Do you need a time to plan a 'session'? Just take even 10 minutes on that project today and see how far you get.
I got up at 5:38 & used the bathroom, went back to bed for a little over 20 minutes. Got up to see how dh had made out with our new k-cup coffee brewer. I had neglected to put water in last night. Put the cup in but had not pushed it down (deliberately). Dh did but evidently didn't push it in enough. After he added the needed water it hadn't brewed so he put the water back in and pushed it down further. Wallah! Coffee! I have the big pot ready to brew when everyone comes over this morning. But still haven't added that water since it's the same reservoir. Besides dd mentioned that perhaps it's not quite hot enough for us because our water is so cold. So will start with warmer water this morning. Figure a whole pot for all the big people today.
DD and dgs9 had picked blackberries when she was here this summer and she was going to make cobbler. On the way to get groceries yesterday she decided to try making blackberry syrup (we're having waffles, bacon & sausage here this morning about 9 I guess). Well we bought the supplies and she tried straining the berries to rid it of seeds. Bought cheesecloth & that didn't work -all my colanders had too big holes. She finally (since we couldn't find a mesh strainer -note to self: buy one) strained them through my splatter guard. She took all the pots, dishes, etc out to rinse them. I just finished doing up supper and all those dishes. Expect everyone to show up in about an hour. DD brought over the mix for waffles last night, I have sausage & bacon thawing and have the waffle iron out. Also have the RV picked up from everyone being here for dinner last night -albeit too late. (Note to FF: my BS was up to 125 this morning & I'm sure it's because we ate so late).
Think I'll get my bed made. But may wait to get dressed for a bit. We have the wedding today but don't have to go there until about 4:30.
Tomorrow everyone is coming for a steak dinner. Celebrating the later summer birthdays and dd being here. She has to be at the airport at 5. She kept saying, "but Mom, my flight leaves at 5:20". I finally looked up the flight change for her on my email. Not only is it leaving at almost 6pm, BUT she realized they'd also changed the route. She was supposed to fly into LaGuardia in NY and now it's Atlanta. Has her getting in 1 minute later than she was scheduled before. She left her car at the airport in Orlando so will be able to just drive home without dsonil having to drive there late at night. Think it cost $14 for her to park since Wednesday afternoon.
Time to get the bed made.

DD is here and we've begun breakfast session. At least the bacon's in the oven and sausage in a frying pan. She's now mixing up the waffle mix right now. DS-R & family have gone to take showers.
DDIL#1 has been very tired. She and 5 others drove to the funeral service in PA for the State Policeman who was shot and killed last week. Know she had to be up and about by 3 and they weren't home till about 9:30 that night.

I don't care how many blackberries were picked, if I was there, there would not be enough to make syrup! (Cobbler, maybe, but not syrup!)
I had a rough night. So much for going to bed early. Got up just after 7 though (normally, I'm in bed later) and the bedroom is tidied, dishwasher is emptied, visited with ds, and clean laundry has been put away. Still two more loads to do.
I'm having my tea and chocolate now.
Ds is settled into bed until 1 (he's been up just 14 hours at this point) and then he'll sleep the evening away as well before his 11:00 p.m. shift. There's a friend visiting from out of town so he's going to visit with her in the afternoon when she's free.
<skippable just getting my thoughts down>
His shift last night was very stressful for the first half. He has two positions, one part time (6 hours overnight admin break coverage all over the hospital), one casual (8 hours, evening or overnight general admin in the ER, assigning beds or working the switchboard.) The part-time position is a new one just created and is shared between two people (that's why it is only part time.) Last night he was working ER admission but then his part-time counterpart took ill and was sent from her shift to the ER for cardiac observation. So they were short-staffed and ds was the only one who knew her job so he ended up doing two. Plus the ER was busy.
He said people may have died yesterday but they didn't get discharged from the hospital until today because it was too busy to process their paperwork. It became a catch-22, he had people to admit but to do so he had to move people out of the ER but to do so they had to move to rooms and he had dead people in beds and he had no time to process them. The head nurse complained and he said told her "whichever I do, you'll be mad at me since if I focus on moving the dead, then people can't get in to be seen in the ER because they won't be registered! If I keep registering people, then things will stack up in the ER. You choose." By 2:30 things calmed down and he took his 30 minute break sitting with his co-worker in the cardiac area of the ER since she couldn't rest. They never see each other because they are on opposite shifts, so that gave them a chance to catch up. This new position isn't working out too well. It is an experiment until February and they both feel it will be dropped at that point.
At least none of the deaths were traumatic and there was no drama, it was just volume of work. It is funny to hear about him talk about work sometimes. He started our conversation saying it was really hectic but no deaths, then he started talking about the dead people. When I questioned him on that, he said they were 'regular dead' (people expiring after having been admitted so out of his awareness of their circumstances and probably older people) not people he may have dealt with in the ER (those are the ones that he finds traumatic.)
He has a short shift change tomorrow (off at 7 back at 4 p.m.) and then Mon, Tuesday he has his regular 6 hour overnight shifts. That makes 7 shifts in a row with 6 of them being night shifts. No wonder he and his co-worker have to struggle with keeping healthy.

