Re: Wires down on Wednesday
very interesting about the race dhelia... I remember hearing about that when I was a child. It's too bad that the tradition had to be put on hold because of the canals not freezing.
Have a great day everyone!

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
They don't hold the race every year, blessed. In fact, there was a 22 year hiatus between races in 1960s and then 1980s. It is occurring with less frequency over time, though. They almost held it in 2012, but the ice in the southern section of the race was only 2 cm. thick and the weather suddenly popped above freezing so they called it off very last minute. . . . . .
I'm s2s-ed with self-care done. I'll put on my face when I leave the house. . I have gone through the financial pile, put all the tax documents I found in our tax file (I think we're still missing some documents - and now our 2014 giving file is missing. Aggravating. . . ), got rid of a couple items, and pulled out mail bills and subscriptions, etc. to pay now. I also went through our mail from yesterday and put everything where it needs to be.
We'll eventually send our tax info to our accountant in Austin, Texas. I still think that's kind of funny. My dmom thinks that's not a good idea. When we moved from TX, he told us he had other clients who had moved from TX to MI and so he felt comfortable doing MI taxes as well. His company (it's grown since we moved) has always done a good job, so we'll continue with them.
I'm off to pour money out of our account. LOL!

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
For me it is becoming down to the wire day.
MF called to see when exactly we are leaving and if we can get together before then. I've tentatively blocked off Tuesday (aside from our hair appointment which was moved from yesterday because our stylist couldn't work). It will likely be another evening get together, either here for dinner with dh until his conference call, or at a restaurant with just the two of us and I'll pick up Chinese for dh.
The testing has resumed but they got better music today, a longer symphony I'm not familiar with but it is quite nice.
The bedroom is made up and tidied, I'm dressed and my toes have been treated although I'm not seeing much progress. The cornstarch makes a mess but I do note my feet are damp when I take them out of my shoes so I've gone back to using it to keep my feet dryer.
I'm going onto 15's to see if I can make some decent progress. I'm in the kitchen with lovely jazz playing but unfortunately, I hear the tinny music during quiet times.
Twins: don't feel bad commenting on the cold. I whined about Wellington NZ last February when their summer temps were so cold (at one point they were colder than Sochi during the Winter Olympics!) and yet back here at home it was well below freezing and I had it good! It is the unusual weather and long string of it that is getting me down, just as RR sometimes gets worn out by long runs of extremely hot weather.
On the plus side, we've proven beyond a doubt that we don't need window coverings to protect us from the draft in winter! Now that the sun is coming around again, though, we need them in the kitchen to protect from the blinding light while trying to work or sit at the table.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
I can't believe the weather you guys are having, with more of it coming. And a whole road shut down (Cathy) and then there's Lynlee with tropical stuff and flooding. I'd like you all to take a short break, read this and then close your eyes and picture this scene:
2 weeks ago in my back yard there were flocks of robins. Some years we get them. They fly around and land all over the yard. They line up very politely and take turns 1 or 2 at a time and drink from the old round dog dish we leave under the gutter downspout. It almost looks like a deli where they have taken numbers! And it goes on for hours.
I have no idea how birds find this little dish. But they do and I love seeing them. Take heart, they are coming your way.
I am in a mess here with my paperwork. One checkbook is messed up because there are unlogged checks and papers scattered everywhere. Too many things going on at once and it stresses me out until I have that straightened. I got 1 statement made, 1 bank account reconciled, 1 legal form filled out, couple checks in the mail. It's a little start.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
I assumed the worst in somebody yesterday, got upset, and today, I'm very embarrassed about it, because I thought the worst.
When it all got explained and worked out, I felt embarrassed for jumping to conclusions. Then, I realized how I'm "HUMAN," and we all have our own lives, quirks, and daily situations to work out. It's life. I wished I hadn't jumped to a conclusion so fast. Why do I do that?
Oh, yes. That's right! I'm human!
On the TV news, they showed a pretty rose-pink "thing", which could be seen going across the sky. It was in Arizona, the desert SW, and people called to report they'd seen it. It was beautiful, against the dark early morning sky.
The base in the area said it was a gas released from a rocket they'd launched. It was such a pretty sight. Then, they said, "Of course, now there are "conspiracy theories" going on." It made me laugh.
For those who have wires down, I hope they're repaired soon. Does this mean you have no power, too? Sometimes, when our wires are down, we still get power to our house. Once, I was walking our kids up the driveway and stepped OVER live wires. I "knew" they were live, because the power to the house was still on. I had to get them to the school bus. Now that I'm an oldster, I wonder if I should have not done that, to be safer.
Probably, but I was young and foolish. Now, I'm just older and foolish.
I have terrible seasonal allergies from hiking yesterday. In Western WA State, so many plants and trees are in bloom. Today I have that sniffling and stuffy nose, itchy nose and eyes, sneezing, and a headache, which doesn't seem to go away very fast.
In other words, it's hard to think.
Luckily, I have generic Benadryl, which works well.
I'll baby-step my day.
Need to look at my routine index cards.
I have a PODA, which helps, too. It's desk day, but I don't want to work at my desk.
I'll maybe work on pen pal letters.
I'd like to start a pre-Conga though. It'd be nice to get "things" done today, 2 days prior to Conga day.
Harmony , It sounds like you're making progress!

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
a post didn't go through... interesting!
interesting d helia!!!
dh is doing cat litters
I did garbage detail and donation rush detail
dd younger is cleaning the family room (deep down clean)
dd older had a meeting with an advertiser for her organizing business.. but they want $1000 for a quarter page for one month. It's our local magazine. wow
2600 for a whole page or 2000 a month for a three month add. She was discouraged but dh and I and her dd younger gave her support. It's hard to start a new business and get your name out there.
okay time for the kitchen - apron on, wooden spoon in hand .... CHARGE... well more like CLEAN!!!!

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
That's expensive, Blessed, IMHO.
It sounds very challenging to start out.
DH is at the grocery store. He'll pick up mail on his way home. I hope it's come, but if not, he needs to take the garbage can to the curb, so can re-check then.
Trying to figure out what to do today.
Have a sore and swollen left ankle, need to ice/elevate, but need to exercise, too. Might baby-step activity today, I'm wearing my pedometer, so will work in spurts of time.
They say it's snowing in the Olympic Mountain Range this a.m. and some places have light rain today. It's dark and cloudy here, but I haven't seen any rain yet. It's such a stark contrast from yesterday, which was so sunny and warm and gorgeous out.
The pollen from yesterday's playing havoc on my head, from the neck up today though.

Re: Wires down on Wednesday
Making progress. The sermon is finalized and all the service is done except the prayers of the people. I'm taking a mental break and then will work on those.
I've also washed up the dishes from today.
The emergency alarm went off for about 10 minutes but once that stopped they seem to have finished for the day. Yay! Glad this is over. The music was this morning in dh's conference call and he was on a Skype call with a client when the second alarm went off.
Dh is planning to skip choir tonight. The wind is fierce and it is tiring to listen to it. I think that's discouraging him from going out.
