Singing through Saturday

If you haven't already guessed, singing plays a major part of my life. After my illnesses, I'd notice when I started singing spontaneously and took that as a sign that I was recovering.

How does singing (or music) play a part in your life?

Do you sing or whistle as you work?

Do you sing in the shower?

Or do you prefer to listen?

Yesterday went well.

The chili supper was fun. I got rave reviews for both the dessert and for the cornbread. We overheard people telling others to have the cornbread so that was a really good sign!

We left just 2 minutes after our planned departure time and got to the church with the workshop with over 30 minutes to spare. And still had to park at a school nearby. Dh immediately ran into people he knew (thankfully being part of the choir at the national church conference 3 years ago means he knows wider church people now.) That meant I could leave him on his own and hang with my friends. I was surprised at how many people came up to chat with me.

The first workshop was magical. Music lovers took the workshop and most could sing very well so the sounds John Bell drew from us were amazing.

We got home, unloaded and put away things from the supper and went to bed.

I'm up, just finishing up my breakfast now and then heading back. This morning's workshop is on commercialism and the church, no singing, so dh is dropping me off, coming back to work and then he'll join us for the singing workshop in the afternoon.

I'm really tired but hope that the singing will wake me up later in the day.

I love music and singing too, Kathryn. Used to sing in high school chorus and our church choir. Then I hit some kind of a wall and singing became more difficult for me -but I still love to do it. Find myself 'singing' along with all sorts of church numbers and we almost always have music playing in our car.

Been trying to post and take my meds for a while now -BUT just kept sneezing and sneezing. Hopefully I've stopped now.

Dh and dsonil were going to go to the flea market, but it's raining (I'll take rain any day over what many of you have been dealing with!) Hit some spotty rain on our way back from the memorial service in Bradenton yesterday but never hard rain. Still watching for robins, Sunny.

Had 1/2 an omelet left over and home fries the other day so am going to throw those in the skillet and warm them up. May even offer some to dh.

Stripped our bed and plan to get a lol going shortly. Then I plan to do a load of rugs, etc from our rooms. Had them all drying on the clothes bars but decided I'd best give them all a good wash. One set of rugs from our bathroom are practically brand new and wouldn't have needed a bath for some time.......

I have pulled out so many things and stashed so now have a "MESS" grandioso. Have things spread out in the living room and keep turning pages on books/booklets. Found an unopened puzzle standing on end near our desk last night. Thought it was okay but the water evidently seeped through the outer plastic wrapping. Can see one end of the box is wet. Will open it later and check the puzzle itself. If the pieces are swollen or damaged, it's just going out. Have to take our printer and office supplies off a tall covered bench today so we can empty it to see if water seeped in there and be sure the bottom is dry. This is a terribly wearing process and then I remind myself how fortunate we are not to deal with blizzards, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes (well, we could deal with that), mudslides. Gratefulness in my heart.

I'm back trying to have a voice to sing my mantra as I walk dog. ATM dedicating different rounds to many folk, family and others. I start out barely able to speak it, but it grows on me, and helps me feel better.

I sing from the heart.....but unfortunately the sound coming out of my mouth is less than spectacular. I try to limit my volume when I'm in hearing distance of others so I don't hurt their ears or distract them. However, i do love to sing and do so frequently when I'm alone. I crank the music up and let-er-rip.

P.S. I've heard Kathryn and Ken sing and they are AWESOME!!!

I'd love to hear K&K sing, LadyM. We have a fairly new person in our church who sings EXTREMELY loudly -to the point that people have moved where they were sitting. Have a feeling she has a hearing problem. Of course no one would ever complain. Even we now sit somewhat behind her, but that doesn't help much. But I still enjoy all the music.

Good morning all! I don't sing spontaneously that much. It's not that I don't enjoy music or am not musical. I certainly can carry a tune, can often pick out harmonies by ear in church - even better if there's music and I can read them, and I had a lot of good musical training eons ago: piano lessons through high school with a Univ. piano professor, so I must not have been too bad. I thought about being a music major for a while. Plus, I played violin and clarinet when younger. However, my voice is not special. I will sing with the radio sometimes. Most often in the car when no one can see/hear me. LOL! I will sometimes do dance moves in the kitchen when no one else is home .

