ANTI-PROCRASTINATION MONDAY

Oh boy, we did it -bought a new car (were looking at 14's but ended up with a '15. Dodge 200. Then not to procrastinate, we talked to our investment counselor and should have the money in our account by next Monday. Meantime, we paid a deposit today and it'll be waiting for us. Dh was not happy with the trade-in, but we had 156,000 miles on this Town 'n Country. And we ended up paying just about what we paid in '07 for this car with 21,000 miles on it. First car I've ever had -we've always had, wagons, vans or mini vans. New experience for me! Trying not to tell the kids till we get it. Had been going to price it out in FL but with our engine light on again for no apparent reason, we didn't dare wait for that. It also would have meant an extra trip down there. So to get through the next week with nothing happening to it. Dh does have to call benefits at the Big Yellow Box tomorrow and get something that says he retired from there to get an additional discount. Or we may be able to do it through his now employer. (K odak was sold to I TT back in '03.

Dh had his eyes checked and when we took the cars out to test drive. He drove about 100' and pulled right off -we'd forgotten his eyes were dilated.

Dh just saw today's title and said, "WELL, we didn't procrastinate, that's for sure". Worst part is when we pick it up next Monday -my eyes will be dilated. So I won't even be able to drive it home. I'm pretty much convinced I'll need cataract surgery so hope we can get that worked in soon after my appointment.

Your friend-thoughts are interesting to me, Kathryn, because I recently had a conversation on this subject with our well guy. This was a very practical conversation on well guy's part, because he says he always needs to keep up with his customers' situation in life, knowing how many are living (or might in future be living) in a home. That makes a difference to recommendations for what to buy/replace to provide water. He hates to spring a big bill on families, but has to do it all the time, so needs to know their situations.

He says adult children either moving back home, not being away from home for school-days or work-days, bringing more family members to the home, or having more children while living at the home, etc. make a big difference in how the water pressure/availability is going to hold up. He says this is just one of many reasons everybody should be paying their way, AND ALSO helping save up for the unexpected, or else the parents' savings is depleted.

Wow, Emptynester, what a bad ankle-experience. What was the diagnosis? I know you have mentioned Uncle Arthur. Was this he? Assuming you get over the trauma from this shot soon, maybe you can go back to square one and get better advice.

Sadie a few years back we had a terrible time convincing insurance co when an inaccurate code had been written down in dr's office. They just can't function when those codes aren't right! I hope you can get them to listen.

The back of my knee was strangly sore today like a kink but did not work out as easily as I hoped it would tripped over my shoes first thing today wondering if that caused it. It is better now. I did manage to get my 10 mi. In on the ex. Bike doing 2-3 at a time between chores. Kink is almost gone now. Got a pen pal letter written and ready to mail.

Home from Wmart, groceries put away, and everyone has eaten. DH & dgs are looking at books right now, before the Braves game begins.
I need to put in a load of laundry.

While at Wmart, got a call from dniece in college town. Every fall it seems it is the same thing -- something w/the cable company b/c I am still the "authorized" user -- even though it has been 6 years since dbil/dsisil took over the bills.
So I had to call the cable company and tell them (again) to PLEASE put dniece's name on the list of authorized users. * sigh *

Also saw my daunt and one of her grandsons at Wmart.

Congratulations on the new car, Dee! New-car smell... nothing like it.

(((Sadie))) I am definitely not pleased w/Obamacare, either. No real changes for us, SO FAR... but ds's insurance has been crazy ever since it started.

Emailed w/dfriend from school... found out her dfil has lung cancer and she has to see a cardiologist, herself, re: unusual EKG...

It is raining here and the house feels chilly now. I guess I'll start the laundry and then "color" for awhile w/dgs. He's into the colors, bringing them to me and having me "verify" the colors. He sorta grunts/mumbles them, but we can tell what he's saying -- for example, "green" ends w/the "green-uh" sound, for the n... and "blue" obviously has one syllable, while "purple" obviously has two. It's kinda like talking to someone who speaks a foreign language...

