SATURDAY SCENT

Bookie, my sister lives in a facility like you describe. She and her hubby had just moved there 6 months before he died. It has been a really good thing for her. They take bus trips to some of the small towns around the city as some of the people grew up there. They also have other trips to events in the town. The food is REALLY good and she has water exercises 5 days a week.

My poor Dakota has scratched her belly so much it is raw. She doesn't want me to touch it. It looks like dry skin but I don't want to put anything on it because she licks it. So I tried baby oil. She didn't like me fooling with it at all - but she is scratching less.

I need to erase some footsteps this morning and wash the sheets. Other than that, I'm going to save my energy for tomorrow as I will have a lot going at church then.

I love outdoor smells! I love the smell of our lilac bush in the spring, the smell of corn fields in late summer/early fall (can you tell I grew up in central Ill?), even the slightly musty smell of damp fall leaves on the ground. I do not like the smell of wet dogs, though, as natural as that may be at times!

Done:
- a.m. routine is mostly done
- flow for SS tomorrow is mostly set
- lol #3 is ready to go in washer; lol #2 is ready to go in the dryer. Lol #1 is ready to be folded.
- folded and put away the remnants of an earlier lol
- lunch/brunch with dh and the girls (dd19 slept over here last night)
- put away some of the piles of books and files I'd left around the house
- watched a trailer for Into the Woods with the girls

Next:
- update laundry
- continue working on SS lesson; finish crafting my notes and then the handout.
- go over SS lesson flow with dh, who will be mercilessly critical - which I'm actually counting on.

My main goals for the day:
1. Get the SS lesson set up and practice the speaking parts over which I will have control.
2. Get caught up on laundry
3. Perhaps go to small group - this will involve a quick trip to WF to pick up something to share.

MT - Could Dakota have fleas? My poor old german shorthair I had in Seattle would get fleas and then scratch himself so bad he had what looked like a terrible rash. Evidently the flea saliva can do in some dogs more than others. Just a thought.

Kathryn - evidently we have been hit by malware bad stuff so we shut down the desktop and called "the guy". He will be here Tuesday morning so I am now using the laptop that we use in AZ and Mr. Guy is on his notebook. Something called PC Optimizer came on and we can't get them off. They are "offering" to fix our problems. Yeah, Sure!

Dee - glad your DH will be home with you again at the end of the day.

My favorite scents - like Dee - Vanilla and Raspberry and I also like Freesia.

We woke up this morning to lots of snow all around us - The Sierras and the Pine Nuts. It is so good to see it. We can always depend on it for Halloween/Nevada Day. Today Nevada is celebrating 150 years. This state was admitted to the union long before it should have been because Virginia City gold and silver was supplied to the North to win the Civil War. (IMO the worst war ever that divided families and caused so much heartache and loss for our own people - all of them)

Scents - my first thought was marigolds. Love that scent, and must admit the often-adjacent scent of tomato plants is lovely with it. For the "summer" scent of suntan oils, I lean more toward the Hawaiian Tropic one because I like coconut so much. Like the scent of our Christmas tree when we bring it in the house for decorating. (Can be overwhelming the first night/morning.) Nutmeg/cinnamon/citrus, whether in cooking or in simmer-er/potpourri made for the home. On me myself, I like the absence of any attempt at scent, and never buy perfumes. I do like walking into an incense shop like at a Ren Fair. But I'm not sure which scent I like. Someday I should spend some time and figure that out. I imagine it's the co-mingling of patchouli, sandalwood and jasmine.

Dd says "rain, Christmas, fire in a fireplace."

My dMom always had Lily of the Valley growing and the words and the scent also still brings back wonderful memories!

DD and I are back from Disney. I like that we can decide to do one thing there and come home if we like. We did walk well over 10,000 steps today all the way around Epcot. It's their food & wine tasting event. We bought food in a few different places and always split it. We probably spent far less than we would on a decent dinner and were pleasantly full when we left. It was nice trying different things. The only 'ride' we went on today (which we almost always do) was Spaceship Earth. My legs were ready to quit though. DD drove both ways. I was glad to let her.

I've been figuring around 4pm for dh's arrival. He called dsonil about 25 minutes ago and was in Webster, FL -about an hour & a half away at the most. Sure he thinks we're still walking Disney. Asked dsonil if it was a 'chicken' night. The 2 of them love Pu blix's fried chicken -spicy. So dsonil left a few minutes ago to go get some for them. DD and I will be very content with some leftovers -if we even get hungry.

It was a cool & windy day -gusts up to about 30. I wore a fuzzy jacket and was not sorry.

Couldn't get my kindle on this morning or when we got back. DD did the same thing I did and on it came.

