Saturday Surprise

Imagine my surprise very early this morning when I decided to stop by the village, only to find roadblocks everywhere!! I emailed the admin team, and it seems they've cleared out those rotten little cybergremlins!

This has been - as usual - a weird morning. I woke up at a ridiculously early hour, puttered around a bit, discovered the roadblocks to the village and emailed the admin team, and then decided to get a bit of work done. I packed another box of stuff, put some things in a bag for Goodwill, and then decided to have a nap DH has gone off gaming with his friends, and DS is staying over at the new house to do some of the heavier cleaning and decluttering, so I have this house all to myself for the day!

Weigh in this morning was horrible, dreadful, and definitely NOT what I wanted to see!

Now I'm off to find something to eat and get my daily cards completed.

Really not a good day today.

The village outage was caused by the ISP but it took hours to confirm they were 'working' on it and then we had to keep checking, over and over, because once they had it back up, we had to make the same fix as we made last week. So, not our fault, but required us to fix it. Obviously, this ISP won't work for us - we went two years with the old ISP and no way to fix anything and yet no outage required us to do anything. Now, at least three outages in the past 3 months and all requiring us to be connected to reliable internet. Once we leave on our trip, there will be 40+ hours at a time that we won't have internet.

Then ds came (as arranged) for me to do his ironing. Just 2 shirts but one had been put away wrinkled, and packed away for 18 months and the other had been stored the same way but he had tried to iron it. It took me almost 30 minutes to get them ironed, then I did my ironing. His payment was episodes of Newsroom, except I shouldn't have been distracted today.

Finally turned off the tv and realized we had only 24 minutes to get to bank so dh took off without me. No problem except something is up because the bank called. BUT, I was going to the bathroom, ran for the closest phone which is the bedroom. It rings there but won't connect to take or make a call (plaster walls strike again) They haven't called back. I'm sure it is abundance of caution (dh never does the banking) but it is a smallish transaction (under $4K) and dh has all the same authority as I do. I called his cell phone but it went straight to voice mail so I'm stuck now waiting to find out what has gone wrong. We went to the bank to do this on Thursday night but dh didn't have the info with him. I just hope he didn't forget all the stuff again.
iSo total frustration here. All I've accomplished today is to delete 50 emails and do the ironing. Also made the bed but it is a mess because I dove across it trying to get to the ringing phone. My breakfast and lunch dishes are still out, even. And I still have two reports to write.

Edited to add: it was dh calling from the bank 1) they wouldn't let him do the transfer because they want an additional piece of info that they didn't tell him about the last time they wanted an additional piece of info and 2) did I want the car washed.

It took 10 minutes but I got the bedroom phone working again. Until the next time it doesn't work but the only way we can tell isn't working is by trying to answer it when it is ringing. That's when it won't work, it rings, it shows who's calling and if there's no incoming call it shows it is connected but when you actually have to use it as a phone, it fails. Thankfully we have a traditional phone wired into the wall in the bedroom in case of emergency but that doesn't use the phone numbers dh always uses, it used the Bell line I insisted on installing so we had a reliable phone. So it is fine for outgoing but no-one ever calls that number.

Thought it was 'me' at first BSweet, till after I'd emailed Kathryn and she had already heard from you. Thanks for checking so early. Pretty sure it wasn't easy for them, so glad they had an early 'heads up'.

Just got home from our church's "New Year's" get together pot luck. Now I'm ready for a map -and I didn't even have turkey (or chicken as the case was today). I did have a piece of lemon meringue pie though in remembrance of my dMom. She almost always made a lemon meringue for me whenever I was going home to visit. She also would make dreamy mac 'n cheese that I have yet to find a recipe that closely resembles her. I'm sure I thought back then she'd always be around and never did get a recipe from her -a couple more I'd love (that I never can seem to find quite like hers) was bean soup and Spanish rice.

Think I'll read and probably fall into that little nap quite by 'accident'. Dh and dd will be along in a while. They were going to a member's house to pick up a sewing machine.

I took the "surprise" here as a chance to reassess tasks.

Found the most procrastinated task - that letter to the daughter of ddad's missing cousin. (Missing from contact with worried elderly cousins.) I'd had an adept-at-documentation relative on other side of family search for clues, and so the snail-mail address of the daughter's small business storefront was available to me all January. But I had a mental block. I needed to "sleep on it" a lot to come up with best ways to approach a woman who has likely never heard of me, and is routinely suspicious that envelopes arriving at her business are just sales pitches.

Here are the pains I went to
Printed new return address label to include my maiden name (and used hers in the address). Found a vaguely greeted card and exchanged white envelope for green to look less sales-ish. Typed the oh-so-carefully-worded letter because info was complicated, but printed on correspondence stationary. Asked only that she call the aunt whose name I think she may find familiar, not necessarily that she call me. Hoping.

Hey, I need a "Determine the most procrastinated task" card! A card like that could save a lot of anxiety.

UPS has had to come to my door and apologize, and A-river has sent two apology emails. The package with the Bible study books for the class is lost. Well, if someone has them in possession and does not attempt to return to UPS, perhaps they will benefit from the study. Still, disappointing since tomorrow is the only time I'd be able to give books to folks at church so they'll have to wait a full week.

The two reports are mostly written. Still need to proof read them. Of course, digging through piles looking for things, dug up more things I should be doing before tomorrow's meeting.

We are having an appetizers dinner. Just lots of leftover appetizers from the Christmas parties.

Hello, villagers ~
Thanks to Kathryn for staying on top of the situation with the board outage.

My Tiny Town lost power for a little over 2 hours last night -- out of a clear sky after a beautiful sunny day, no obvious explanation, but I talked on the landline to a friend who lives across town and hers was out, too, so it affected the whole town. I might hear a reason when I go to the library on Monday. Very inconvenient timing, but luckily the supper I was cooking in the microwave at the time was almost done so it was edible, though not as hot as we would have preferred. Then I had to do whatever chores I could do by flashlight until the electricity came back on and I could restart the washer and turn on the sewing machine and iron.

I was away all day today sewing for charity. My part of the project to sew shirts for Haiti school uniforms is done. The project itself will continue for another month, but I cannot do any more on it as I have other deadlines needing my attention. It was a good day, we had a small but productive group.

I got home after 4 and DH had not eaten lunch so we went to a local diner for early supper.

I don't have the energy to do much of anything else tonight. Might do a load of laundry, but that isn't an urgent need.
Must cuop. After I do that, I might just watch a movie and then go to bed early.

Hi! I got 1 dress done, in variegated colors, for DGD-2, and it's a pinafore sleeve dress with 2 butterfly buttons on the bodice. TOO CUTE!

I got another gift card today! This is my 3rd one, so far, for my b-day! I have 21 cards, so far, and they keep trickling in. I ordered "The Next Best Thing," (a hardcover novel), by Jennifer Weiner. It was only $3.99! I also ordered 1 year's subscription to a bi-monthly magazine, called "Quick Quilts." A relative said a Target gift card's on its way, so I plan on getting a new purse with it. ♥

I'm on my way to brush/floss, s2s, crochet more on another new dress, and plan on doing snail mail tomorrow AFTER the Seahawks game. Plan on doing computer letters. They're much faster and I can save my finger-power and thumb, (which can get sore), for crocheting. It's easier to say more on less paper, with a computer letter anyway, and it's more legible, too. It's fun, too, to add clip art to them, too.

I didn't get on-line, until later in the day, so had the email you were down, here, and then were up. So I missed all of that, missing the Village and all. It's not fun to not get to sign in, when you want, so I've been there, too. This way, everything was up and running, by the time I came on-line.
