I hope it gets easier for HRH. I suspect it might be a rough few years until she finds the right person that HRH trust to care for her as well as he can (and does).

I'm starting to feel yucky now. Maybe it is just sympathy flu symptoms. I'm the Mom! I can't get sick! Going to find a thermometer.

Do you have any proactive supplements or products to give them, LadyM? (or yourself?) Airborne, Zicam, vitamin D?

A different time - yes, we do all have to admit that. Here in our area, closest town of 2,000 (throughout my school years) where everyone had some connection, has grown to a huge place with an amazing influx of newcomers from every direction. By now, many "new" children my ds befriended have moved away again, and into their houses new families, or even the NEXT new family for dd16 to meet. In between those homes, whole subdivisions, or the 2nd half of subdivisions, have shot up. High School graduating classes haven't made an attempt to keep up with each other here since before dd35 graduated. It would be hopeless.

So it's very hard to say, "I know that family" any more. You may meet one member of the family, and get a feel for that person. but the concept of knowing THE family is another thing. After all, when a news reporter covers a meth lab discovered in someone's spacious full basement, all the neighbors interviewed say, "they were just the nicest people". :)

I remember when people here used to say they felt suspicious of "the trailer park", which was subdivided in the late 60s and, of course, sprang up quickly due to the nature of modular and mobile home set-ups. Now, that well established community is like a bulwark of tradition compared to trying to remember all the new street names elsewhere. Those families are suspicious of everybody else, now.

In fairness, I had a moment of fear from another child when I was little and I was just in the next room from my parents and the other parents. That's probably not new, but our "times" may suggest a lot more questionable ideas for children to wrestle too young.

Sermon is done. Still have prayers, blessing and outline the children's story.

We'll go out for dinner tonight to a local diner. So I'll get more steps in. I've already completed my goal for the month but extra steps will be nice to have.

I'm sorry LO ended up with the floor and that is sounds like the rest of the family are coming down with it too. At least next time you see creepy dad you can tell him it is a good thing ds didn't end up sick at his house!

Yes... the times they ARE a'changing...
I had LOTS of over-night stays with friends, probably stayed in at least half a dozen or more homes. I'd say with all of these, my parents had known their parents practically all their lives. Now... yes, it would be hard to say that for parents of small children, even in our Tiny Town. With the exception of about three, however, these were group "spend the night" parties. Of the three whom I regularly stayed with, one was a second cousin, one was my best friend from before kindergarten on (who also attended our church and my parents knew the family VERY well), and one was my next-door-neighbor.

Inappropriate behavior... probably some of that is bound to happen, probably some of that is "normal," but as Harriet said -- our culture is changing so much now that children are exposed to sooo much now in music and tv, and some children even through family behavior, and all that is likely to cause children to "act out" more. And I know child abuse has happened since the beginning of time, probably, but now we are so much more aware... it's just a hard time to be a parent or grandparent, isn't it?

Well. On a different subject... good gracious, where IS that BGS???
I am having a horrible time getting myself moving today. What is it about Saturdays? I act like I's still working a 40-50 hour week and need an off day, when the truth is I've usually just been lazy for 5 days and want to make it 6.

My CARDS for today are as follows:
[ ] exercise
[ ] change sheets (should I wash the new sheets first?)
[ ] s2s (yeah, it's almost 3:00 pm and I haven't done that yet)
[ ] color hair (I always act like this is a terrible ordeal, and it IS time-consuming, but in reality, it only adds about 30 min. to my regular s2s)
[ ] clean (air-out) humidifier
[ ] Bible reading
[ ] make out clearing list/OMM for coming week
[ ] errands
-- bank, deposit dh's check, get cash for weekend
-- store, we're out of Diet Coke, this is an emergency situation around here
[ ] water plants
[ ] write check for newspaper man
[ ] declutter magazines
[ ] computer clean-up chores
[ ] upload pictures from computer to Walmart, order prints
[ ] dust, vacuum (skipped this week b/c of dmil's decluttering)
[ ] mop kitchen & baths (I don't know why this is so urgent, I've skipped it for over a month)
[ ] s/s dh's shower (a 5 min task, but it got skipped Thurs while we were at dmil's decluttering)
[ ] s/s toilets

