Friday Preparing for the Weekend

Hello, hello...
If I am not prepared for the weekend already, then it is too late -- dgs will arrive in less than 20 minutes and we will be on our own until late tomorrow night.

Yesterday I did talk to dmom -- and yes, she had already made plans with daunt... Thanksgiving at daunt's house and Christmas * dmom HOPES * at my grandmother's house. IF dmom can get it "ready" for guests in that length of time. I told dmom not to think she had "plenty of time" now, b/c things would get MUCH busier between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I also talked to my duncle and I think he was really glad I called. Told me thanks for calling and said he loved me. (DH said I'm probably the only niece/nephew he ever talks to anymore since he got mad at my cousin's family. )
Had a great time at the Loretta Lynn concert and dh and I ate at a Cajun restaurant we'd never been to before. Very nice night.

Lilac -- do tell us what has happened w/your dd's situation, which you mentioned last night. I hope everything is going okay for them, but you've got me so curious now.

I read what y'all were saying yesterday about detention and all that. I think at our local middle school, lunch detention is just a separate table, and they are allowed to talk to other "detainees." But one mom reported that everyone was "making fun" of her daughter, saying stuff like "Yeah, now the truth comes out, Suzy is a troublemaker after all," etc... Personally, I would just laugh it off, but apparently little Suzy has NEVER been in trouble before in her life and she was just totally heartbroken about her time at the detention table. She is a fourth grader, first year in middle school, etc... so maybe I'm not understanding the seriousness of middle school drama. And of course I don't understand girl drama at all, b/c ds was the least drama-prone kid I've ever met -- as I've always told y'all, he is part Vulcan. Thank goodness he doesn't have Spock's ears...

Brrrr... snow. It's cool here but definitely not snow weather yet! Brrrr...

Afternoon..

I was up this morning at 5...left the house a little after 6 to help with the community garage sale which is a benefit for one of the fellows who lives here. He had a terrible bicycle crash and has been in a hospital induced coma and in the hospital for more than 2 months...He is finally coming out of it and showing some improvement. He is also a fire fighter. The money we raise will go towards his medical bills.

I am meeting my friend in a little while to watch her daughter compete in a swim meet. This is a state championship meet and I am looking forwards to the event.

Tomorrow we will continue the garage sale so I need to be out of the house by about 6:30 am. Then on Sunday I am participating in a sun rise 10 mile hike I need to be at the beginning of the trail...this is a desert mountain hike...and ready to go at 6:30. That means I will have to be up by5:30 am. Will pack my "camel bag"...which holds water plus snacks and whatever else I need before I go..will do most of that Sat. night.

This part of my training for my Feb. event and I am really looking forwards to my Sunday morning adventure.

Need to stop at the pharmacy before I go to the swim meet so I am waving HI to y'all. cy'all later........

Ff selling hens bc we have too many they do not lay as big of eggs as the others or as often and they will not stay home and I hatched out replacements already that should be laying in the spring. Not enough room in the coop for all of them if it gets really cold. A gal I know wants some and her mom has some in this breed. They are so tame they are like pests on the porch pooping....You get the drift. Who would think there is such a thing as too tame of hens. They come up to the door and whine for food. sort of anoying!

Hello everyone. I fell asleep earlier than usual last night and was awake before 5 am., just dozing until the alarm sounded this morning. I am sitting in our family room now; it is the brightest room in the house this time of year. I love the bright sunshine coming through the windows during the day; it is more on the south west direction than during the spring and summer.

I haven't posted for a few days, but tried to keep up on the news here. It was nice to hear Harriet's dd16 made the internship program. Dee...I was glad you had no accident due to the blind spot in your car. Oh, and I'm glad your dh's test turned out ok! Lilac...Hope your dh starts feeling better so he can start his retirement the best way - happy and healthy! It sounds like Ruby is slowly getting better; I hope it continues. I hope Dakota and Pepper are ok. LadyM...I agree with everyone else ---- I enjoy your posts and would miss them if you weren't here!

I enjoyed the links posted here the last few days. I hadn't heard about USPS delivering on Sundays. But I had heard some time ago they were thinking of no delivery on Saturdays.

RRose...a garage sale to benefit one of your neighbors is a wonderful idea!

Helia...your mention of a cup of milky tea reminded me of something my dmom told me long ago. When she was a little tot her dgfather would pour his tea (with milk and sugar) into the saucer and dip a piece of bread in and feed her little bites!

