dd18's programs. Even though ds is at the same Univ., I will go. Dd18 is in 2 completely different schools than ds, and they each have their own requirements, programs, etc. which I would like to learn about. I won't attend the whole thing, though. I don't need a tour of the campus or to hear about finances or maybe even the dorms. Dd18 is in an all-women's dorm which is a bit unique, a little more pricey than the regular dorms. It has a formal tea every Friday, though. I'm secretly hoping dd18 will invite me to attend one time, although she has already said that she won't be attending any of the teas. Very much like dd18, if you know her. Despite her gorgeous long curls, she's not really very girly. She doesn't own any make up. Or a comb. Or a brush. . .LOL!

Happy for Harriet's new gbaby!! Congratulations! --I don't remember if I said that before. I may have. . .

I'm proud of dd16 as it looks like she has managed to keep her great GPA in good style (all grades but one 92 are 95-99), not a small feat with so many busy evenings the last week of school (dd18's graduation, dd18's grad dinner, drumline) and all her involvement and hours spent on band and drumline and sacrificing the whole Saturday before finals to help prep for dd18's grad party - and then attending. . . It is still not clear to me on powerschool which are dd18's final grades.

OK, I'm going to save my laptop's power and turn it off.

This village is so wonderful. Anytime someone has any kind of issue, there is always at least one person who can offer solutions. Ivy, thank you for reminding me about frozen shoulder. I want to avoid that at all costs. It is still hurting even with Aleve and ice packs for 20 minutes an hour, but I am so grateful that I have a fighting chance to avoid surgery. I am just amazed that my seat belt hurts on the drivers side. I have always carried my purse on my left shoulder and can no longer do that. I have already warned dh that from this moment forward, I am not helping him carry anything heavy. We are forever lugging something around and I am not going to risk having this flare up again, if I am able to get better without anything but time, ice packs and Aleve.

This morning dh was unaware that I had fallen. I was lying on my right side and he came up behind me and started kissing me awake on the left side of my neck. I awoke in howling pain. To say the least, he was startled. I packed his lunch and he went to the garage to lock it and came back in, saying I think you need to go to the ER and I readily agreed. Of course, I had to wash my face, brush my teeth, iron something to wear, shower, do makeup and hair, before we could leave.

Yesterday I accomplished my goals out in the yard. It was low 70's and just delightful.

Our friend who hurt his rotator cuff last week was finally able to see a surgeon yesterday. So I was telling dh about Dee, Ivy and Sadie dealing with shoulder and rotator cuff surgeries. I even told him about Sadie not being able to tie an apron yet. Here I am today, unable to tie an apron.

Yesterday morning dh got out the mower and everything I needed for yard work. The small door that opens up like a garage door on the storage building was falling apart. Last night it fell apart when he put the stuff back. I was at ballgames and he go bonked in the head but has no apparent injury. So he barricaded the door and planned to just work a half day and replace it this afternoon. Since he was home, he started it late morning. He put it in using the original railing. It fits but didn't work. So he took it back down, removed the railing and cut and installed the new railing. He is working on the finishing touches.

Last night after dgs10s game he came over and talked to his mom. The boys were at their dads for the week. Dgs10 hugged his mom 4 times and looked like he wanted to crawl in her lap and cry. He told her that it had been a terrible week at dads. He said his stepmom got on to him for every move he made. Their dad never takes up for them. She is a control freak. It just broke my heart. He kept saying "tomorrow, I will be home with you again." Dgd17 had been saying that her dad sees the day coming when dgs10 will not want to go there again. She knows her dad because this week he told dgs10 that he was counting on him being with him, every other week thru high school. In our state there is an age limit where the child can decide. I told dd2 she needs to find out for sure what age that is. Her ex and his wife are constantly competing with dd2 and her dh on every level. It is ridiculous. Now they want to sell their home at the far west edge of town and move to the northeast area that we all live in. They can see how happy the boys are to be in town and close to their friends. The baby they adopted turned 1 today. Last week they took a mysterious trip to OK. We are wondering if they are trying to adopt another child. Stepmom has always babied dgs8, but once they adopted the baby, dgs10 has been treated like the red headed step child. If they adopt another, I think that will be the end of him staying there. Dd2 will probably have to go to court over it. The boys can't have soda at their house, but the adults drink it. The only milk the boys can have is in a bowl of cereal. The other day they had donuts and dgs10 slept late. Stepmom gave his favorite donuts to the baby and then rubbed it in when he got up. Dgs10 told his mom today, that stepmom is the devils child. I have news for exsonil, someday those boys are going to hate their dad for keeping them away from their mom, half the time. It is hard enough for dd2 living with this arrangement, but when she sees the boys so miserable, it hurts her watching them live this way.

Busy afternoon.

Worked on the kitchen. Dh wanted to do the rest of the cupboard installations but there were boxes in the way so I got working on those. About 4 boxes in to the job, it was getting hard to find a place to put the empty, flattened, cartons and I was despairing that no-one from the building would need them. Not 2 minutes later, the phone rang and it was a woman wanting as many boxes as we could give her. Dh and she made 3 trips with the dolly and her cart and she cleared me out. Of course, there's a new pile forming now so if someone else calls, I'll have things for them.

After that, we headed out for the bikes, and then a walk-in clinic. Dh has an infected toe. We have to go back for the meds now (the pharmacy was busy when we dropped off the script.)

It is Westfest (the local annual street party) so the roads will be closed soon and the pharmacy (which is in the grocery store) shares its parking lot with the party so things will be busy when we walk back for the meds.

I got two more boxes done while dh did dinner. The washer just buzzed so I'll start the dryer and then gather up more things for the washer. Lots of towels to do since I bought two new sets for dh.

I keep forgetting to say that the dr. at the ER kept laughing at how I fell. I have a sense of humor so I can see his point. He kept saying that I needed to come up with another reason how I fell other than falling asleep and falling sideways to the floor. I doze off all the time at the computer but this time, I must have been sound asleep. Dh said he is going to get me a seat belt for this chair. When the dr. was leaving the room for the final time, he said remember if your fill out the survey on your visit, remember I am dr. H, when he is actually dr. P. I had never seen him and didn't realize that he has a sense of humor. Dd1 and were going to walk this am. She called as I was getting ready to shower. She offered to take me to the ER. Afterwards, when I called to tell her I was home, she was glad that she hadn't went because she has seen Dr. P everytime she took her dmil to the ER. I told her that she probably thought "great, now we're dealing with my mom and health issues". She denied it.

Kathryn, it seems to me that you are quickly getting settled. I am so glad that the repairs that have been done so far, are satisfactory.