Oh -- the books I bought -- one is the one you mentioned in the reading thread, FF -- "Hidden Treasures." I also bought "The Husband's Lie" which was on the best-seller lists a while back, I think, and looks like a good suspenseful sort of story, and Joyce Meyer's "Living Beyond Your Feelings," and a new autobiography that has just been published, by Jean Shephard (the Grand Ole Opry star). She has been on the Opry longer than anyone else (58 years, I think).

Looks like Dee did a great job anti-procrastinating the car purchase.

With any luck, we'll be anti-procrastinating the house sale. An offer has just arrived.

CONGRATULATIONS, ON THE CAR, MR. & MRS. DEE!!!

My day's gone from sour to worst, no nap time for me, but laid down 3 times. My Dcat insists that SHE be laying beside me, so threw herself at my bedroom door, scratched it and the floor, meowed, so DH put her in her room. I got up then. Then, I tried to nap in the recliner, but an exciting show about the Roman's conquering Great Britain was on, so got up. Later, I tried laying down again, but left my door ajar this time and "guess who" was right there beside me, all cuteness with cat miles? That's right! Dcat strikes again! I got up, decided to have coffee, write on a letter, got sick, did 2.5 pages, then decided my friend didn't need to "hear this" stuff, and put the papers into burn. NOW I've taken medicine for my stomach, will re-write the start to my Dfriend's letter, and hopefully dinner will agree with me tonight.

There are over 11 fires in Eastern and Central WA State and 4 - 5 wildfires over here, in W. WA State. The forecast is for 98*, but at our house, in the shade right now, it's about 89*. It might not get too much hotter here. Tonight, we're due for T-storms with dry lightning and 30-m. p. h. winds with possible wildfires increasing again!

Oh, the news just said Robin Williams committed suicide. I love that guy, his humor, energy, his talent and everything! He's certainly going to be missed! He was in a very deep depression. Oh, dear. This is sad news indeed.

Well, I'd better go work on my calendar and CUOP. I know this is sorta a quick C. I. Sorry about that.

OH, my heart is so broken with the news of the death of Robin Williams. We always brightened up when we heard he was going to be on a show we were watching. He could be completely embarrassed at a mix up or even mistake, and still keep us totally on his side and happy we watched. I remember his ad-libing when pulled into the "Whose Line Is It, Anyway" program without experience with that group. He was so open and willing to just enjoy, and let others be funny, so interested in them, that he ended up being the one who stole the show.

House appears to be sold. It looks like we got 95% of the asking price but in fact we'll have to pay $16K in commissions and the $23K for the septic system. The kicker is the buyers are the same ones we sold to before.

Their original offer was $424,900. They got over $20K less for their house than they expected and had to pay commissions. So obviously they weren't in the same position as before. But this afternoon they had an agent send in an offer. So that cost us $16,225. Had they sent us the offer from their lawyer, the cost would be $500 and we'd have been happy to share most of that money with them.

Sigh....

The date for conditions to be cleared is August 18. Close day is October 9. That gives ds a month to find a new place to live after he gets back from Alberta.

Harriet: I, too, was stunned. Ds came and told us while we were discussing the offer. It was as if I was punched in the gut. It is so sad that someone who brought laughter to so many could not conquer his own illness and bring laughter to himself. The book I started today is by a Lutheran Priest who started out as a stand-up comic. She was talking of the brokenness that is a common trait among comics in general and how the suicide of one of her friends drew her to become a priest. That friend also chose hanging.

It is very quiet here while we wait for the paperwork to come in. I can't believe the house may actually be sold. I guess that's because I've sold it twice before! Maybe third time's a charm!

BTW: we went out for supper tonight and ds brought his car so we could drop ours off at the dealership. Now it will go in for servicing without me having to get there early in the morning. Yay! And ds will sleep here tomorrow so we can use his car to get ours back in the afternoon (unless the weather is fine, then I'll bike but rain is forecast.)

Our picnic on Wednesday has been cancelled so we are now free that day as well. Good thing since I didn't get any packing for the trip done today.
