Thursday's Leap of Faith

I s2s, dressed, put Vicks Vapor Rub on my chest, DH put Icy Hot Roll-On on my back. I'm "stinky" today.
I did ankle PT exercise & iced. Wore the custom-made orthotics ALL day yesterday.
It's sunny here, showers are "possible", but so far, they've not arrived.

I plan to do lol, especially pitchy jeans.
DH will go to get groceries/prescriptions & mail my 2 mailers to the greeting card company.
Might read, write, & crochet today. Want to lay low b/c don't feel 100% like go-go-going all day. Some days are meant for resting anyway.

Dgd is having lunch with her mini tray watching toons.
We had chickens corn muffins done.
Toddler may not come for a few days her dad is getting married she is a flower girl and they are headed out of town.

Am watching Women's PGA Golf Open from Pinehurst, SC or is it NC? So relaxing!
Am crocheting Granny squares for dgd's Christmas afghan, while watching/listening to gold play-by-play.
Took Extra Strength Febreze, sprayed the bunny room sofa, stuffed bunnies/bears, & cat's "throne" (will explain) & my top blankets on our bed.
The cat's "throne" is 3 floor pillows, from Walmart, which are stack on top of each other, with a couple of fleece folded throws atop the "throne". She looks out the door window, while she's on the "throne" & sleeps.
Also, dusted & dust mopped the bunny room. Dgson will have his backpack, laptop, clothes, etc... in the bunny room, while he's here.
Now, I'm off to watch the golfers & crochet more on squares. Was so surprised to find I'd already crocheted 15 CC centers to grannies, like I needed, but it's been done!

Thanks for the good thoughts, Kathryn... re: my need for a leap of faith that we are not going to have one funeral after another forever... DH really needs that leap of faith...

I wish I had some solution for you with the bathroom. I do believe you will come up with some sort of remedy though. You constantly amaze me and this will be no different. Some morning you may just wake up and the perfect answer will be starting right in your face, and you'll think, "Why didn't I think of that before???" (((BIG HUGS)))

No time to really cuop... been babysitting all day, then went to get dh's suit out of the cleaners, went to florist to place order for us/dmom/ds/ddil for dcousin's funeral...
and ds is the local entertainment for Music on the Square tonight.

DD called earlier and was on the road. Wanted to know what I'd heard about severe weather up SC, NC way on 95. After looking I could see they were calling for some from about Richmond up to D.C. She decided to take the 'western' route via Columbia, SC & up through Charlotte. Hope we didn't steer her wrong.

She waited until dsonil finished his interview today which was 3 hours long. Whether he gets the job or not is quite up in the air. Just hoping he doesn't get too disappointed if he doesn't get it. One of the parts of the interview was a written test. DSonil is NOT!!! a test taker and always does poorly. The comment was that he'd done pretty bad on the written. He noted that he knows the stuff and it's been ten years since he's worked in it and just needs a little refresher. He told them how awful he is at tests -even open book tests! So I'm sure that will be a stumbling block wherever he goes. So much of the computer work he has dd do and she keeps telling him that he needs to do it so it's the same when he sees someone in person. Quite often she could take a test online, not knowing the material, and could pass with flying colors, but he knowing the material would fail. So I have no idea where that leaves them. We'll see I guess.

Wish dh would come home for supper. He had me stop and get cheeseburgers and I got fries at our popular hamburger spot. I'm sure they're way cold by now. He was going to try eating just the burger without the roll. Went to the dentist again today. Have no idea how many trips that is but has to be at least 10 since he had his teeth pulled.

Kathryn, I didn't realize you were so frustrated with your new bathrooms. Quite correct that design seems to be the problem. I also agree with predictions that you will be using your problem solving skills to be happier with the bathrooms soon.

Sadie, thank you for letting us know the update for your ds. I'd been thinking of him. All best wishes for him.

Such an interesting title today for me. Because of faith I leaped into controversy today regarding our church. I'm aware this could make me very unhappy later, but I just couldn't pretend I had no opinion. I hope I do not lose friends. We just had a visit from an Elder. He was extremely kind and it was a good visit. I hope things remain so congenial.

The bathroom seems to be an immovable force so I'm just going to have to adjust to it, not the other way around. The over-the-door hooks don't all work because the metal door frames are too tight for many of them. I have two singles that fit, bought another metal hanger with 6 on it which didn't work because it was wider than the door and my remaining, unpacked, single hooks are too thick. There is a chance I have 2 more of the ones that work in my travel kit, I just haven't gone looking for them yet.