Well, I have somewhat prepared for the weekend by doing the Friday weekly routine. I will finish up tomorrow morning with mopping kitchen and bathrooms and probably a lol. We haven't seen dfam#1 for a few weeks, hope they can come tomorrow. I also spent some time straightening up my sewing area. And now DMinnie keeps reminding me it's time for her supper! Hum....here it is in middle of afternoon and I finally sat down to CUOP and post.

Harmony - Best wishes on your endeavor to understand insurance & prescription cost. A year or two ago I sat down and created a spreadsheet to capture the data as I price matched DH prescription meds. It started with researching which insurance package covered them best and went on to include mail order prices and local pharmacy prices. It took quite awhile to gather all that information. Plus generic prices. The end result was mail order was MUCH less expensive than any other option. There was one of DH meds (Metformim) that was less expensive to buy locally than mail order because generic meds is a flat $15 fee for 3 months supply. I made the decision that $5 a month was acceptable price for a medication so I kept all DH meds at the same mail order place.

Speaking of insurance research.....I was surprised to find out home insurance is now GREATLY affected by owning dogs. I thought having an inground pool would be an issue. Nope, they just wanted to know if proper fence/gate/locks were in place. However having 2 dogs is a biggie! Also having a free standing wood stove is an insurance concern. But the dogs were the biggest concern of all the insurance agents I contacted yesterday. Apparently if you own certain breeds of dogs they will not give you house insurance. Thinking of DGD3 being attacked by a dog earlier this year requiring multiple stitches and therapy......which is now going through the court system with multiple insurance companies pointing fingers at each other trying to make the other one pay.

This morning I did the organization/txting/calls to get septic tank pumped out for VDFriend brother who passed away. Apparently it was causing problems before he suddenly passed away but having sewer problems when you home is filled with funeral activities is not acceptable. ANYway - that is resolved.

This afternoon I volunteered at LO school for 3 hours. As I walked in and out of the various school buildings I recalled a life long friend telling how locked down their small town school is. She said that she had to get a pass at the front desk or your not allowed to enter the building. Must wear a pass at all times.....no exceptions. They have police in the building or on the grounds at all times. That is vastly different from LO school. I don't think the security has changed much in the last 30 years. ALTHOUGH, the local police did pull me over today with lights flashing because I was speeding in the school zone. He told me to be more aware & not do it again. Yes, Sir!

LO made 100 on his spelling test for the first time!!! this is huge for him. He has been so trained to phonetically sound out his words that he has struggled to learn to spell them instead of sounding them out. It has been a slow learning process to make the switch but he has it now.

Now to get subtraction learning process to kick in instead of adding the numbers......

Ds came and sat on our couch a while. I can always tell when he is just about to tell something hard to hear. Both his and the neighboring small-town fire dept were out last night on different calls when the other had to announce they were out of service (whole dept) for foreseen future and ask neighbors to cover. Main large truck was leaving an accident scene on the way back when a poor drunk pedestrian wobbled from the dark into the path of the truck. There was nothing they could do - he was killed. Police have been very clear to the driver that he will not be charged, he was driving responsibly and slow, really, but he is so shook up. The whole scene at the time was so sad, desperately trying to save the man, calling for a chaplain.

I had my green-eyed boy3 and his puppy for a while today. Puppy is gigantic and HAPPY-PEPPY. Tobias' tail didn't unfluff for an hour afterward. (Puppy wasn't supposed to go inside, but someone must have forgotten to tell her. I muscled her out.) We watched Thomas Tank Engine and played matchbox car. My green-eyed boy gets to come back and see his cousins tomorrow and we will have 5 altogether.

Sigh, this sat here a while. I missed that it didn't post.

Lucyl. I have mixed emotions about selling the hens but mostly reluef I was overwhelmed trying to keep em home. Some 3 will go to a farm. Others a city life as pampered hens.

H. Got new tires on the car. I put the roosts back up fed the rest of the chickens and took my walk.

LadyM, I wish I knew how you did that with the spread sheet. As I was comparing from the "official" website, I noticed some pharmacies didn't even seem to accept some plans...but I'm not sure that was what I was seeing... and I put in the plan I now have and the numbers just didn't agree with what I paid... It didn't explain if the different plans do tiers-which mine does. I just didn't understand any of it.

editing: I have been pouring over that site for a while now. I've found a couple things, a much cheaper pharmacy, and other plans that cost less over all (drugs & premium both). So now I must email my agent and ask what's up. I've been afraid he's just recommending ones he has affiliation with and gets a %.

I'm annoyed how complicated everything in life seems to be. From healthcare to product warranties, etc. etc. Does anybody else just get weary from it all?
