MONSOON MONDAY

Post by DeeClutter »

A lot of us are under very heavy rain today. Hoping you all stay safe and dry if you're under these areas. Know we've had nearly 4" so far and it just keeps raining heavily. Never have seen water standing as much as it is now.
Dh has a physical in an hour. He's already left since we know not what he'll encounter on the way. It's normally a 40 minute drive. Know there's lots of water problems in town and one basement wall has collapsed not far from our old house. So know what DS-A is doing today.

Dh was supposed to work on a severe electrical problem here but I'm sure they won't be doing that this morning. At least they have the power shut off to that area.

I 'chickened' out and didn't go to the Dr with dh -I always do! Actually I spent yesterday under the weather. I'd been sick through the night Saturday and even though we had 4 events scheduled yesterday -I made NONE.

Dh has turned around and coming back home. I would nearly doubt that his Dr will make it in from the other side of the city anyway. We now are closing in on 5" in a hurry. DGS14 stayed overnight at DS-R's last night so is there with dgs9. Means dd doesn't have to try to get from her RV to theirs in all this rain. She is very grateful at the moment! Amazing sometimes how things work out. Think it's thundering so will shut down.

We got some rain overnight, but it wasn't heavy and we need it. It is gray right now, but we're not forecast for more rain for today. Maybe tomorrow afternoon. . .

Are you feeling better today, Dee? --Oh, I hope everyone stays safe with all that rain.

It was interesting to read about Ottawa and biking there, kathryn. You seem to do a good job of biking and walking places.

Dfriends, the physics prof. couple, stayed here last night. It was slightly inconvenient since they asked us pretty last minute and we knew we were arriving in the country maybe 24 hours before their arrival, but we hadn't seen them for over a month and missed the small group good bye party b/c we were in Europe. So, it was also a nice opportunity to say good bye ourselves. They're off today, several stops before they finally end up in Berkeley, CA. Dh will certainly be able to visit him with his travels as he goes to Berkeley fairly often. I hope that is a good place for them. He will be happy and well-adjusted wherever he is, that's the kind of person he is. She is a bit more difficult and finicky. . .

We ate with S and R and baby J 3x this weekend, which was very sweet. They brought over some Mexican food, which we were craving after 2 weeks in Europe, Saturday night. They went to lunch with us after church on Sunday, and then came over for simple dinner Sunday night. After dinner last night, I finished prepping 2 rooms for physics profs; we only have 2 twin beds in 2 different rooms available for guests right now. I offered to put one of them on the floor so they could share a room, but they wanted to do it this way. I also did a light spiff of the upstairs bathroom and cleaned the counter, sink, and toilet of the girls bathroom. That room surely needs some serious attention. . . .

Well, I need to get the household back together today after our travels. Laundry needs to be continued - I've only done 1 load. I need to go to the groc. store as there's really not much to eat here - no sandwich bread or fruit. I need to finish unpacking my suitcase. I need to get some emails out too; I need to put a blurb in the church bulletin as the moms group needs 2 more adult workers for the children's program. I need to figure out when I can go pull the reserved band uniforms. I need to email the small group directions to the state park where we are camping next weekend. . . . Lots going on, as usual.

Also, good news - while in Europe, I did get a call on my resume from the private English Institute that is located on campus. I need to call back the director first thing this a.m. Since he may have called 2 weeks ago, this may result in nothing as he may have moved on to someone else when i didn't return the call in a timely fashion. . . . .

Off to the games I go!!

I got up late - was meaning to be up at 7 and dh even came through and spoke to me at 7 but I just kept sleeping. The curse of Sunday night - I had slept late on Sat and Sun a.m. so difficulty getting to sleep on Sunday evening, then we had a T-storm in the middle of the night and I was up w dMacs.

Need to have breakfast, walk ddogs and get on the road to see dsis. Long day ahead.

Dee, the weather news from your area does seem monsoon-like! Better that he come back home again and have frustration about a drs appt than have anything go wrong out there. Very glad you didn't go with him. Hope Ds-A doesn't have too hard a day.

We were skipped by the a.m. thunderstorm predicted, so I guess we are finally going to dry out here. Even last evening I noticed the ground was still wet, which surprised me. We've certainly had our share of Rain Forest, if not Monsoon, conditions. Strangely, our temps will dip again, a 10-degree drop over these coming weekdays until only a high of 80 Fri. How unusual into August. Today there is a migraine headache warning here (I never understand those predictions, but I look at them like I've just seen a snake).

Best wishes to you today, Twins' Mom. Hope your visit is pleasant.

It didn't rain much here but we are to get rain today.

My sister-in-law was camping on the opposite side of the lake as Dee and apparently they got rain and thunder and now there is no power at the farm field she's camping in (the generator won't start) so no coffee. She is biking with 300 people from Toronto to Montreal (about 400 miles) and yesterday was the first day of the ride. Today is the longest leg of the trip, about 80 miles. Not sure how/if that will happen. She's not tweeting, but enough of the others are that I can get a feel for the trip and I haven't seen a "We're off!" tweet yet.

I'm up. Unloaded the dishwasher, tidied the kitchen, made note of a move-in task to-do (add no-slip to the lazy suzan on top of the fridge so things won't spin off) and have made the bed.

I'm hoping today will be productive but I'm awfully tired.

Rain finally seems to be slowing down a bit -we're up to 5.12". Some places here people can't get out. Saw dh come get one of the camper's big tractors a few minutes ago. Sure they have to make some ditches, etc. The pond opposite us is flooded enough over the road that vehicles can't get through it. Dcampowner is in his 50's and his Dad had this as a Gravel pit and he's never seen it like this in all those years.

Was good that dh turned around Harriet. Some of the roads in our town are closed and there's lots of water problems. the collapsed basement was under a manufactured home.

I am feeling better, Helia -finally. That was some bug! But I'm not going anywhere. Know our rain gauge has never hit 5", not even 3". Not sure dd will be able to get her car out for a while. The main road is very flooded. She was supposed to have dgs14 home this morning. Don't think it will happen. Trying to keep phone charged up in case we lose power. There goes a truck by snapping pictures.

I'm having a morning of normalcy. ☼

All my morning routine accomplished. The Morning Daily Card is completed well, except for some laundry still tumbling dry. I had a good brunch of veggie omelet with a little cheese and bacon.

Now I want to do a Round Robin through the house. 15 mins each in
LR/DR
Kit
Fr bath

bedroom
Mst bath
Office

Will give me 2 hours of general attention to the house after the weekend. 15 min breaks for each 45 of work. POOF

I'm now s2s. Will have to go back and put on a sweater, though, it is chilly today.

There are rain drops on the window but I'm not sure it is raining. It is very windy so I'm not too tempted to bike. My bike is on the balcony (I put it there when we have guests, the rest of the time it has a corner in the living room) and I'm debating bringing it in so it won't be too wet should I decide to go out. I really need a wind gauge (eventually, we'll get the one from the house.)

(((Dee))))

Happy Anniversary to Helia & DH!!

I'm pushing myself to get back to "normal" schedule. My requirements are very low = just make an effort each hour.

This morning I experimented with a low carb recipe - Turnip Gratin. It smells absolutely wonderful. The instructions say it is better after it sits awhile so I'll serve it later today.

B: Smoothie (high protein & fruit)
L: Pork Loin and turnip gratin
D: Lasagna with large salad

Next up -
** LOL hung up to dry
** find/print survey description of MPB
** 3 minutes general tidy in each room