The doors are a real inigma. They are also too long so won't sweep over a floor mat with any substance (and dh's won't even go over a single layer of material, the main reason he's probably pulling the door off.)

Today we tried another store and got 9" wide over-the-cabinet-door towel hangers so they fit on the 12" wide door, and still allow it to open (the 12" wide ones were hitting the wall too soon to reach into the cupboard.)

Yes, nothing is to current code, but then again this is a 40+ year old building. Given this apartment has three full bathrooms, with two literally backing onto each other, I would tear out the wall between, pull out my tub/shower, put a toilet where the tub was and put a wall of counter with double sink across from the shower stall and toilet. It would be a long and narrow bathroom but much more usable and we could put a sliding door between the toilet and one sink and then it could be used as a guest bath or, opened up, as an ensuite (I'd keep the doors from the hall and bedroom dressing area.) Minimal plumbing changes and there's still a bathtub in the apartment (over in our office bathroom.) But this is a rental so there's no point even asking permission, I don't want to sink that kind of money into someone else's capital investment. I'm trying to be able to take everything with me to a new place.

The plus (and minus) of being an old building is the plaster since you can't hear from unit to unit (or even within this unit!) The minus being you must drill holes and screw in any hooks you need to put up (which is why I'm so desperately trying to get things to work over-the-door, although also, they'll belong to me and I can take them when I move.) I even intend to take the pull out shelves dh drilled into the kitchen cabinets. I'll just buy heavy duty rubber shelf liner and cover up the holes when I go.

Due to the drilling, dh is on critical path for almost everything. One day we'll spend many, many, hours drilling all the holes to put up paintings, mirrors, and clocks. You can't make a mistake, though, unlike a simple nail into wall-board that you can pull out and the hole is almost invisible and easily filled with a bit of toothpaste, the holes left behind by the drilling will be huge so we need to get things right the first time. Once the paintings are up, I'll get a whole closet and a large amount of space in the storage room for other items since right now, paintings are stored, not hung.

We bought a mirror for over the stove which will also need to be hung and drapes (with pressure fit rods.) Dh didn't believe my measurements (and he was right, I was off by 10" too much) but he was wrong and we are 9" too short. Turns out they don't make 72" ready-to-hang drapery. So I'll either be hemming or having things custom made. We left the main window in the bedroom covered though (with the gap at the bottom) so that we won't have direct sun on us in the morning.

Another pile of boxes left tonight and there may be more gone on Saturday (I told him I needed until then to get him 20.)

I may not do anything but go to bed tonight. But first I have to finish putting away our purchases from today.

My meeting was iffy. My eye appointment went well. Our errands were quite successful. So there was real progress today, just not on the unpacking front. It is beginning to feel like home, though.

And there is a showing of the house tonight. So fingers crossed the people will like it.

I finished the 1 lol, read/purged magazines, and after dinner has a brief nap in my recliner. Before dinner, took about 4-feet across the 2nd shelf down, in my small office, full of books, to make horizontal stacks, with decor on top, and you can read the spines much easier. It's giving the office personality, I have some beads, bead kits, bead fishing tackle box & weaving potholders loom to move elsewhere, from that shelf at the end, into the main office closet. I rarely bead, hate the crafting look in a business office. It's redundant to me, for some reason. The next shelf down has a round decorative scissors wooden caddy in a big basket, on it. There also is an accordion file I never use. I'd like to get the scissors out of here. The bottom shelf has a plastic open-grid bin on it, which is sloppy & untidy. If I move the scissors in the caddy elsewhere, I'd free up the basket, to put the bin papers into the basket. Also, the basket could be used for other things, in the bunny room, making more room on the bottom shelf. I have several file boxes full of photos from DMIL-DFIL's things. Need to sort through them, show DH to see what he wants to keep or let "go" b/c we don't "know" or recognize so many people, as there are no names on the backs of several photos. I "inherited" DMIL's clutter. Once the shelves are 100% done, I'll be happy. Might work on it while dgrson's here, too.

I dusted & dust mopped 2 offices, the bunny room, & dust mopped the hall. I set the dawn simulator early b/c it's the guys' wood-sawing day, so want up early to s2s & get ready. Got out a.m. clothes, made the bed prettier, & put out hot spots & decluttered my end table basket again. I have 2 magazines left to read & pass on to dgrson-15.5 who's also a writer. I crocheted for awhile, have 3 letters to answer, am so tired, so don't know if I'll get to letters tonight or not.

Kathryn , It seems like you've found a temporary solution for the early morning bedroom sunshine glare. Good luck on further settling in, too.