I'd like to hear K and K sing too!!!

Yesterday was a bit crazy, I was out the door at 8:40 a.m., home for 30 minutes around 12:30, and then home again for good around 9 pm. I had the moms group leaders' meeting in the morning; work, tutoring, dinner out with dh and friends, and gassing the van in the afternoon and evening. Then, I did a quick clean out of my car in preparation for the early morning airport run I did today.

I just got up 30 minutes ago! Well, that's after I was up at 4 a.m. to drive a van load of S' students, including ds, to the airport. Ds is not technically in S' chapter, the Asian chapter, of this organization, but the chapters do work together and are going on this trip together. They are off to Guyana! I went back to bed when I got home and slept another 3 hours.

Once again, it is brilliantly clear and sunny here! I really wonder if we are getting more sunny days than usual this winter. Maybe that contributes to the cold, with the loss of a cloud blanket. It is still very cold, 12* right now - but not negative! No snow in the forecast. I looked at the 10 day forecast and it looks like there is a general warming trend here. It may or may not be accurate day-to-day, but a general trend over time might be. . . Our highs are forecast to creep into the 30s, hallelujah!! Today's high is just 21.

- district judged music festival; dd16 performs at 3:30 w/ the orchestra and at 5:20 with the band. Sight reading follows each performance. It is amazing to see these kids and the directors with the sight reading. They have 3? minutes to look at a piece of orchestra/band music and then must sight read it, playing together. Often, the judges give them a more difficult level of music for a better challenge. Do the directors request that? Must be. . .
- evening: relax, probably. . . .

Off I go to s2s and get this day going. Dh is now up too. He was very tired after his travels.

I stopped on my way through the living room and played a song on the piano. That is one thing I think about a lot, if we downsize like we're planning, I hope we will still have room to keep the piano. I have had it with me since I was a little girl. It's not a great piano, and the piano tuner told me it was probably only worth $100. It was a blond piece and we refinished it to walnut. DH fixed the legs so it wouldn't fall apart (bench). I have a lot of music in my head but sadly have no voice to sing. I got quite far with DGS last weekend; he was able to learn the first solo piece I ever learned after I'd been through the 1st music book. He stands around with his guitar playing quietly...a lot...every time he's bored he picks it up...and he's quite good... so when they're around there's lots of music.

Helia, you asked if the robins really lined up at the water dish - they sort of did! They all kept a wing's width apart from each other and 1 or 2 drank at a time and the others grouped around waiting patiently for their turn. There was no fluttering at each other to get their turn. We people should be that polite!

I have changed a file I worked on last evening. Remembered something and left DH a note about it and he told me what to add. Sitting here with my morning coffee. Going to do a Saturday conga.

Dee, I sure hope you don't find anything else wet.

Up a bit early today. Colder here outside. Journaling is done. Breakfast too chickens have been a fed. The laundry going.

We sing through everything around here, but I really prefer that no one hear me. Dmom and dh both say I am NOT a bad singer, but I am very self-conscious about my voice. I love to sing in the car when I'm alone, or anytime I'm alone, and I used to sing in the church choir -- but I'm a very nervous singer if I think someone is listening.
DH, DS, DDIL, and my Dmom all sing VERY well. They are the soloists and entertainers in the family.

So... to sing through Saturday... I would say I will whistle while I work, but I can't whistle either!
But I have high hopes for today.
Dmom has cancelled out on tomorrow's dinner -- she is still uncomfortable sitting for long periods -- so we have rescheduled her birthday dinner for Thursday. I will have to get her take-out for dinner tomorrow, and take her some bread. Monday, I will have to go by the doctor's office for a rx for her and then to the drug store, and take meds to her. Monday also, * hopefully * -- we will meet w/the antique lady.
Tuesday -- tax man, maybe...
Wednesday -- dmom's doctor's appt & shopping...
Thursday -- dh & I, haircuts... dinner w/dmom...

TODAY...
I am going to try my best to follow my cards and get some work done around here. I was just worthless yesterday. Ate like an idiot, then had stomach distress, then just wanted to sleep all evening. I will try to eat more intelligently today.
