Yay! Looked in my tray of envelope 'things' and found one for chili. I'm all set. In the process of getting out tomatoes though I found 2 boxes of elbow macaroni which dd was looking for last week. Evidently she didn't move anything as she looked in that cupboard. Hmmm....she usually doesn't look for something like a guy.

Back home.

The car was ready by 10:30 and so dh and I drove over in ds's car.

I took our car and stopped in at the thrift store. Picked up 7 tops, a dress and a skirt plus a purse for $67! The sizes I had to buy were freaking me out but it gave me a clue as to why I couldn't get a bra to fit in Jan. So I had lunch and then headed off to Wa lmart to shop for a bathing suit (no luck, everything is on clearance and there were no decent suits left) and bras. Got two. The trick was going up 2 sizes. Still couldn't get the style I wanted but I've been getting concerned about only have 2 bras that fit.

Stopped in at the post office outlet on the way home and put the mail on hold for our holiday. So between buying clothes, get the car maintained and holding mail, I've made progress toward the trip preparations. Plus I had some time alone which I think I dearly needed.

Edited to add: I've booked a rental car for ds for the trip. He'll have to take his car for the cottage weekend but then can pick up the rental the day before leaving for NS. They'll be saver and more comfortable. Budget ended up being almost $200 cheaper than any other company. Go figure (they were often the most expensive years ago.)

I need to go over the hotel reservations.

Edited to add: hotels won't be changing since there's nothing else available for the Saturday night. Thankfully we have reservations.

Dinner was simple, just leftover chicken from two nights ago. Dishes are loaded in the dishwasher and the hand dishes are done up.

It is a foggy night so I'm having a cup of tea since it looks miserable outside.

Good Evening, Village Ladies....

This is "supposedly" a quick C. I. We'll shall see....

I got myself into a terrible fix in the master bathroom. First, I took the fluffy blue fan duster on the long pole and dusted the grill over the ceiling fan and down flew dust, getting into my EYES! I put eye gel in, then was fine, but proceeded to dust the light fixtures, which are upside-down half-circle-like bowls, mounted on 2 silver bars on the wall. There are 3 light bowls per silver bar, above each sink. I was 'dusting' off the bar, then baby powder and dust snowed down onto the silver bars. I "KNEW" there must be dust INSIDE those light bowls, which meant bringing in the ladder, cleaning each one by hand. DH did it for me, I kept saying, "FLYLADY said to do it! It's FLYLADY'S fault!" He ended up changing 1 bulb I touched, which went out. It's those little weenie tiny ones. which you hold with a tissue or paper towel, so you don't touch the bulb and ruin it with your skin's oil. That's what we were told. Anyway, later, DH came to me and said that HE, TOO had gotten dust pouring down onto the counter, into the sinks and he made a big mess, too. I did the knobs and handles just fine, dumped the trash in the master bathroom, with no problem at all. DH said it was really dusty up high, I admitted that I don't even *think* about dust way up there, probably "should" and just let it "go".

I did a 2-minute hot spot in my office, then 15 minutes decluttering in the great room and kitchen, ran the DW, and have been journal writing, and reading a devotion catch-up. Wrote a list of titles of stories to do, books and magazines to read, and been in touch with Dsis on and off today, with family "stuff". She's at home, on her day off, in pajamas, "putzing", she called it. *I* call it 'puttering'.

We had winds/showers this a.m., other areas had T-storms, but none here yet. It's been sunny, but it's dark and cloudy again, so the forecast is still for more T-storms tonight and tomorrow. There's another W. WA State fire, too. I don't know about E. WA State. We're avoiding the local Seattle TV news because of the murder of a child, etc.. the arrest, and they keep hammering it home to viewers over and over and over again. Then, with Robin Williams' death, we decided enough was enough. We'll watch National news at 5:30 p.m. and then go back to baseball games. Just needed a "break". DD called last night, I told her about the child and she bluntly said, "THAT'S why I DON"T watch the news! It's so I can get AWAY from that STUFF!" I felt badly I told her then. My SC pen pal mentioned it, as it was on her news and she has a pen pal in the same city where it happened. I guess there's no escaping it, really, until something else new comes along. Maybe we should be watching the WA State National Little League play-offs, with a team from our State in it? Good wholesome entertainment.

I read that the man who wrote the hymn, "Amazing Grace," had dementia in his elder years. He said he knew 2 things, he remembered: He was a great sinner and Jesus was a great Savior. I thought, how sad that a man, who brought such a lovely song to the world, ended up with dementia. DH's Nana had it, was on a locked side of a nursing home, specializing in Alzheimer's and dementia patients. It's such a sad disease. 1 of my old neighbors died of it, he was still married, he was in a home, but he befriended a "girlfriend", as he called her, at the home. The wife, who didn't live there, because she was healthy, knew of the "girlfriend," and was happy he had a friend, although he was married and couldn't remember his wife. She said as long as he was happy, she was happy for him. She still visited him, too.

I hope we don't get lightning tonight, but we'll get what we get when it comes- if it comes. It was nice to see a few light showers this morning. We have 2 does with twin fawns, each, only different ages and sizes. We used to have a doe, years ago, who had twins and it happens often here in the woods. I'm sure it's passed down the blood line, in this family of does.

As I've updated my last post twice, that technically is three posts so I owe a SHEM.

I have a little book that has been sitting beside my computer for the past month with a SHEM marked. The book is the Royal Readers No. 1 and is a primer for students in the equivalent of our grade 1. It was printed in 1941. And was in excellent shape until I got it in water somehow so the top of the pages are water-stained.