While eating, I'll go over the sermon draft and fix it (there's a bit in the middle that needs to be shortened, or if I can't summarize it, deleted and some other observation put in.) I'm having trouble reconciling what we call the Protestant work-ethic with this week's reading (the landowner who keeps hiring people through the day but at the end of the day pays everyone the same, no matter how long they worked.) How did we get from that description of the Kingdom of God by Jesus, to a mind-set that finds that lesson so offensive?

Good Morning All.
This will have to be quick as I have to fill DH's pill container for this morning's meds. Somehow he either took morning meds at night or took them twice as I still have this morning's left and his container is empty.
It is a beautiful quiet morning with just a slight breeze. Everything smells fresh vs. the usual dusty smell of summer here in the desert. The coyotes are singing so Dakota was quite eager to go out.
Kathryn - isn't that parable more about the forgiveness of sin no matter when we repent more than just the story of working in the vineyard. I think I have heard it preached that way a couple of times.
LM - how is our boy doing? Hoping he is much better.

DD actually ended up with 3 (sealed) pints of blackberry syrup, Kathryn. It's ended up pretty sweet. Was very good. We only used a small portion of 1 pint. She's giving one each to our DSs and families. Waffles were good!

Mt They've heard it preached that way, probably over and over. Still it is difficult for some to accept since someone who has a sinful life, making bad choices with no thought for himself or others gets the same measure of grace as someone who consciously led an upright life. In theory, I'm preaching to the latter (or at least they think of themselves that way!)
But there's also the subtext of who got chosen, when and why. I think of Home Depot parking lots with the cluster of workers on the edge, hoping contractors will stop and pick them up for a day's work. Who are the ones picked first? Why are the others left behind?
It isn't as if the workers come to the landowner (i.e. asking forgiveness), the landowner picks the workers. What does that subtle difference mean?
My notes on this one will go a long way to helping me write a full sermon on it some day (at this point, I'm limited to 1000 words which barely scratch the surface of one aspect of the description of God's Kingdom.)
I've s2s and sung through half the set for Monday and Tuesday with dh. Had him pitch up my piece since it is way too low for me. That solved half my breath issues. I'm still missing harmonies for a lot of the pieces but that doesn't matter because the tenor has them.
I need to work on the kitchen now because that leads to the laundry.
Ooops, I'll spend 30 on the sermon (I read it over before my shower and made a few notes I need to implement.)

MT, I saw the pm last night but didn't respond - it was LM's weight loss tracking worksheet I was wanting, but I did an online search and found one I could download, so I'm good. Sorry for the misunderstanding and non reply!
I was up very early this morning but still left home late for two hour fifteen minute drive to this conference. Some parts so far very good - right now it feels like an Ancestry.com advertisement for DNA testing tho.
The hold up this morning was that I walked Moses early and found some overnight neighborhood damage by vandals. I chose to report so had to wait around for police to take info, not that they can really do anything. Sorry if TMI but appears to be human feces on a sidewalk, along with toilet paper in trees, etc. I wouldn't just the TP damage, but the sidewalk material crossed the line for me.
I left a key under the doormat for dneighbor to let ddogs out to stretch later, and the will also feed them later.

Twins' Mom, that sounds like very nice decorating through the house. I'm sure dh will notice and like it when he gets back. Oh - reading your last post - sorry to hear you had to report that on your walk.
We have the second of an annual event nearby today that is probably causing ANGER. It is a shooting event with charitable causes benefiting. But if I were a third shift worker, or just someone who had wanted to sleep in on a Saturday morning, or with children who wanted to play in the yard, or wanting to open windows rather than run the AC, I would be mad. I don't see how they can get away with it. We are not too close, but there is a whole development of houses quite close.
I don't mind shooting, usually, but this is a lot. Last year my uncle (who actually has poor hearing) beside us, complained to us and asked what it was, and I honestly thought it was the very start of dove season. He said it didn't sound like dove hunting to him, and he was right - not just sometimes but constant. I bet other people are also just now realizing this is a huge annual event the community is supposed to accept - and everybody ain't as agreeable as me... ...
