RRose, yes you are right. This part of the job is a no-brainer. Can you swing a sledge hammer and pick up the rubble - you're hired! The next parts require more skill but DH is an excellent teacher.

LadyM, I know that is hard to hear from your friend, especially after all you've done for your family. Not everybody has your energy or patience or heart. I've always thought your family has been extraordinarily blessed to have you.

Well, I've been working hard. I cleaned up kitchen. I swept out the shop. I supervised the delivery of a huge amount of lumber, put in the shop with fork lift. Thank goodness for our big tall door. Fielded a couple phone calls.

Then I sorted, shredded, filed, huge amount of files in one file drawer and stacks in different places around here. I can't believe that is all done. My shredder is sounding funny. Need to sort mail next. And eat. I forgot to do that today.

Not sure I'm exactly thriving today...
DGS was here for a couple hours, and will probably be back to spend the night late tonight.
Got my hair cut, stopped by jewelry store to get necklace that was repaired, and now must meet dmil's housekeeper in about 20 minutes.
Then I have to go by the doctor's office to pick up yet another rx for dmom... and I guess I will just drop that off at the drug store. Dmom wants me to help her get her Christmas trees down, but she probably will not want to start that at 5:00 pm or so... so maybe that can wait until Saturday.
I really feel like I have no energy at all right now, and I am not looking forward to cleaning out dmil's clothing today, much less taking down two Christmas trees.
And now I've probably put a lot of negative energy out there w/y'all. I apologize. At least I'm nowhere NEAR the point of LadyM's friend. Good gracious. I feel so sorry for her, but also for those dchildren. I truly love having dgs here, but I definitely need a break after a while.

Been somewhat nervous a good share of the day as I knew all the schools in our home district were on lock down from 9:30 this morning. At about noon it was changed to lockout. A couple of hours ago, ddil texted me that ds-A had just received confirmation (via fire dept) that they'd caught the perpetrator. Just came out in the news that this guy was 25, from a town on the other side of our city. He'd left several phone messages that he was inside a school (we have 6 or 7) and if they hadn't caught him by noon, he would start having "fun". Guess DGS15 called his Dad, very nervous, and DS-A was trying to reassure him they were safe. At this point he doesn't really know any more than we do. The guy is being arraigned in our small town this evening. Have no idea if he really was inside the school or not -or which school he was even talking about. Had all the school surrounded with police and helicopters flying overhead. DDIL had tried to text me to ask us to be praying -we already were as we got an alert on our phone from one of the tv channels up there. When she told me they'd caught someone, couldn't believe how upset I was. Thankfully it doesn't appear that anyone was hurt. We had really figured it was a student(s).

DD and dh just left to go to the lacrosse game between Mercyhurst University and Florida Southern. She's hoping to meet one of Mercyhurst's players whose name is the same as our DGS10 and he also has the "family" eyebrows. Will be funny if they're related -he's from a town about 50 miles from us up north. Then they're heading north to Gainesville for the Gator Nationals tomorrow. They'll be viewing from a suite belonging to the uncle of dd's co-teacher. Dh probably never would have gone on his own, but wanted to do this one day. So one more thing off his 'bucket' list.

Waving from Friday. It is Friday this time! When I said that on Wednesday I was jetlegged and didn't know what I was talking about!!!!

We are packing up here to be out of the room by 10. We'll leave our cases in the lobby (the lobby is locked at all times) and then go for a walk. This is our last chance for a walk on land for the next week.

Dee, what a relief for the schools that the scare is over.

Grocery shopped. Kitty grass for Tobias was huge hit.

I got a bday card into the mail for ds. Bought all the fixin's for his favorite bday dessert, specially requested, and got that made.

The day seemed very disjointed, pulled in a lot of different directions. HRH was away longer than usual, kind of a big meeting and then other smaller things that required being in and out, getting input from me. Dd was in a tizzy at school because she was supposed to get onto teacher's website and her phone died. Sigh. I ended up making a school run because of that to take her charger and cord! Secretary said I was a good mom. Hmmm... ... Maybe a good mom would let her have the consequences.

Dd did a long run this afternoon in the good weather, so we didn't exercise tonight.

OK, I admit it, I am an old-school librarian.

My boss was showing me her latest idea, to recatalog the books in the Fiction section when the authors have many different titles (like Debbie Macomber, Sandra Brown, Stephen King), to add the publication year to the spine label. Her reasoning is that most people either come in looking for the newest title from the author, or they find out they like the author and want to read all the books in chronological order.

Her plan was that then we would put the books from those authors in order by publication date instead of alphabetically by title.

I said oh, that's helpful info, but won't that mean we'll be doing more look-ups on the computer to see when a book is published instead of instantly going to the shelf to pull the title? She said she hadn't thought about that, she'll consider the plan some more.

Then later my co-worker informed me that they no longer shelve the books in title order anyway. She was trained to only put books by the same author together, but not take any more time than that to organize them further.

I need to ask the boss about that privately. I am sure that she recently made a comment to me that we need to be more mindful of putting books on the shelves in good order so we and patrons can find them quicker. Too many items are being lost and needing extra time-consuming searches.

I will learn whatever procedure they decide to do. But I don't have to like it, Sam I Am! Some things are permanently in my brain, like typing 2 spaces after a period or colon, and automatically shelf reading and moving the Stephen King books so they are in order alphabetically by title.

BookSaver, my first thought is that I don't believe people would understand the numerals on the spine were supposed to mean anything to them, so it might be somewhat wasted effort unless every patron happened to have a librarian to explain. I suppose she could create large signage to explain it. I seldom read authors who write in series, so I may not see the advantage. When I have read in a series, I kept up with it independently on the net and pretty much knew what the next book was going to be before I checked a library. (perhaps in years before the net, this idea would have been more helpful)

I recently mentioned to dd that reading Agatha Christie would be pleasant. Now, how could her books be identified chronologically, since she published back and forth between her Poirots and Marples and others? You'd still have things way out of order by shelving chronologically, so someone would suggest let's organize by series, then, and chronological within those, and my goodness what an amount of work you'd be doing.
