Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
Dee: Once the S*** starts to fly I shall switch to walking since I'm healing all the time and managed the 1 mile walk on Monday with no ill effects. The majority of what I need is withing 2/3 of a mile. Today I was just 1.2 miles to the bank and the postal outlet. Looked at moving our safety deposit box to the bank but they don't have parking, so that won't work for us in the winter unless we are up for the walk (that depends on the temperature.) There's another branch near the library that does have parking and I often have errands up there so it will be more convenient. They are also a new branch so will likely have a box in our size (I was having to go down a size at our local branch.)
Today is it only 50 but I was plenty warm in my new jacket (and looked chic since it matches my helmet!) When it gets cold enough to need a hat, I have a 'Buff' that will go on under my helmet for warmth and cover my ears. It is really just ice and snow that will keep me from biking. And heavy rain.
Met a lady in the elevator carrying a dessert. My mom always made the Christies chocolate wafer and Dream Whip 'yule log' but this lady did the same thing ingredients in an 8x8 pan in layers. The log is finicky to get together, this looked as easy as could be and would taste just as good. I've filed that away in my head for future pot lucks.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
Hi all! I'm just letting you know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. With payroll each day + prepping to teach the moms group tomorrow (about 60 women showed up last week
) + taking care of child care and curriculum issues for the moms group (I need to get the child care coordinator up to speed for next year. I'm doing part of her job.) + extra beginning of the year type meetings at the high school (one M night, one more tonight) and work, I'm finding that I literally have to plan out what I'm doing hour by hour each day to get enough done. Prep for work is still taking me a good bit of time each day, but I'm enjoying it! I'm also being diligent with jogging, have gone every other day since Saturday. I'll probably skip Friday and go Saturday instead. I've lost a couple pounds, so I'm pleased! And I've still been able to put home cooked meals on the table each night, a priority for me - and apparently for dh as he asked if I would still be cooking once I started working. LOL! I don't get home until 6 pm, so getting dinner has been a bit tricky at times. I use my crockpot sometimes, and Dh has also been very helpful. He cooked last night.
Next week should be more sane with fewer start up issues with the moms group, fewer/no start up meetings at work or the high school, and I'm not teaching at the moms group next week.
I now have about 2:15 to work on the moms group teaching, so I'd better go again.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
The heat is on!
No sign, no fanfare, no radiator checking.
I was sitting in the dining room and all of sudden the fan came on the radiator. Sure enough, it was blowing out hot air. One by one, each of the fans came on through the apartment (all the thermostats were set to about 75 to stop the a/c from being on all the time but currently the apartment is about 68 so the thermostats triggered the fans.) I'm fascinated that there wasn't some sort of switch we had to pull for the thermostat.
It also begs the question, if we are away when the cooling is turned on, will our thermostat settings of 15 (to keep the fans off while we aren't at home) act as a/c settings? If so, we could return to a very cold apartment.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
Good Morning! I am so laughing at myself.
I started to read Kathryn's post "When the S*** starts to fly" and I gulped and then thought NO! Kathryn would not write that
Then I remembered that we always say "before the snow starts to fly" when we want to get across the Sierras to San Jose. Oh well!
Today is my appointment with my GI to find the results of the test I did last week. I am hoping there is something he can do. (More later in the health place.)
Does anyone check the other site? I have been posting a bit on there. When Starrball had her 4th - yes 4th - boy a few weeks ago a lot of the old members have been chiming in. Nice to see them. ZY, one of my favorites and Cathie in Eugene whom was one of the 4 at my house for the second ever SheFest. Good to see them all. It has been a long time ago when the first website with Pam and Peggy started. So many people and I wonder what has happened to them all. I have a feeling FB took over.
Rosie, I am glad you are back and will check with you soon. Mr. Guy and Sweetie have messaged. Those funny guys.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
I had the same thought as Norma when I read K in C's post untill I relized the last letter was W! LOL!
I have 2 loads in the washer twins now. Have baked 2 batches of cookies. I realized that forgot about the grated carrots for the other batch so one more to do. I froze some up. I think these will just be dough for now.
I told h. We should not think about jeep until lights are fixed the next nite he says we need to call dd again I said I did 2x so call sil next. H. Needs a head light in the truck too he couldn't figure out how to get apart (it is a ford). He said the red stick shift jeep price went down $1,000.oo in price. He found a white one hope it is an automatic, for sale too. We wanted a red, white, or blue one with a hard top. So I suspect he will be checking those out while I am at my spinning meeting this weekend.
Called sil about wiring and said not today but tomorrow an he will look at it.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
It's 63.9* here, sprinkles and showers are on the way. DH is taking a shower now, will mail my mail and a bill, then I'll start LOL. I'd like to strip the bed to make it with fresh sheets from the linen cupboard, too. Been bleaching sheets with each load, with a "green" bleach. The sheets are looking a LOT nicer!
So Far:
* dumped the household trash; garbage pick-up tomorrow.
* printed an Outbox (stuck) email, to dcousin-in-law and added to it, to mail it to her as a letter.
* had QT, ate, did pills and supplements
* made the bed, in case we don't strip it and remake it.
* did QVAR, checked my Today's "Hit List" to do's.
* made coffee
* replied to 1 email
* put dirty laundry in the utility room laundry basket to sort and wash later
Will:
* do LOL
* change the bed sheets?
* write snail mail letters
* read a published story aloud to DH for him and me to hear.
* will sort the mail when it arrives
* will work on a short story, perhaps? It's at least started and I'm on page 2.
* will try to start crocheting a teapot cozy
This is just a quick hello! Have a Worthwhile Wednesday, Everybody! GR8 lead-in today, Harriet!
EDIT:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLESSEDw2!!!
I just looked up special dates and "see you" listed. Have an excellent b-day today, all day, and many more!

