A Terrific Tuesday

Tuesday ta dah!
-turned off electricity at dsis' house
-emailed insurance agent
-got rid of a bunch of papers
-deposit at my bank (found a misplaced ck on my desk, thank goodness)
-deposit at dsis' bank
-bought dog food
-bought groceries
-vet trip for Moses
-did some online research re proceeds of dsis' house - I will reimburse the conservator (me) for expenses and the remainder of her proceeds, I believe, can go into a burial account.
-took apart the refrigerator insides because one drawer has been squawking whenever it has been opened. Found the frame broken, may have it back together with duct tape for the short term. Did a decent amount of cleaning while it was apart but ran out of time (was after grocery trip and before vet trip.)

So I'm back home and losing steam rapidly. Just pulling things that need to be done off the top of my head....
-clear kitchen counters again
-put batteries in dog invisible fence collars
-refill meds containers for the week
-wipe out the other two drawers of refrigerator
-order 4 DNA testing kits (me, dh, dmom and an uncle that is still alive)

((Harmony)) Wish I could come over and have a cup of coffee with you and talk it out.

DMoses has a sebaceous cyst on his ankle that has ruptured and he has been licking at it. It needs to be removed surgically but can wait until next week. We'll clean his teeth also while he's under anesthesia, and draw enough blood to go ahead and do the heartworm test due next month.

Harmony, shame on any burly men who just watch instead of helping a lady/woman/ girl who is carrying anything! Harmony, I wish I lived close enough to help out. You have so many irons in the fire at any given time. I can see how the church dinner could be the last straw. Please take of yourself.

Elizabeth, I have no doubt that you can fix those dash lights. You continually amaze me and I know that once you set your mind to something, you accomplish it. Kudos!

Dee, I feel for your dsonA. It is so hard to run a business that depends on the weather, not to mention customers who are slow to pay.

Twins, I hope you were able to get Moses into the vet.

Harriet, good job on soaking up some Vitamin D while do bodyguard duty.

Sadie, it sounds like you are feeling better.

FelineFriend, the pkg. you received from your dson and ddil is a nice assortment of yummy foods.

I took out the trash before I took off my coat after coming in from getting my hair cut. I knew I didn't want to tackle that tomorrow when it is to be bitter cold and windy. Last week I had a pile of trash bags, sitting in the sunroom. After hauling all that out, I decided I didn't want it to pile up again.

Well that is as far back as I can read. I am fixing tacos and tostadas for supper. We both thought that sounded good.

This house needs cleaned but it can just wait until tomorrow.

I am doing better than fine now. Found a bad apple in the fridge soon as it was gone sniffles quit! Got a rosemary plant at the green house, got sox for me, knitting mtg. Was fun I hurried to home only to discover no toddlerN duty today sigh. I had my
phone turned way down everyone called or texted me not urgent stuff .

Sadie, re: DS-R and shoulder surgery -know he's still having trouble with it, but his shoulder was extremely 'messed up' as the dr. said. I do know he went back to see him (via something dd said the other day) so am not totally sure how it really is doing. Thanks for asking.

Think I get more concerned for his stress level during times like this, Lilac. I get worried it will be just too much for him. He surely needed a profession that was not quite so stress laden. And it's become quite big so his overhead is enormous at this point -and the bills are there no matter what.

Hello, villagers ~
CI: Early this morning I spent over 2 hours on administrative reports and Emails for the sewing and library groups.

My library friend and I moved our morning meeting from 8:30 to 11:00, which gave me time to shovel the driveway and sidewalk, and then take a nice warm shower.

I heard the radio dj say the temp when I went out to shovel was -9F, with wind chill of -25F. I wore lots of layers. I followed Kathryn's lead from the other day and tied a cotton bandana over my nose & mouth to keep my face warm; thanks, Kathryn, that worked really well. I put on a hooded sweater under my lined coat, and then put a knitted hat and scarf on as well. My socks were so thick I had a hard time pulling on my snow boots. Best of all, my brand new mittens were warm enough to keep my fingers from frostbite.

Luckily, although there were several inches of snow, it was very light and fluffy. I did the whole driveway in 1 session with just a quick break to go into the garage to blow my nose.

The public works guys did a good job clearing the roads and sanding intersections. Once I got out of my own driveway, I didn't have any trouble driving around town.

The meeting at the library was 2 hours long. My friend has a lot of great ideas for decorations for the Fancy Nancy Tea Party. She has an artist friend who is going to loan or donate several pretty things.

We also changed over the Wish Tree from Christmas red & green decorations to January blue snowflakes, and added a better sign for it because I thought it possible that patrons didn't really know why the tree was there. Unless you took the time last month to take a good look at it, it probably just looked like a little tree that the children had decorated with paper ornaments. You had to go up closer to see that each ornament had written on it a wish for something the library needs for story time craft supplies -- crayola markers, stickers, craft foam shapes, glue dots, etc. We transferred all the wishes to blue snowflake ornaments, added the sign, and I'll put a blurb about it on the fb page.

When I got home, I warmed up some leftover soup for lunch and ate it while watching a video about British WWII recipes and gardens. Then I needed a nap!

After supper tonight I will fire up the sewing machine and sew while I watch tv. I am way behind schedule on the shirts for Haiti children. I have a choice of recordings on the dvr to watch: the old Hitchcock movie Lifeboat, previous seasons of Endeavor, Inspector Lewis, and Call the Midwife, the final 3 Craig Ferguson Late Late Shows, or the 3 most recent episodes of Major Crimes. I ought to be able to get a few marathon sewing sessions out of that bunch over the next week.