And what have I been doing since I awoke, you may ask? Well, I ate breakfast... surfed the internet some... read a newsletter I got in the mail... and slept through the second half of the basketball game. (TN won, Twins, in case you didn't already know.) Oh -- and I returned a phone call to a friend who wants me to proofread something for her... and she's supposed to be e-mailing it to me, but I haven't received it yet. Need to check spam folder, I guess.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME???

I don't know what's wrong with me... but I promise, I will do the first 6 items before y'all hear from me again!
Tomorrow is another day.

Thermometer confirmed LO temp at 100.5 (with Tylenol in him) and my temp is normal. DGD3 went to spend a few hours with DD and will be back here any time. She will be staying with us until Monday. Hopefully they won't get whatever LO has.

I've heard so many pro/cons on taking meds with the flu until I just freeze with indecision. I tend to go with the the old remedy - stay down and consume lots of liquids.

RR - I want to tell how much I am enjoying the Hipzbag. I delayed in ordering it because I didn't know if I would use it. It arrive one day last week and I haven't taken it off (except to sleep). I LOVE IT. It is the handiest thing since sliced bread! The day it arrived in the mail I put a few things in it and decided to test it out. Within a couple hours of putting it on, DH came home with a cut hand dripping blood everywhere. I bandaged him up as best as I could to get the blood to stop and then gathered the 2 little ones up and out the door we went on the way to get DH stitched up. About the time I reached the vehicle and was buckling DGD3 in, I realized I had forgotten my backpack. THEN it dawned on me that I was wearing the hipzbag and everything I needed to make a ER trip was in it. SOOO Simple!
This hipzbag revelation has happened over and over the past few days. Simple. Simple. The only thing I would change about it was to make it a tiny bit bigger because my Galaxy Note III sticks out about 1/2" above the hipzbag. I went looking for a tiny bit bigger Hipzbag and found it on clearance! THANK YOU for sharing about the Hipzbags!

Have to say, LadyM, that's 2 for 2 recommendations from RR. Both the hipz bag and the s pin mop. I enjoy both immensely. Of course I have people saying they could never get by with a purse that small. Love it when I go to Disney too as I use it as a 'fanny bag'. Everything I ever need is right in there. So thanks from me as well.

Hi You all. Thought I'd better check in and let you know I'm alive.

Lots going on here because I am new Clerk at Church. Also had to go to Tucson and attend a 2 day Presby meeting.

With the new Clerk job, I got a new email and have to have that page as my home page instead of SHE's so I don't see you all every morning - therefore don't post.

All is well here except my ankle. Dr. wants to do surgery but I'm putting it off until fall. If I stay off of it - it doesn't hurt and if it hurts - I've got the boot. So we will see how it is this summer.

Got to go do more filing so I can find my desk to do more Clerk work.

d dee hello!
d Nancy... dreaming about knitting.. now that is a nice dream.
d kathryn hello!
d Lady - trust your feelings as you always have. re sleep overs ... there were some people that we never allowed dd's to sleep over at or have play dates at their houses. We never really said anything negative but reinforced the rules in a kind way at our home for visiting guests and our kids. Our kids didn't have sleep overs until later. Sleepovers happened with those who we became friends with or spent time in their homes to get to know each other and their siblings. Kids that visited our house - definitely shared a lot about different families that they felt comfortable with or not comfortable with. I think that you don't want to create fear and isolation - but saying no to a situation you know in your gut feels wrong is what any good parent/grandparent does.
hi d helia... congratulations to you sweet dd and on her performance. how exciting