Anyway, from page 37:

Before we know it, an entire day of moments have passed. And days, months and another year.

On the Internet, it said Lauren Bacall's passed away. What a lady, terrific actress, and person full of integrity she was. I loved her so much. Her movies with Humphrey Bogart were wonderful, too. ♥ ♥

I'm going to have a microwave dinner this evening, as was ill today, can't really eat the types of foods DH cooks for himself, on the Gastritis Diet, etc... Will do fine with my healthy choice of dinner, might eat spinach salad on the side, too.

No mail came today, DH checked 3 times, so decided to get it tomorrow, in case it ever showed up today. It's 1/4 mile up to the mailbox, he mailed out 2 letters of mine, so at least they went out. It's possible we may not have gotten any. 3 letters, 1 magazine and other items came yesterday.

Just realized I had not posted at all today, except in J&C -- and I do appreciate all the good wishes and prayers for my dcousin. Apparently he is doing as well as possible, lots of pain, but mostly just banged up pretty good. He does have broken ribs and and punctured lung(s) -- not sure if it's one or both -- so that is no small thing, of course... but he is alert, talking, moving arms and legs, so that is a HUGE relief. His parents had a child to die two years before he was born, so the thought of something serious being wrong with him was just almost too much for me to imagine. (He is in his early 20s now.)

Otherwise, we have been to nursing home and then kept dgs the rest of the evening, till about an hour ago.

Allergies are making me crazy.

A tree branch came down in the wind t-storm this afternoon a good sized branch we had the drive way cleared in 45 min. So we can get the cars out. Trailer is full and we have more along the property line to get out of here too. A couple loads at least. Glad we did not lose power or cable. But they need to work on the cable wire again to reattatch it.

I moved some more of the branches out of the way at dusk for another round.

We like movies on dvd, blue ray or net flicks to get away from bad news I try to not do more than 20 min. Of it.

Hi everyone! I unintentionally went on hiatus, my last post was 30 July! For part of that time, my dad was in town and DD12 and I were so busy having fun with him, I never went to the computer except to reserve us a balloon ride. That ride made him want to end his sailboat-less situation. My brother will be ecstatic, my mom, less so, but all of us have considered it inevitable. I had DD for his whole visit. He left this morning and DD left this afternoon. Unfortunately, she left the smell of her feet in my sofa. I kid you not, many times, I have changed a catbox, only to discover the smell was attached to her feet.

Today I have: taken dad to the airport, taken 5 kittens to the vet, found DD's classrooms, eaten Chinese, gone to the park twice and the library. After DD left, I ran numerous LOLs, weeded in front, cleaned the front door, took the trash and recycles to the curb, started catching up on email (still lots to go), done cat care and me care. It is 10 pm and I really want to go to bed. However, I still have to get meds into 5 kittens (easy - canned food), and one adult cat (who doesn't like canned food). The kittens have GI issues, the adult, a 14yo, has a skin allergy, which is likely due to a change in laundry soap (she sleeps on the bed). Different soap has been purchased. If that does turn out to be the cause, I have a very large, almost full, container of laundry soap to get rid of. I hope the church's free store can take it, I am not sure if they can take partially used stuff.

I have a long list of stuff to do, most of which will not be done tonight.

Kathryn: Have DS check his credit report for errors. That may be why he is having trouble qualifying for a mortgage.

FelineFriend: Yes, it is sad that the author ended up with dementia, but your account gives me a great deal of hope. I do not ever want to return to not knowing my Savior. I often pray that, even if I remember nothing and no one else, that I remember Him.

Hey, Elizabeth. Been missing you.

Girls with stinky feet - in my long girl-rearing experience sometimes it's due to liking only certain fashion or style of socks and not others, so that they sneak and wear the same ones for several days, or losing socks and not having enough to change daily. Also, not wanting to wear socks but being determined to wear the same shoes, and therefore going without socks, so that shoes and feet keep exchanging the bacteria/odor, back and forth, with no absorbent cotton to help break the cycle. In short, a supply of cotton socks they WILL wear is a big help. Getting the feet into sunshine, soles up, will also help (UV rays naturally kill bacteria in sweat that causes odor).

Hi everyone. Dh & I had a long nap late in the day. He set his phone alarm for us but messed up somewhere & it didn't go off. So here I am, up past midnight. My new schedule is working out most of the time, although late nights like this often throw off my momentum the next day. I'm using the same Basic Week Plan I had before summer started. Still not getting to lots of the monthly zone chores but will make more of an effort next month. In P&Ps Happiness File book September was the chapter on work, & getting back into a routine after a more relaxing summer schedule.

Interesting discussion on internet & privacy concerns. I've always been somewhat vague about dh & I & our activities when posting here. I leave a lot unsaid. I've never shared this before but I believe that someone I know well in real life knows who I am here. A while ago on two different occassions she asked a few casual questions about things I had posted. I realized later that while it might have been a coincidence, one particular thing could not have been. I don't mind if she reads here, I just mind feeling like I might be being secretly watched. I think that's part of why I'm not here as much as I used to be, & why I've been posting less.

Hard to believe school is already starting for some of you. In my neck of the woods school always starts in Sept after Labor Day. We still get a Sunday paper & the other day it was packed with back-to-school ads.

Hope your eyes are OK after their dusting, Feline Friend. (Achoo! ) A few years ago I started using my vacuum wand with the little brush on the end to suck the dust off the lights & fan vents in the bathrooms. Works well -- & even better when I enlist dh help, since he can reach higher than me . We just have to be careful not to knock the glass globes off the lamps.