Change of plan. I'm not going to sew tonight after all. After I finished supper and cleaned the kitchen, I answered a phone call. It was my library friend with more ideas for the tea party, and she was in a very talkative mood. Fun, but now I have the start of a headache and don't really want to watch tv.

Better to go to bed early, get a good night's sleep, and sew tomorrow while the laundry machines are doing their thing.

Dee, I'm sure glad you didn't have a head-on collision. There is one spot just West of Orlando the gps kept trying to get us to go East, getting back on the interstate, exactly the wrong direction. We've never updated the Garmin and I suspect that's one of the problems. DD tried updating hers and it got fried, the co. replaced it and have since said that problem is fixed...but we're a little afraid.

Plus, when one first sets it up, you have to choose toll roads or no toll roads, fastest route or shortest. But it's been our experience that not one set of settings fits all situations. We're getting a nice paper map before we go up again.

Dee, I know exactly what your dson is experiencing. We have a customer never paid us last year, his refinance didn't go through, and we didn't know he was relying on that...and it really put us in a pickle. In this economy, and in this section of FL one doesn't recover from anything like that easily.

I had to go back out to that place and pick up DH and helper. He was not happy I went the very long way around because I just couldn't face becoming lost again. I came home and got right into bed and slept 3 hours. I think that is part of my problem, I am just physically worn out. Well, I've had some dinner and I'm going back to bed and hope I can sleep.

Frustrating day with highs and lows but the lows leaving a bad taste in my mouth (figuratively and literally.)

Dh and I went off and successfully did the errands. He wanted to do the airport too to update his Nexus card so it was to ds's to drop off stuff for our storage room, to Scouts Canada to drop off paperwork for our dneice (she was an area commissioner), to bulk food and grocery stores, to airport, to hardware store and Costco, then to the car wash where we bought a monthly membership and washed the very dirty car. All returns but one are done. Almost everything is off my grocery list. The car is dirty again after taking it out tonight in the snow but that doesn't matter because we get up to one wash a day with this plan!

Dd and dsil arrived here just 15 minutes after we arrived home. I was starving (it was 4 and we never stopped for lunch for me) so I grabbed a hotdog. There were three messages on the machine and the second church was what the callers had in common. Sure enough, a choir member has died unexpectedly. We let CM know we could be part of the choir if the funeral was on Friday as expected.

Ds was late, we ordered pizza from a local place instead of Dominoes and it made me sick. This is the second time I've had pizza from there (the first was moving day) and it is the 'best' local pizzeria. Everyone else liked or loved it, but it makes me sick each time. So next time I'll just have a frozen dinner or leftovers from Dominoes.

While dd and dh were picking up the pizza, a newly potted plant fell over in the living room. The rest of us were just sitting there when it fell, dropping fresh soil (both dry and wet) and dirty water over a 6' diameter area (including over two children's rockers and the stuffed toys on them.) It took ages to clean up because if I swept it, it would smear mud on the floor and every time I moved anything out of my way to clean, I was expanding the disaster zone.

Then the phone rang just as we were to begin the movie, 45 minutes late. So dh had to stop watching before the movie finished because of his conference call.

The phone rang after the movie and CM told me the funeral was moved to Saturday afternoon. That would be at the time that dh and I are taking CM's kids to the concert for their Christmas present (and she was spending the afternoon with CF because it was his birthday.) I told her we couldn't be there, I had bought 7 tickets to the theatre and wasn't about to change plans because there was nothing else to change them too. She wanted to talk but I had to go because the kids were all dressed at the door waiting for a ride.

I drove the kids home and had a tense drive home because I feel so sick from the pizza. I've had a bit of Dr. Pepper and some tea to settle my tummy and it is a bit better but I'm still pretty bad and not heading to bed.

Dh and I cleaned up the rest of the mess with the plant and the dishes and put away the last of the groceries. I picked up the pizza box and realized that they had pushed the trivets out of the way and put the boxes down on thin place mats. The heat from the pizza has clouded the finish on my (antique, mahogany, heirloom) dining table. I just burst into tears. Hopefully it will recover.

I'm pretty angry because dh did the same thing with the piano bench years ago and it never fully recovered. But the bench was pretty beaten up already and tucked under the piano. The table is in wonderful shape (we had it refinished years ago) and the deep, dark, surface is out on display normally, not hidden under a cloth. If we are having a big dinner with lots of hot dishes, I put down a sounding cloth that thermally and moisture protects the table and another cloth over that. But for everyday, the unadorned table is exposed.

We'll know in the morning if we caught it in time or if I have to start trying more drastic actions like ironing the table.

In the meantime I have ordered dh to NEVER PUT DOWN A PIZZA BOX on wood, not a table, not a stool, not the floor.

So it has been a successful day (all the errands run, we got the car wash membership, the kids were here for dinner and a movie) and disaster (my expectations for Saturday have been changed, we won't be at the funeral and I've spent ages cleaning up messes that shouldn't have happened.) Oh and I feel like throwing up. And I still feel sick from the cold.

I'm in a mood. But I feel I've earned the right to whine.

Dgson & Hens like the mac n cheese after its frozen, h not so much. More left overs for dinner tonight saving us some $ starting to restock the freezer. Speaking of savings I added some to my savings acct.
