School has been cancelled here in anticipation of snow arriving today. We have absolutely nothing weather-wise happening at the moment with zero snow on the ground, so they are trusting the weather forecast is correct.

With the cancellation of school that means I have at least 7 extra hours today that I didn't expect. When I realized this, my first thought was THIS IS GOING TO BE A FUN FRIDAY! If it does snow today we will have time to frolic and do all the fun snow things. I'm hopeful to make some good winter type memories today.

Hopefully, I'll be moving, moving, moving, today.

No time to frolic although I will be singing in the evening. This weekend is a workshop with John Bell. I had the pleasure of taking a session with him in Atlanta and having him lead worship at the same conference and loved him. I'm quite looking forward to the weekend and introducing dh to more music. Tonight the focus is on world sacred music that is "North American tastes" friendly.

But before that I have baking to do and then the chili supper at church. And since dh doesn't like chili, we'll be stopping at McD's on the way to workshop in order to get him something for supper.

I'm up and we've done some more search and rescue (of wet things). Now I'm going to shower and get dressed so we can head out for Bradenton (to Memorial Service) in about an hour. That will be my frolicking today. Then we'll come home and do more checking. Dh's pillow fell behind the bed last night and I realized the case is a bit damp this morning -so he'll be checking to see if there's anything else under the bed (other than dust bunnies) that may need rescuing. Can I say I'm already tired. But it's nothing compared to what people in real floods and mud have -so I'm grateful. I have managed to head several things to the donation bin through this though -so decluttering is happening! Can I also say I'm a bit afraid to leave the bathroom until I know for sure the toilet has turned off?

Our situation is the opposite of LadyM's.

With a Weather Service Alert about black ice and road conditions in effect today, we have only a 2-hour school delay. As I look out I see lots of snow, but not as much as our school system's northernmost feeder area, where 7 inches fell, melted and froze solid, and where secondary roads haven't had time to receive county attention yet.

So I sure do hope they know what they are doing! Glad I'm not a decision-maker except for what my household will do.

Once I get off our own road (assuming that traveling it seems like an intelligent proposition when I look at it myself), I should be okay.

Good morning, villagers ~
This morning the radio DJ says we are at actual temperature of -19F. Negative 19 actual temp, wind chill around negative 30. Brrr! I'm glad I don't have to go out this morning. We are grateful that DH's car started right away.

The DJ keeps reminding everyone that it will be March 1st on Sunday. Even though we are expecting more snow tomorrow, it won't hang around very long compared to the snows that come in November. </Pollyanna>

I have a list of errands to run this afternoon. I have 2 boxes ready to drop off at Goodwill and that is my priority stop.

This is the kind of day that makes me wish I had a pair of long johns to wear under my jeans. My 1 pair of wool slacks are way too big, but I might be able to find leggings to layer under them. I won't be taking off my coat while I'm running errands, so it won't matter so much what I wear. Most of us around here go outdoors looking like the little brother in A Christmas Story -- "I can't put my arms down!"

Schools are still closed here today, Harriet and LM. They went 1/2 day on Wednesday when the snow was coming in - some forecasts had it starting as early as 2 p.m., so they started dismissing at noon. We were up to lower 40s yesterday - may be tricky getting to dmom's but I'm guessing I'll be okay. If I have issues I'll head home and try again tomorrow. High today is only in high 30s, but sun is out. Heading to shower next, cleaning lady texted that she is running late.

Dgd is up a few min. Early this am. I slept okay.
I need to journal but waiting for coffee to kick in lol!
Dropped some yarn off for dgds to play with yesterday.
Thurs. Yarn meeting went well. Glad I had that it gave me some extra mojo for chores yea for that!

Wishing everyone a blessed Fri. Today. No ToddlerN here today have been wanting to see something on netflicks looking forward to that!

Teamed up with LO in the kitchen to create egg/cheese/bacon on sourdough bread sandwich masterpieces for breakfast.

I totally agree! I would hate to be the one making that decision. Turns out that our school is the only one in the area that cancelled school today. Depending on how much snow is received in the next few hours, the decision to cancel school will either be a brilliant one or not. Most schools around here do not do early release. Once they commit to a day of school they stick with it. The majority of the children are bused from outlying areas (rural). Keeping to the schedule is better than dropping children off in the middle of the day at an empty home.

Home safe, and strangely the real problems were at the school turn-ins where snow was packed down to ice. We'd all stop on the ice for oncoming traffic, then slide while trying to find traction up the hills into the school. Lots of courteousness with everyone waiting far back for their turn - that made it less stressful.

There is such a difference to see regarding the roads and sides of roads after an actual snow rather than our usual "parfait". Snowplows can do so much, if snow will only fall. They can't plow it if it's not snow.

Dd skated a bit on our walkway because she wouldn't listen to me about shoes with enough traction. Sigh. But I know she is correct that once she gets into the school she won't have to think about that any more.

I had to get out of the car twice. Once to deal with a pine branch that had fallen across the driveway. Then once on the way back, to fetch the mail because the mail carrier's vehicle had pulled in so far away from the box that his track was useless to us. These were about the best conditions for that I could hope for, so I just parked in the middle of our road, and lucked out that no one else was traveling the road right then.

lucylee, never ride anywhere with a man during or shortly after a winter storm - you know that! The proper response to any question regarding a vehicle is, "Gee, I can't think of a thing we need, dear." ("Mr. Adventure", LOL) I hope children in your area had fun and many photos were taken.