Fireplace smoke! Harriet's dd reminded me. That is one of my favourite smells in the world because the cabins at White Point each have fireplaces.

Of course, the smell of the ocean at the shore (a mixture of salt air and seaweed) and, believe it or not, the smell of a 2 stroke engine or sawdust (reminds me of Saturday's spent with my dad.)

I'm back from the pool. Dropped my glasses in the shower room and lost a lens for a while (too blind to find it.) Good thing my gym is in a mall - I was able to walk to an optician and have it repaired. Otherwise, dh would have had to take a bus to me and drive me home.

Had lunch at Subway, picked up the items we needed from the bulk food store and came home. Just realized I have to wash and hang up my bathing suit so will do that now.

1- LOL washed/dried and P/A.
2- d2s, got Icy Hot on my back ASAP, washed my face, fixed my hair.
3- breakfast, supplements, pills.
4- coffee, a bit of QT, prayers, (no journal-writing yet).
5- hung up a Muumuu in the bedroom.
6- did QVAR, brushed teeth, after morning coffee.
7- browsed books on-line.
8- replied to Dsis' email.
9- worked on my calendar reminders.
10- moved a short stack of magazines, from the sofa/recliner area, back to the ottoman/chair/end table area.
11- read an e-book on combating holiday stress. (Absolutely NO WORD about making hand-made gifts for Christmas or the stress the deadline causes!!!!). Strange! (Do **I** need to write THAT book?????)

Need To:
1- eat lunch, take supplements and 1/4-pill.
2- see if I have enough laundry for a load.
3- strip the bed; remake the bed with fresh sheets.
4- crochet 13 butterflies w/13 bodies, sew onto Granny squares.
5- sort mail, when it arrives.
6- remember how "Good enough = good enough."
7- to walk today and log my exercise.
8- read magazines and on 2 non-fiction books.
9- declutter and put out hot spots.
10- rearrange items in the main/guest bathroom cabinet and drawers.

I need to get back to the butterflies. I crocheted 1 soft Caron pink one, am edging it in raspberry Red Heart Super Saver now. I need to take the bodies onto Grannies, then take the wings onto bodies, and tack down the wings, so they don't flop and look like dead leaves wiggling in the air, making it very, very difficult to distinguish what in the heck is that pink thing supposed to be?????

Have a Gr8 day, Everybody! My Dsis and Dbril live in Utah. She called the radio station, won 2 free tickets to a Drag Race, so I replied to her email, to ask her if they're at the Salt Flats in Utah or not. She said they haven't been at drag races since they were in their 20's. (They didn't know each other back then, either!) Oh, I found a photo of Dsis with her "ex" husband, who gave me his business desk, in my bunny room. Dsis and he became friends, after the divorce, but he passed away, from something he KNEW he was dying from. Dsis was devastated, as to how he came to her, to be friends, but her DH helped support her throughout dealing with the death of "ex". I saw his photo, thought about him, how he's gone now, but am very happy he was man enough, to care enough, to come to Dsis, to BE friends, near the end. Anyway, it's sort of a bittersweet love story. Dbil is so good to Dsis. What a love story there, too! I also found a photo of Dsis and me, taken about 12 - 13 years ago. Oh, my! She was still married to "ex" at the time. Her hair was an "I'm having a bad hair day," hairdo. When she saw the photo, she immediately got a hair makeover, and got so cute! I'm heavier in the photo, which was nice to see the difference in my appearance, too. The nice thing is, my pretty eyes and smile don't ever change, even if the scales go up or down. I never thought about that before, but you CAN be heavier and still look friendly to others. I'm rambling, I'm tired, stayed up late, couldn't get to sleep, tossed and turned, but was up around 8 a.m. So I'm rambling because I'm on the rummy tired side. At least I don't need to preform brain surgery today!

Good Saturday Afternoon! This is the coolest day so far this season, only about 64* despite the sunshine. Low is supposed to be about 52* tonight!

Wonderful theme for today, Dee. I'm not surprised Harmony mentioned lavender scent, I think it's one of my favorites, too! I also like marigolds for their fresh woodsy scent. I love going to state and county fairs because the smells reminds me of the times our family spent at my daunt's farm when we were young.

I spent the morning on weekly routine, gathered up some laundry and tried a little decluttering. Dh called ds#1 and he was at work, dgd17 has a band/color guard competition and the other dgkids have a Halloween party with their bowling club, so we won't see them this week. That's what happens when families grow up, so much to do all in different directions! It seems we only see them now about once a month.

BookSaver, hope your dmil adjusts to her new home easily; it sounds like a nice apartment.

Aw, poor ((Dakota)); hope you can find something to ease her discomfort, MT.

FF, my ddad used Old Spice and it's my ds#3's favorite as well; I love that scent, too.
