Around age 4, ds fell/step into a pool's deep end, went to the bottom, kicked off it, surfaced, grabbed onto the edge and climbed out. I was standing less than 10' away, chatting with my two dsil's. None of us heard or saw anything. It was his cousin that came and told us what had happened (all was over by that time.) Drowning isn't noisy - there isn't necessarily a splash or calls for help or thrashing around. I was lucky, as was Mason's mom.
Back from our bus adventure. Aside from getting very wet (it is pouring rain today) it was fun. I figure if it is fun in the rain it will be fun other days as well.
Update on my 10 for the day:
Done! 1. Send VERY IMPORTANT EMAIL
Done! 2. S2S
3. Pay bills
4. Send money to dd for her bikes and to repay her for the car (or at least write the cheque and give it to her this week.)
Done! 5. Take bus to the transit office so I can buy a transit pass (yes, I had to buy tickets to get to ride to the transit office to buy my pass!)
Done! 6. Lunch at chip wagon
Done! 7. Hair cut (and a lot is coming off.)
Done! 8. Bus home and pick up groceries on the way - or send dh for the groceries if I can't walk by then.
9. Sort through the piles of paperwork in the living room
10. Finish unpacking my preaching resources to see how much room I have for things in the bookcase by my desk.
It is nice to see so much accomplished! Didn't bother to pick up groceries for tonight but came up with a meal plan so didn't need to walk farther. My heel is terribly sore now. I have put a foot stool under my desk so I can elevate and work simultaneously. You may recall I bought a new laptop because my old laptop won't connect wirelessly. Dh got it working again just the other day and I thought I'd have a chance to catch up. I'm way behind on paperwork at the moment because I no longer have a wire at my desk to connect with so can't do anything online while working at bookkeeping (i.e. pay bills.) My email in box is out of control as well, 750+ messages because I haven't been able to connect this computer so have been doing everything via web mail. Thus messages haven't been deleted or files.
Anyway, it worked this morning and doesn't work now. Nothing dh can think of will get it to work. Then I realized I could share internet with my new computer so I've connected it wirelessly and am sharing that (wired) to my old computer and am online once more. I'm feeling rather smart at the moment.
I need to feel smart with computers because I've got a big computer project with a deadline in 10 days.
Heavier rain has just moved in and my view has shrunk dramatically. That's okay, it feels cozy up here in the clouds.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
Hello Dear Ladies,
Rain and then sunshine here.
Didn't even turn my computer on yesterday. Was tied up with Dson18.
The insurance has to okay it but looks like July 28th is the date for his procedure. Heart doctor was very nice and informative. For an older person, 50's and beyond they would try meds but they have side effects and it just doesn't work out for a young person. the procedure will get rid of the problem.
So please keep him in your prayers that insurance will okay it.
Just doing some computer work today and taking it easy.
Great day to all!

