What piece of wisdom can you share?

One of my favourite life lessons (that took me way too long to learn) is:

A dirty but tidy room will look much cleaner than a messy but clean room.

which leads to the "life's unfair" piece of wisdom.

For years, I followed the SHE system and you could eat off the floor under my fridge. (Maybe not in front of the fridge, but definitely, under the fridge!) Yet my house was always a disaster. When I finally had to tidy for the cleaning lady to clean, I learned that above wisdom and now I let it guide my efforts when I don't have enough time or energy to both clean and tidy. Tidying gets me bigger 'bang for my buck' than cleaning and I feel better about my surroundings.

I'm up. I think I slept well. I'm enjoying listening to the waves. And watching the water sparkle. There's a whiff of wood smoke in the air, and of course, the sea air. At this point in the day, there are no sounds from humans, except dh eating his breakfast behind me.

The new layout of the cabin is lovely. We also seem to have upgraded amenities, although I'll check that with ds' cabin later today. I'm wearing a lovely terry robe. This is a special cabin so I suspect it has extra touches that the other cabins don't have. That's ok, I'm certainly paying for them.

I'm slowly becoming accustom to the new layout of the lodge and resort. We miss an ocean front path that is now missing in front of the lodge. Can't really figure out why they took it out, either.

I enjoyed the new pool last night. Last year it was dark blue and you couldn't see the bottom, nor people swimming under water or drowning. They've repainted it light blue this year and it is far less scary. I did 20 minutes in it and then 5 in the hot tub. The shower area is lovely but the shower water is just a trickle. I did wash my hair after but it was a lot of work so am not sure I'll do that again. The advantage is that I can just sponge bath this morning.

There are a lot of nice touches for families with children. But the lodge doesn't have the same comfortable coziness that used to draw us there all the time. Ds only did a quick walk through.

We have booked dinner there tomorrow night and have a great table with a view in a quieter corner. They've also done noise abatement in the dining room but it is still very noisy. And we were there at 9 p.m. last night to check it out.

Our favourite server has moved to our favourite pizza place so dh called last night and found out she'll be working Friday night so we'll have pizza on Friday. Saturday will be the Seaside Seafood Diner.

Tonight's dinner will be pork chops. I thought we had a bbq but we don't so now I have to figure out how to cook it. I suppose we can broil it. The oven here is very nice and reminds us how awful our oven is at the apartment. Sigh.... Maybe I'll pull out that oven and put in a new one.

My tea and chocolate is done so I'll get dressed for the day and have my cereal and fruit. We've told TGF that she can sleep in until noon or even later if she wishes. Poor thing was up at 4 a.m. to fly to us last Thursday, then Friday was up at 7, Saturday and Sunday I don't know what time she was up but they were at a cottage party so not much sleep, Monday they left at 7 a.m. so were up earlier and Tuesday they left at 8 a.m. So she is exhausted and deserves a good long rest. Hopefully, ds won't be dragging her all over the place.

Good Wisdom, KIC!!!.

While living in our RV, I learned it is better to put things away where they belong than trying to find them after a stash and dash. I also learned that I don't need so much "stuff" - especially clothes. I only wear a small percentage of what I own - so why have so much.

I am up early working on loading software on the new computer. I am slowly learning how to work around WIN 8.1 and all the junk that comes loaded at the factory. I am debating about returning the computer we haven't opened yet (the one for DH) and buy one with a few more physical features (like a disk drive) for me.

DH and Dog are both up now so it is time for our walk. TTFN

Lynlee - it was wisdom that you realized the remarks about what you had not yet done were said in ignorance, and that sort of thing can't be helped. HRH is fond of saying that ignorance is not a failure - it is not having been taught any better. Glad you were not deterred and have kept on keeping on. Sounds like you're really accomplishing a lot. So good that ddog has nothing alarming going on with health, but a long life.

Elizabeth, lots of new job possibilities, then - that's encouraging. Animal org meeting with city gov. folks? Hmmm... ... I'm sure that can be stressful.

Reminder at our bday dinner table about wisdom:
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato into a fruit salad.

My wisdom given to many widows after my late dh's death was to accept and appreciate the grief because it is an extension of the marriage. I was able to share that one more time at class reunion the other day with a newly widowed friend, as the two of us quietly became teary together. Further wisdom was offered by our attentive hostess, who quickly broke it up as though it were a fight. (smile) "Alright you two, no more of that. It's a party!" Quite right.

Wisdom. . . . Good tidbits, Kathryn and MT. I'll have to come back with my own. I still remember Harriet's mother's word of wisdom along the lines of: Just because someone needs to hear something doesn't mean you need to be the one to say it.

Thanks for the explanation bookie and for reposting the link Harriet. Wonderful idea! I don't think my girls would bother to do that, though. Their wardrobes aren't that varied.

Twins, this Jewish community calls themselves a congregation, but they also say they are conservative - and I know that from talking with my Jewish friends. But they also are egalitarian, which seems less conservative to me?? I can just ask in Hebrew class sometime.

