Thriving on Thursday

Post by Harriet »

What are the ways in which you are thriving lately? We seldom "have it all together" :D (who am I kidding - we never have it ALL together ;) ) but we sure do feel optimistic when we count our successes and blessings!

Lynlee, thank you so much for the update last evening. Grateful to have seen it.

Lilac, also thanks to you for keeping us "in the loop". All best wishes to you and dh, being proactive.

So glad FelineFriend got to drop in Tuesday. Still noticing she hasn't posted and hopeful she is able to post.

Thanks to K and K in Transit for updates!

helia, that sounds like your dh has been really instrumental in helping someone who will now move on to another meaningful part of life - good job.

Harmony, that's so good that you acted on your worry and talked it out.

Ramblin', a sore posterior is a small price to pay for a safe descent and a story of the day that is so good, and does NOT include any falls! (Might want to check the seat of your clothes, however! Possibly a little wear and tear on the textiles? :) )

Ah, Harriet and I were posting at the same time. No worries, I'll transfer mine here.

Smiling Through Thursday

Good morning, villagers ~
Some days are best survived by attempting to keep a smile on our faces, no matter what occurs. This will be one of those days for me.

A 2012 study claimed that smiling facilitates stress recovery:
http://www.psychologicalscience.org/ind ... overy.html

How will a smile help your day?

This morning I need to finish filing paperwork for the sewing group, and write 3 or 4 checks to take to the post office and mail out.
This afternoon I have a long board meeting for the sewing group.
Then a possible meeting-after-the-meeting, which I'm hoping won't be necessary. (The person involved has recently been pulling some passive-aggressive nonsense which cannot continue because we are at an important deadline for action.)
I may or may not get a snack break between the meeting(s) and work.
At work tonight the boss is planning to train me on a few extra duties.

I woke up early so I have already:
* fed the cat
* tidied the kitchen counter
* finished drying a load of laundry, and hung up everything
* decluttered for 15 minutes
* cooked and ate breakfast (no coffee yet, will make that mid-morning)
* cuop

I will probably go back to bed soon to try to catch 2 more hours of sleep.
I will s2s after I'm up again.

Good morning! So far I'm feeling like smilin' and quite possibly thrivin'. I have a busy day today and I'm heading into it with as much positive thinking as I can summon up.

PODA/OMM for today:
-temple to sign cks this morning if possible
-p/u cousin at 11:30ish
-pick up meals for dmom and KFC for lunch with cousin and Mother
-cousin back home
-some down time at home?
-stamp club tonight at 6 - need to decide what I am ordering this month
-drop off at cleaners today
-need to rinse Moses foot with the hose if at all possible to keep it clean
-more concerns about Macs, but I am trying to let it go and observe for now - talk to vet tomorrow
-what else?
-thinking ahead to tomorrow:
----dMoses needs to get stitches out at vet
----Body work/Massage therapy at 3 p.m. - I think I need to confirm as unsure about time
----groceries?
----event tomorrow night if dh gets back into town in time.

So tired. Waiting for my bottle of water to cool down in the freezer so I can drink it and go to bed.

First, it is still Thursday here. I mis-typed when I said it was Friday. Obviously my brain is still up in the ether trying to catch up with my body.

We had a good visit with our industry friend at the coffee shop after our breakfast here at the hotel. Then we walked to the car rental agency and rented the car, but left it there because we didn't need it until the afternoon and have no place to park it here.

We returned to the hotel to put on sunscreen and then walked to the port to check out the ship. From there we walked to the nearest grocery store and picked up lunch fixins and the items we need for the cruise (chocolate, decaf tea, bug spray, more sunscreen.)

Along the waterfront on the way to the ship we saw Kaili's which serves amazing fish & chips (we were there last visit here) so we picked that as our spot for dinner.

The day was hot, especially in the sun, but in the shade with the sea breeze, it was very pleasant.

We took a bus back, getting off at the stop between the hotel and the car rental agency. Dh picked up the car and I dropped off the shopping. We then drove up to Perth to visit with our Ancients, there (she turns 90 this year, he is 98.)

We had a wonderful visit. They have moved into a wonderful senior's complex with a HUGE apartment with a HUGE patio (complete with power, lights and water) on the third floor. Their apartment is almost the same size as ours but open concept so the living/dining/kitchen are all one big room with the den off that area but with a glass wall so it get light.

Their 2 bedrooms are good sizes and they have a huge laundry room complete with a big laundry tub.

Everything has the luxury finishes and amenities we were hoping for. The contrast between their place and ours is night and day.

The complex also has a hospital building so if one gets ill they can be moved there. There are all sorts of activities, a library, a pool and a gym, plus a restaurant that is open a few meals a week. Although it is a 55 plus complex, there is a lovely play structure so little ones have a place to let off energy while visiting.