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
I have the last batch of cookies pb. ch. Chip mixed up last pan is in the oven now.
Wondering if I need to wrap and label them like beef tongue, liver, kidney, heart etc. To keep sticky fingers out of them like CEO recomends.
Last batch of cookies is now in the freezer.
Net is cutting in and out today making it a challenge to post and watch net flicks.
Time to check the laundry again now. X

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
I picked up LO school work and visited with his teacher about the bathroom privacy needs. She is very easy going and eager to make sure LO return is as smooth as possible. She is going to send LO to another bathroom down the hall that will give him privacy. LO classmates surrounded me today asking about LO and when he is coming back. We are telling them LO had a procedure and is home while he gets better. Several of them got a curious look on their faces, but none of them asked what a "procedure" was. They are making him "Get Well" cards.
I am looking forward to getting back to my regular schedule, but I am thankful that is all I have to complain about.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
Sorry to raise eyebrows! And I do say the other word. Just not here!
Ds got the apartment, on his own without me having to co-sign. The rental agent is very nice. She gave us the keys so ds could show me. It is quite large, amazing view (not amazing like mine but probably better than 80% of the apartments in Ottawa). Because of the angle of his building we can't see his apartment but his view is of the same river and the bay with the sail boats I can see far in the distance. It is only a couple of minutes from work for him. Groceries aren't far away either although the walk is rough to get to them (major intersection.) It is 12 minutes by car from our place along the parkway (which means a LOT longer during rush hour.) We've biked that far before as well and it is bike path almost the whole way.
There are two bedrooms. If he takes the smaller one, we'll share the larger for storage. The other advantage to the second bedroom is that isn't against a shared wall which might help when he's sleeping days. Brand new carpet, good sized kitchen with more counter space than I had before we added a counter. And a dishwasher!!!
The balconies are being worked on so there will be noise during the day until the snow flies, but I told him he could sleep at our place if it is unmanageable. He gets $30/month off because of that.
There is a huge laundry room in the basement and reasonable price for the machines, $2 each. But he'll probably come here. There are two squash courts, exercise machines, and a billiards room in the basement and tennis courts outside.
He'll need a couch and chair but should be fine for other furniture until TGF comes and she can pick up things to her taste. She's already approved the couch purchase (it is IKEA and converts to a bed.)
I'm over the moon happy for him.
Dh missed his movie this afternoon because he could hear our neighbour's smoke alarm as he walked by and had to call it in. He actually thought he'd make it but didn't (and I had the car.)
Ds and I went out after to IKEA and then I did the grocery shopping, price matching as much as I could. I'm exhausted now but have walked over 11K steps so there's a good reason. We've ordered in pizza for dinner.
Ds is quite sick and I'm not sure how he'll manage an overnight shift. He can't stay out of bed for more than a few hours at a time right now and is starting 4 in a row. He's on the emergency list to get an doctor's appointment tomorrow. Right now he's napping here.

Re: Worthwhile Wednesday
(((KIC's ds))) -hope he feels better real soon. Kathryn, I am feeling your same angst at large expenditures. There's a very large one looming this week that we weren't expecting. My stomach immediately started tying in knots, etc, etc. I foresee another somewhat sleepless night. Think I need prayer for calm. Dh will be talking with his financial advisor first thing tomorrow morning -she'd already left when he called today.
I missed it! I don't believe it! I never looked at that special dates list this morning and have been busy every since. Well haven't really missed the day entirely, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLESSEDW2! May your day be like you --blessed!
