Hither and Thither on Thursday

Where are you headed, to spread the warm glow of homemaking attention today?

Are you planning to patrol your home, maybe send some laundry through its paces today? Is there some swishing and swiping to do?

Does someone you love need a little direction and delegation? Shall we point the way, possibly give a scoot? ("GO, my child!")

Are you traveling out, or perhaps carrying someone else who needs to travel?

Does the trash need to go thither? Groceries come hither?
Are there leaves (or other household flotsam and jetsam) to be raked into a manageable pile for analysis?

We're needed, dear friends. The world cannot possibly move forward without us.

I'm busy with my second fitbit walk today. What I'm really doing with these is building community. I knew the woman I'll be walking with today has many 'issues' but when the one yesterday told me she had brought her meds with her because she wasn't sure she'd be able to manage without them, I thought, "God, why do I attract people with insecurities?" (Dh asked the same question later!) As I thought it, I was being flippant but then realized it was a sincere prayer with a solemn answer - because I can empathize but have somehow developed enough outgoing skills that I can offer assurance that being shy or depressed doesn't have to cut you off from everything in life and you don't have to travel alone.

I'm up. Tummy was fine this morning but that will change. I'm no longer optimistic about it, merely resigned. I'm having my pathetic breakfast (very little heft to it to carry me through the morning) and then I'll get s2s. Won't swim today because of the walk.

The walk today ends up at a cake shop (www.thebestcakeshop.com) which will be a challenge. I'm also planning to walk to the market a block away and pick up some local garlic and other veggies. Must remember to bring a backpack and my bus pass so I don't have to walk back carrying my purchases.

In honor of Throw-Back Thursday -- I have found some real treasures looking through the old magazines I bought at a library sale. There was an envelope of clippings that the lady had saved, unfortunately undated but look like 1950s and early 1960s. What I'm finding charming are not only the craft ideas for Christmas, but also on the back of the clippings are parts of advertisements. Here are some fun ones:

Those were on the back of a 3-page article about how to make and decorate felt Christmas stockings. Isn't the terminology fun? "Snappy colors" and "wear clothes smartly."

On the back of a page about DIY Christmas decorations:

- The shopper who does not give her herself sufficient time, who fidgets, interrupts sales clerks, or tries to get served without waiting her turn is inconsiderate of the rights of others and one of the trials of Christmas shopping.
- It is courteous to say "good morning" or "goodnight" to a co-worker when you pass or who obviously sees you.

Another thing that strikes me about these ads and the article above is the language and grammar. They appear to expect the customers to be better educated in reading comprehension.

I found an article torn from a newspaper about how to make a table centerpiece from dried twigs dipped in cooked starch and sprinkled with flaked mica to look like ice-covered branches. I am just as interested in the partial ad on the back that shows illustrations for sewing patterns for a pencil skirt, a shirtdress with a very pretty neckline, and an embroidered apron to wear over a full skirt. I wish I could buy those patterns today because they would make me look "smartly dressed."

BookSaver, your magazine articles reminded me of a book I recently read. Each chapter started out with a heading from magazines like Ladies Home Journal (was that a real magazine). They were quotes from the mag. about how to be a successful Wife and Housewife. This book had a 1950's setting. As I read through I was struck by the changes from them to now. I am a lot more liberated than I thought I was!

I'm back here working on my mileage log for the month. Each month I must go into a mileage site (I use R and Mc Na lly) and get my mileages for business places I used my car. Our odometer has been broken for years!

It's only 66° and I have all the windows open and the fan in the windows. It's smelling fresher in here now.

I'm very pokey this morning and hardly ready for 'hither and thither' YET. I'm s2s, bed made and meds done. Now on to breakfast. My goal is to be ready to take on the day by 9am. And an hour later it'll be the crosshairs of the day. Need to get moving.

Dee , Your slacks lasted a LONG time!

And they're really nice slacks and still going strong, FF. And they were only a pair I picked up at the local W mart down home -it was the only store available and I had nothing with me to wear (my DDad had passed away while I was trying to get home.) They have been a real strong staple in my wardrobe.

Since we're not going to my db's this weekend, dd and I plan to go to Disney Saturday. Most likely Epcot for their food & wine festival. Won't partake of the wine, but might sample some foods. (Have an annual pass so may as well use it.) Supposed to be fairly cool down here so a nice day to walk around.

Bought dh a new tie yesterday -he used to have lots but very few now for some reason. This has a zipper in the back side so maybe he can hide a few $$.

They're 'blowing the lines' at the campground today -know they were turn off the water last night. Hoping all goes smoothly for them today. Used to take them nearly 3 days to do this whole process but now have it down to less than a day. His plan is to leave ds's in the morning.

** meet potential buyer at MPB who want to look and discuss possibilities
** turn down offer that was received from a different potential buyer yesterday on MPB. Give counter offer
** meet potential buyer at our place. His mom came yesterday and took pictures. He is driving across the state to look at it.
** get insurance quotes on Birthday house
** take LO trick-n-treating this evening.

PLUS try to squeeze in all the normal stuff......

Have to ask dd tonight or tomorrow night about the mid-size duffel bag belonging to dsonil. He had it by his chair to take with him last weekend to the art show. Unfortunately he was called into work all weekend and never was able to go. His buddy took his Tikis to sell. But the bag is still there and I'm sure it will be till one of us moves it. Don't want it to be me. DD can probably take it to their room. I do notice that as I keep putting his things in one spot, the areas he spreads them around is becoming smaller. I don't expect him to completely convert, but I know it would be a whole lot easier on dd if he'd at least put some of his things away. And, like his dMom, he's definitely a hoarder. DD goes nuts with all his magazines. He has tons and tons. She's trying to move all his stuff to dgd's old room and make it 'his'. But she has to do it 'slowly' very 'slowly'.

Guess that was a 'skippable rant'/

Have a few things I'd like to finish up before dh gets here -then it won't be much of a job to unpack his things. DD's going to have to show him the power point of her 'things to do' over Thanksgiving break. It's really cute. I can't share with anyone (except here) about our plans because I'm afraid he'll hear before dd shows him the slide show. It's really cute -she has pictures of all the things to do over 'break' and then the sound of screeching tires with a big "NO!" Then she adds let's go see some ruins (Mayan) and go to the beach and it all leads up to a picture of the "Love Boat". He's been at me to go on another cruise for at least the last 5 years. I'm not good with water I have to admit so am a little anxious.

Yahoo! Lady M finally has her washer/dryer. Hope all goes well with that. Can't remember if you said you might be able to take them with you to the new house?

Okay, I'm glued to this seat and I need to hit all the hot spots (have to admit there's less & less to do in each of those each day.) Also have dishes to do from last night.

Meeting dd at school tonight & going out for a bite to eat, then going back to school to see "Cinderella".

Almost thinking if dd gets this new job, (it's only a lateral move with no pay increase, but maybe more up her alley) she'll be going right after Thanksgiving break -they have the whole week off here. That leaves her school without a good technology teacher, but the principal knows what's up and wished her all the luck in the world. In fact it will cost her more to work at the airport because it's more than twice the distance. So she obviously will be paying out more for the car. I know the temptation will be to take the Parkway but it's at least $1.00 each way, bringing that cost up even more. But she probably will take it when she needs to shave a little time off the commute.
