Re: Health and Fitness January, 2015
This month I have been copying Harriet's idea of tracking daily health reminders, with January focus specifically on drinking water. I'm using a PocketMod grid for my form because it will fit 3 weeks on the same tiny page.
I was concerned looking back over the week that it looked as if I hadn't had enough water every day. This morning I measured my normal water glass and saw that it holds a full 24 ounces. That means my water consumption is fine and I can go back and mark off more little boxes on the PocketMod grid.
I was a bit worried when I bought the SodaStream a few months ago that I would fall back into the habit of drinking more cola because it would always be available. In fact, my pop consumption has reduced. I'm more conscious of how much I drink since I mix it up myself. Also, I am more likely not to have pop in restaurants because I'm such a tightwad I don't want to pay restaurant prices for something I can so easily make at home! I drink water when we're out, and may or may not have a glass of pop when we return home. I like treating it as more of a dessert than a beverage.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2015
Since my Thyroid is having "problems" leveling out, which messes up weight loss, and because my Dr. and nurse, both said on separate occasions, how when my Thyroid returns to normal, I'll gain a little weight- I'll "go with it." I'll be returning to my low-carb diet, on Feb. 1st, because it's a Sunday, a first day of a month, and will be after my colonoscopy. I read Dr. Phil McGraw's book "The 20/20 Diet," and his foods, listed for phase 1, 2, & 3, on his diet are not foods, which I can eat, because of GI issues, etc... This is why I decided to do the low-carb diet again. I've had success on it, I feel good, in my brain function, memory, and thinking, and I have less fibromyalgia pain, and more energy. I keep reading how the low-carb diet is good for the brain, FM and the muscles and nerve endings, too.
Dr. Phil talks about people who are weight-loss resistant. He stated how some of those people, with this problem, have Thyroid problems, GI and Gerd problems. (He listed other health problems, which I don't have, thankfully. I'm just listing my problems.) He said to not let it give you a license to not even try! He said people, who are weight-loss-resistant, CAN exercise and CAN eat healthy. He talked about his problems, too, but notices how on the tennis court, how much better he moves, for longer, and how much better he feels, too. He's very motivating, he's very honest, has a sense of humor, which makes me laugh out loud, and I recommend his book to anybody. He has tips and information on "mind eating," which is emotional eating, and other good tips and information as well.
Even thought I won't be following his particular diet, I DID get a LOT out of his book, and when I read about the Thyroid, I felt more at Peace and better about this situation my body has me in right now!
Also, sometime this upcoming week, we're going to Walmart. I looked on-line at their site. I saw where they sell Signature Levis jeans AND Lee jeans, TOO.
I would love to purchase a pair of size 18 jeans, perhaps a top, to have a new outfit, from my b-day money. I know size 18 may seem large to some people, but I used to wear size 2x/3x or 22/23. I was a huge woman. So 18, to me, isn't too terrible, I am comfy in size 18 now, and if I gain weight, the 18's will fit me still, because the Dr. and nurse said "put on a LITTLE weight." I'm thinking about 5 - 8 Lbs. and NOT 50 Lbs., in other words. I'm very happy to be a size 18, because I got people who stared at me, pointed, and said "things", which I was obese at a much larger size.
I'm not going to allow a # on the scales or the tag, to NOT validate me as the person I AM, inside, and I do think I'm a pretty special person. I don't give up, I'm a good friend, I try to keep a good attitude, I'm a giving person, and there's many more positive things, which define me than merely numbers. I will get back on my diet on Feb. 1, though, to try to do my best. And feel my best, too. I have a pen friend, who is battling the same exact thing I am, and since my Dr. asked me if I've ever had thyroid cancer, or nodules removed, I said no, my pen friend said she's praying that NEITHER one of us has Thyroid cancer. It's so nice to have a dfriend, in the same situation. I don't feel so solitary and alone now.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2015
FFriend, I have read Dr. P's 1st weight loss book. I don't remember it motivating me very much. But then, not a whole lot does motivate me!
I'm down about 10 pounds from my very highest point, when I went bonkers during/after DH's surgery and DFIL dying. Now, if I could just continue down and get the next 10 off I will be where I was pretty much after I dieted the last time and got down a bit. I sure am tired of this yo-yo up and down.

2nd week back at yoga. I think I did better. My hips still don't cooperate with sideways poses. I'm still using blocks to do the downward dog sequences (I have them under my hands)
Walked 3k. Dog and I doing better with that again. I must walk daily, including when at dds'.

I can't believe I've lost my YMCA card already, after I went and got a new one last week.
If it isn't at Mother's I will go for another one tomorrow. Last Thursday while there I realized that my key ring was open and that the YMCA hang tag thing wasn't there.

Twins: at least you know your Y-card is missing. I haven't bothered to look for mine in weeks!
LadyM: We train people that food is validates and rewards us from such a young age. Obviously, businesses won't hand out certificates for books, etc because their cost would be so much higher (it costs cents to produce a sundae but a book will cost the business a dollar or more.) And these days children aren't impressed with 'prizes' like a pencil or a pad of paper because that sort of thing is nothing compared to the toys that come with a Happy Meal. Yet in Africa we are to hand out pencils and paper and small sharing toys like a ball to children, not food, despite the fact that their food situation is also perilous.
I'm doing very well keeping up with the steps despite not managing any of my other health goals. I could lie in bed all day today and still not fall behind my average for the month. I suspect I need to up my step goal since this one is almost a no-brainer.
Haven't got on a scale so can't tell you if the weight is moving. Doubt it.
My cold is almost gone. No cough but occasional throat clearing. My nose is dripping but few sneezes. I go everywhere with tissues and water. Which reminds me to reload my coat pocket - I used the last tissue last night.