We had a wonderful visit and extended our stay by going out to Kaili's location closer to their place. We had the catch of the day, blue-eye trevalla, which was fantastic.

We left them at 7 p.m. and are back after dropping off the rental car. I'm going to try and get the travelog written quickly. Dh is writing me a program to resize all the photos for me.

It is quite cloudy here today; that is all right because that means the house won't heat up as much as in full sun. I don't think we will get any rain.

Was happy to see your good news, Lynlee and know you are relieved.

I slept better last night than on Tues night. I think I was keyed up from our dinner party with dcousin-S and her dh. (Dinner turned out good: pork chops with apple slices, sweet potatoes, cauliflower with yogurt & cheese sauce and tossed salad.) Anyway today I will finish up desk day for the week as all I did yesterday was shuffle papers, tossing junk mail and filing others. Now I need to pay the bills. After that is done I have some writing to do....answer letter and a planning list for the next two weeks in preparation for dfam#3's visit. I want to get some meals prepped and frozen ahead, and also plan some activities (places to go and things to do), although I'm sure they have ideas also. I know they will want to spend some time with ddil's ddad. I also have to check email -- probably delete a lot -- and delete some messages from my phone.

It is just a bit early for lunch, but I'm hungry (breakfast was toast with jelly and a cup of coffee), so that is a 'but first'.

A free day! No place I must go other than taking/picking up LO from school.

Yesterday I realized too late that I made a bad decision when I went by our bank to make a deposit. It was 30 minutes before they closed and I brought them 5 bank bags that were so full they almost wouldn't close. I had the bags ready earlier in the day but decided it would save gas/time if I deposited them when I took LO to karate lesson. His lessons are across the street from the bank. What I didn't think of was the time element involved for them to process the bags, which put them late getting off work. Hopefully I won't ever do that to them again.

Updated laptop - Microsoft Patch Tuesday required an extra long reboot this month. I haven't researched the updates but it seems to be more than usual. After reboot there was more updates so they are being in process now.

A life long friend (LLFriend) dropped by our home this morning in a distress/depressed state of mind. The 3 year old had written on his arm with a permanent marker and LLFriend came to see if I knew how to get it off (relative easy with hand sanitizer or anything alcohol based) LLFriend is tired of raising her grandchildren and actually said "I would rather die than continue doing this". The children fathers (multiple) are in process of getting custody (going to DHS required classes) so LLFriend does have a light at the end of the tunnel. I was appalled to hear her talk about what a burden the grandchildren are to her (in front of them). I was so very frustrated, angry and sad by the time she left.

Hello! Happy to read Lynlee's diagnosis.

I'm coughing more this morning but feeling a bit better.

Got desk sorted. I'm waiting for a supply delivery so I'm stuck here at home until they come. Last evening our tenant came with some $ and I went to update the file and noticed last year's whole file was not saved so I redid that...then I got to thinking how odd that was and I found I had started 2 separate files saved under different names. So, I've deleted one and hopefully I won't do double work again!

I'm feeling way better mentally with some of my visual spaces all cleaned out. I'm not good with clutter, it bothers me and adds a ton of stress. Going to continue with a few more spaces that have been omm for a long time.

And I'm feeling more hopeful that new job is finally started and going ok. New fill-in helper was ok but I don't think he's done this kind of work before...and he said he was "feeling it". I'll bet he was stiff this morning! DH looked like something the cat dragged home last evening! New checks arrived and a couple people paid their bills... so much omm stuff is gone it's a very freeing feeling.

Morning y'all...

Happy for Lynnlee's outcome as well.

LadyM... I know how you feel, I'm glad I can just stay at home today. I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere. Sorry to hear about your LLfriend LadyM. Sounds like she's on overload and just needed a person she could trust to vent. Perhaps if she is the main caretaker no one else has stepped forwards to give her some kind of a break. Hope her situation gets better.

Glad to hear you're feeling better Harmony. At least your dh's new worker is willing to learn. At least he can do the heavy work for your dh. That doesn't take much skill.

I am spending some more time today working on my genealogy. I enjoy a good mystery and boy do I have one.

House is in good order. Will do a simple blessing in the morning and refill my refrig. Its looking puny. And that reminds me I need to think about dinner tonight.

Waving to ya'll....Cya later

I need a little nap. I'm back home from visiting dmom with cousin. I enjoyed being with this cousin so much.We talked some about some of the "family secrets" that are out there, some of which I didn't know fully. She has always been a favorite cousin of mine and her sister, who is now deceased, was ill and there are a lot of similarities to my sister's illness.

I don't think that my Macs has moved from where he was when I left earlier and he didn't eat his breakfast either. Odd thing is that neither dog ate breakfast this morning.