Shutting down for the afternoon -thundering, dark and starting to rain. Can't believe they got the whole solid awning/roof on next door before this hit.
I did read and dozed some. Guess I'll get dinner going.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
Will pray for ds and you and that the insurance will cover expenses, Sadie.
Ten things - I like that!
x 1. tutoring
x 2. dd18 to the church
x 3. order cake for church kids camp for Friday's snack
/ 4. make butterscotchies for potluck tonight - they're in the oven
/ 5. at least one load of bedding all the way through to put away - washed and dried
/ 6. a.m. routine - this should have been earlier
x 7. call initiative taking band helper - I'm calling this done, even though I didn't speak with her on the phone. The band director emailed, explained some things, said we should try to get uniforms returned before orchestra fittings - at least that helps by one month. I still plugged for early Sept. which is when orchestra parents go in to tag, organize, and put away the uniforms and pull reserved ones.
8. potluck tonight
9. finish emptying suitcase - and put it away
x 10. email small group re: meeting this Saturday
x 11. order 3 dozen bagels to be picked up Th. morning
Scotchies in the oven. I've added an 11th thing to my list - b/c I just did it. I ordered 3 dozen bagels for kids camp staff snack on Thursday. I forgot to order coffee to go with that. . . I'm now going to finish unpacking the suitcase and put that away. And hopefully finish the a.m. routine.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
Sadie - I'm so glad the doctors have a plan for your DS18. Will be keeping you and DFamily in prayers while waiting.
I laid down for an hour and listened to calm music. I'm feeling better now.
DH and I voted in primary election. LO asked about a dozen questions about the voting process. What is a governor? What does a governor do? What do you mean House Representative? etc etc etc etc. A trip to our state capitol needs to happen so we can visually show him where these positions live/work.
Next up -
** process incoming paper stack
** put potatoes on to cook
** Make chicken fried pork steaks
So true! This is the second time I've seen someone almost drown. Both times the person was eerily quiet. And it happens SO FAST! I keep replaying in my head the visual of that Mom jumping over the fence today. I wonder if she could do it when not a life-death situation. I've heard of people doing impossible things like lifting vehicles up when someones life depended on it.Drowning isn't noisy - there isn't necessarily a splash or calls for help or thrashing around. I was lucky, as was Mason's mom.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
Made a lot of phone calls. Not on my to-do list but important. First was to my sister who was just leaving to put her dog down. I wanted her to know that I loved her and hoped she could find peace with this decision. The dog has been tying her down but the decision is based solely on what the dog needs and not to make my sister's life better. That will be a happy benefit but the dog's comfort was the priority.
Second call was to dd to see if we were still on for our day out tomorrow. My music friend and her daughter are coming here at 11 for a visit with my friend's grandson and I needed to know if dd wanted to be here or avoid seeing the baby. She and the mom were best friends at age 4 but now are not in touch because they have nothing in common. Dd does want to be here which I take as a positive sign.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
I'll keep you, (((Sadie & Dson-18))) in my prayers that insurance gives the okay on this procedure for him.
I did 9 things on my list of 10. The 10th item is to log a handwritten short story. I may change my list for this afternoon-evening to:
1- Finish the load of laundry in the dryer, which is the last one.
2- Log the short story in baby steps, although I cannot complete the logging chore in 1 day b/c it's 10 handwritten pages into the margins.
3- Will read & answer Pam's letter.
4- Will read & answer Darlene's letter.
5- Will take a rest period when the laundry's put away.
6- Will tidy up my desktop & office a bit, so everything's put back into place before Wed. Desk Day.
7- Plan out my dinner without a p.m. snack, unless I eat cheddar cheese stick.
8- Check my "to do" list & SHE cards folder.
9- Make any changes to tomorrow's calendar reminders.
10- Work on a list for my Dr., so he has a better idea of what's going on.
I might not edit & come back to this list, if I run out of time. I'll check it though, to see how I'm doing. Since logging the 10-pages of handwriting is "challenging" from sitting in the chair, I'll baby-step the process. I could also leave it for Wed., Desk Day, too.
I'm just not feeling very well this afternoon.
But Tuesday's Tens are super for me.
I was thinking about Tuesday's Tens & other "games" or "Challenges" we could do. I thought it would be fun to try a Five Thrive Day. Like write 5 things you WANT to do, 5 things you've done, & 5 things you MUST do. Making it a 5-5-5 day.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
Yes, my list was probably too ambitious but I am soldiering on!
DONE 1. Trip to neighboring county seat for copies of deeds and filing court report for dsis
DONE 2. Groceries
DONE 3. A.m. routine
4. send email with info for Thursday p.m. meeting
DONE 5. return at Costco (will go by there when I go to county seat)
6. enjoy the book I've been reading
7. refill meds containers
8. move the treadmill in the bonus room so I can use it (may need ds to help when he gets home)
9. call about dmom's meds refill
10. Straighten up porches - the wind blew around the pillows and chairs yesterday
I really did have a productive day at the little county seat, however. Got the report filed for dsis and judge was right there in office so could ask a few questions along the way. Also went upstairs and got a copy of deed for dsis' house and dmom's house. I need to do something to get dmom's house into her name - was never changed after ddad passed away 15 years ago. Talked to judge about that and recommended a local attorney who does that kind of work so I walked over and talked to him. He will do that part for $150 and I think I'm also getting him to do dmom's will along the way. Very nice, small town attorney. He took time to meet with me altho had someone in office when I got there and someone coming in to meet as I left. The judge also expressed that the attorney I had used for dsis' guardianship/conservatorship was very expensive and said that if I brought the papers into the office I could probably get permission for the sale w/o using an attorney at all. Oh, feels so good!
Possible complication is dh but I may just keep him in the dark. He always wants to use someone that he knows, even if it seems they don't much want to do it. The attorney guy that dh knows in this small town never called me back last summer, and I've heard from others and this judge that he really doesn't do this kind of work. The other attorney dh suggests is the one who did the POA for mother, and while he's a great guy he didn't bill me for doing the POA and I hate to ask him to do more work! Also, he's on a board with me and is just very, very busy and when I asked him about the guardianship legal work (almost two years ago) he had to say he didn't have the bandwidth to do it quickly.
Anyway, I am going to get moving again on the rest of my li&t along with cooking myself some supper.
-Purge refrigerator
-Refill meds containers
-call about dmom's meds refills (this is still fall out from the meds she lost the week I was on vacation - we only got a 30 day supply to replace them.)
-send email
Rats. How did I forget that I need a jalapeno pepper to make more peach salsa? It was to go with the salmon tonight.

Re: TUESDAY'S TENS
My ds still believes he nearly drowned. I think he lost hold of a float when we were at a lake with friends. At that point, I believed he could treadwater/swim well enough that I wasn't vigilant but he panicked. The college age son of our friends jumped in and pulled him out. It's hard to know what the reality really was but he felt he was drowning and was pulled out. Oy. Not the highest and proudest moment in my motherhood career.

I'm almost suspicious that the phone call re: dmom's meds went so well. THey had POA info also.
I think I've decided to just find myself something for my supper tonight w/o cooking the salmon.
So this round:
-get ds to help w treadmill
-straighten porches and yard (glad I didn't do earlier, we had another storm blow through...)
-fix myself something to eat
-feed the poor suffering ddogs
-empty the dishwasher
Then....I can read! I'll still need to walk dog boys later if the rain holds off.