Well, I am awake. We are about 45 minutes outside of Memphis right now. Ds and I drove until about 10 pm b/c we left Austin at 10:30 a.m. It took us a good 7.5 hours to get out of Texas. I had forgotten how huge a state it is! And we were starting in the middle. Though, we did take the alternate route, which had no construction or traffic jams - but did have a lot of slower speed limits and stoplights/signs in the little towns we went through. I'm not sure it was faster in the end.

It occurred to me during our drive yesterday, that I could have organized out trip differently and taken the route through Oklahoma and met LadyM and LO. She and LO could have met ds, who is a very sweet friendly guy. Why don't these things occur to me at a good time???

OK, I'm off to s2s now. We are seeing my family in central Illinois tonight, so I want to get an earlier start to allow more time with them. It should be about a 7 hour trip.

helia, you are nearly exact. She would say, "Just because somebody needs to be told something doesn't mean you have to be the one to tell them."

My, we are having a very quiet day in the village. I already finished my laundry, ran my errands and met HRH for brunch. (Possibly a bad idea since he was disappointed in service. I shared the In Canadas' decision to go to the pizza place, then, if the waitress who was a favorite was serving there instead of the restaurant.)

Picked up the supplement I was missing. I was amused that I found the item while the vitamin staff searched their computer base. But the fact there was only one left may not be good news, since they tell me that sometimes means they won't be carrying in the future. I may have to go back to online ordering after all.

We have a mini-emergency here. Chickens are refusing to exit their house because of a new predatory bird, I think. Great big thing - huge wing span. Beyond the size of our local hawks, I worry that this is an ill-advised release from a raptor center, or a release by someone who tried to take it to the center and was refused. This has happened before and it messes with the wildlife and the chickens. This one had sat near the henhouse for a long time, we fear, until we realized it and chased it off. We know it can't get in the pen, but the chickens can't bear to be in its presence, of course. They need to be out of the oven of the house and get water.

Time to track my daughter down. She spent the night with a friend and has another friend hoping to come over here for a night. Sigh. Everyone is in rush mode for last-chance get-togethers, with school days bearing down.

A letter from principal arrived. Two small-typed pages, very little margin, heading or footer space. I've read it once, but it's from a school administrator so I need to read again for comprehension. Okay, now that was funny I don't care who you are.

Harriet hope your hen woes are resolved soon. I put fresh chick waterers in the coop last night. Chicks are fine. Dgd is here toddlerN just arrived. Muffins in the tummy were yummy!

Good morning (barely) everyone! My bit of wisdom comes from FlyLady: Perfectionism is a disease. The X considered it a virtue and it caused no end of problems between us. Why bother trying to please someone who is incapable of being pleased? After a while, I didn't bother.

I got up ridiculously late and my eating schedule is off, and am starting a migraine thanks to that laziness. I have taken meds and it will go away, but prevention would have been so much better for me. I called a friend for lunch (I am having SUCH a Mongolian beef craving), but she can't make it. We are having lunch tomorrow instead. I called another friend for lunch but have not heard back. Although, I have gotten very little done today, I have put medicine into cats. Prince William (not named after the more famous prince) is not happy with his isolation treatment.

Gotta go! There are 90+ IT Applications Developer positions for me to examine and apply to!

Morning ya'll...

I've spent a good part of my morning unsubscribing and deleting emails from several of my accounts. I dreaded doing it because I knew it would eat up my morning time, but it needed to be done. Now I need to spend a bit more time at my desk and then its on to finish my house blessings.

I escaped most of the rains in the area as I am on the very east edge of the Phoenix area. However what is being played on the news could very well happen in my part of the desert. Yesterday's storm flew over the western section of the area and headed north...sort of where MT is. My area only received .4 inches of rain, while the hardest hit areas had almost 6.5 inches. To help ya'll understand the severity of the situation, ya'll need to know the yearly total rainfall for our area is 7".

This is a picture of a simple desert wash....they are found everywhere and remain dry until the rain falls, then they fill up and can become rolling rivers in an instant. Some of these washes have been here much longer than the cities they are found in.

There a reason when these washes and roads fill up with water that someone came up with the saying...Don't drown, turn around"

We have 2 washes in our park. We have the main ditch and the "Son of the Ditch". They have been built up and lined with stone so they don't get any wider. During most of the summer we had workmen reinforcing two of the culverts with huge wire baskets filled with rock to repair some of the places it washed out last summer.

Yesterday, just after the rain, I went down to see what the ditches running looked like. It was really quiet and I could hear the stones from upstream clicking on each other as they washed down (they weren't in wire baskets). These stones are about the size of a 10 lb. bag of flour. The water rushing down the ditch can easily move them - thus the clicking sounds.

This morning there isn't a drop of water to be found. No clouds in the sky - but the weather is still cool - only about 85.

I have washed one load of clothes but haven't done any other housework. I have just been trying to set up this new computer. I'm getting used to WIN 8.1 but still can't find some of my old favorite functions. I need to move bookmarks and email address over from the old computer plus some of my document files. I was able to download Firefox, AVG, Thunderbird, and Open Office. Only need S&T and I will be good to go with software. I'm doing more and more on my phone and Kindle so less on the computer.
