Today, the morning will be rush, rush, rush. Probably a bit of the afternoon, too.
Then, my friend will come and we have a walk along the river planned, the turkey will cook itself in my absence (God willing!), dh will start the ham to heat while we are out and pick up dd and dsil, and then there will be wonderful, laughter-filled, chaos as we all work towards getting the meal on the table, approximately in one piece at the same time. (Having a dog underfoot makes me a bit nervous but on the plus side, she should clean up any spills before they get tracked throughout the apartment!)
I have warming trays, an extra counter top oven, my current oven is larger than my old one and it is cool today so I can use coolers on the balcony to expand the size of the fridge.
Dh fixed the blown fuse and we've permanently run an extension cord from the dining room to the appliance shelves in the kitchen so I can run microwave and counter top oven at the same time.
The table is becoming set (I'm at the "pull out and label each dish to be used" stage) and I've made the cranberry sauce. Three more items to make (cookies, cornbread, dressing for the salad) and then the turkey will go into the oven. I need to start that in 3 hours so I need to get moving so the oven is free by then.
Today I have to call snd see if the insurance place is open so we can get the jeep on the policy. I want to go to the book store and the fruit stand for theur pumpkin patch too. Hens are not fed yet.

Cornbread joins the cranberry sauce in the made pile.
Cookies are mixed and chilling in the fridge. Oven is cooling down from 450 to 325 for the cookies.
The silver is stacked, ready to polish.
Dh is making lovely place setting cards using calligraphy so people know where to sit (the chairs are iffy in some cases and I've added cushions for those who are vertically challenged.)

Happy Thanksgiving Day, Kathryn, your dinner party sounds like it is coming together so nicely. I love the place cards - I used to make place cards for dkids to decorate and figure out who was sitting where (with a little adult guidance) so everyone knew where to sit - kept them busy for awhile too!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to our Canadian friends.
DH and I took my car to the mechanic's last night so they can check out a few problems today. It made us nervous to leave it there overnight even though I put the key in a drop box on the door, because it looked to me like if someone were really determined to fish the keys out through the slot in the drop box, it wouldn't be that hard. However, my car is a 2001 which is ancient by today's standards. I finally told DH to look on the bright side, if someone steals the car that would mean we could get a new one sooner than planned.
I am sticking close to the phone because they are supposed to call me with an estimate on the 4 fixes. 2 of the 4 are annoying rather than urgent -- the driver's side inside door handle broke off last winter, and the trunk lid was jammed shut for awhile but then apparently wiggled itself loose again. The other 2 are more serious but hopefully not terribly expensive -- check engine light for something in the emission system, and the lights for the rear license plate don't work but the bulbs are not burnt out.
The thing is, we don't have a cordless phone, only the hardwired one that's on my desk. They already have our landline number in their file, that's why I put it on the note I left with the key. If they don't call pretty soon, though, I'm going to have to call them to give them my cell phone number. There are only so many hours I can stay chained to my desk waiting on a call. I mean, it's fun to sit and watch youtube videos all day, but I also need to do laundry and get ready for a 4 day trip out of town!
Good Morning to All! I would love to send some sunshine to you, Twins', and all who have chilly, damp weather now. We are supposed to be around 90* today!
We had an early school run with dgd12 this morning. I slept good last night and was up early enough to get the bed made and bedroom picked up, ate breakfast and KP duty done. I left the hot dishwater for dh to wash up his dishes. We stopped at P.O. on the way home to drop off some bills paid. I fed doggies when we got home while dh fixed his breakfast and I'm now enjoying a second cup of coffee while I cuop and check emails.
I think today will be a combo of desk day, decluttering, left-over laundry from yesterday. That should keep me out of trouble for a while.
Kathryn, sounds like you will have an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day; dinner sounds delicious! Hope the fog clears for a nice fall view!

Call to make but waiting 5 min. Till the opening time usually is but banks are closed bc of Columbus day holiday they may be closed too. Dishes are going. Got eggs ready so h could take em to work.

Although I had intended to remember when it was Thanksgiving in Canada, that thought had vacated my mind this morning as I started our thread. So it was "Starting Monday...". I figured out what day it was and changed the title a bit!
Kathryn, quite resourceful about the extension cord. Hope the puppy has no urgent gotta-go-outside needs and can spend all the time with you.
Agreeing with Twins' Mom that the place cards sound great. Also really like the idea of letting children help explain where all will be seated.
BookSaver, I hope the repair bill will be tiny. In my experience, the two lights could be minor as well. Hope so.
BookSaver reminds me that ds had gotten bad news about his truck engine, and the $ guesses don't sound optimistic. Dd34 had to replace her engine in her Durango early this year as well. I know it sounds like my children must be hard on vehicles but both over 100,000 before bad trouble.
