Yesterday afternoon with very little planning we had a 3 generation picnic. We picked up 3 pizzas, DGS17 and met DD and DGD3 in the park that has a large kids play area. LO and DGD3 ran the whole time we were there and were having too much fun to stop & eat. DD, DGS17, DH and myself had a good visit & shared the pizzas while sitting at the entrance to the kids play area (only one way to get in/out to the kids play area). It was a simply meal but OH SO SPECIAL (IMHO) after going through 6 years of DD being apart from the family.
This morning I worked the cards and were able to make a huge dent in the backlog. This afternoon I volunteered at LO school. I am so very pleased with the atmosphere at his little school. LO teacher told me that the change in LO is amazing - not only his grades but also his actions. She said LO asked to clean out his desk......she about fell over because LO has never cared how messy it was. Now LO wants to keep things neat. LO has also done the same at home - he has started keeping his bedroom almost spotless now with everything put away. I was told the ADHD meds might take him toward OCD. If wanting to keep things neat is OCD, then sign me up - I want a dose of it too! JK

I should clarify what I meant in my old-fogy-ness post last night about the library.
I wasn't talking about shelving books that are written as a series. For those, we have an existing method where the book number in the series is typed on the spine label and also written on top of the book; the books are on the shelf in number order. For example, Janet Evanovich writes more than 1 series. We have her Stephanie Plum books numbered in order and they are shelved together, and then the other series (can't remember the name) are numbered in order and those are shelved together.
No, I meant prolific authors like Stephen King who have written dozens of books, most of which are not in a numbered series. Standard library science procedure for hundreds of years has been to put those books on the shelf first by the author, and then alphabetical by title. It's the easiest way to find them quickly, which after all is the reason for putting anything away in its particular place, right? Put it where you and other people can find it?
According to my coworker, when she puts a Stephen King book away, she only has to find the shelves with his books and put the book wherever there is space, which makes them in random order. If a patron asks me to find the book Carrie, I will have to search the many, many shelves we have of Stephen King books until I find that title. (When I worked at this library before, I would have been able to go to the beginning of the King section and easily find Carrie in the Cs.)
If we don't shelve by title order now (I still need to confirm this with the boss), then I'll admit that changing to put them in publication date order will be a little better than being totally random.

Oh, I wish I could remember all the replies in my head when I get to posting!
I went back out and got the rest of my plants and got everything back home. I immediately got started and got the veggie garden done, all weeded, the soil amended, the seeds and plants in the ground. Then I started on the front and got the dead bushes out and the live ones pruned back. I got all the old landscaping material removed (I hate that stuff) which meant I had to cut it all around the plants. I had the old mulch raked out of the area.
Then DH comes home
and after payroll was done he started to help. I kept telling him to slow down because I can't move fast any more. Even with his problems he is still way stronger than I am. So he was moving faster than I could keep up. We moved the still-live bushes up to the right section and then planted the 10 new ones I bought across the front. They look pretty cute. I wish I could have afforded to buy the bigger bushes, but they were twice the money, so these little ones will just have to grow. Before we planted, we shoveled peat moss and fertilizer into the dirt. They should be happy in their new home!
He ran out and bought 10 bags of mulch and would have helped me spread it around, but I was too worn out. I will do them tomorrow. I wonder if I can lift those bags. He got the red kind. So now with our green house and the red mulch, we'll be in the Christmas house!
Hot soak in tub sure felt good. I had some soup and a painkiller for dinner. I hope I can move tomorrow.

We just got home dfriends. I haven't cuop yet, but wanted to post.
Dh's appt was yesterday at 11am and we didn't see the dr. until almost 1. He did not like the previous biopsy and wanted another one. He said it is a mass and has to come out. 80% are benign but either way, it is an invasive surgery. Yesterday dh had the biopsy and blood work. We didn't get out of there until 5:30. We went back to the hotel we had stayed at the night before. They had 2 rooms left and gave us the one we had had the night before.
This morning we went to another place for a chest xray. He was scheduled to be at another place at 2 pm for an MRI at 2:45. After we left the place where he had the chest xray, we had nothing to do. I told him we should go to the place where he was to get the MRI and tell them that he was available if there was a no show. Normally we would not do that, but we wanted to get home today and if he had one at 2:45, it would have been way too late to drive all the way home today. So we went in and she checked him in and said that if possible they would do it. At 12:22, a gal came out and said that there was a guy scheduled for 12:30 and they hadn't heard anything from him, so she said if he didn't show up by 12:30 they would do dh's MRI. The guy didn't show up and we were out of there at 1:35. We took a different route home. It was a little out of the way, but the route we used going up, the first 2 hours are on a narrow, hilly highway with no shoulders. That is fine in the daytime, but we just won't go that way when it's dark.
We won't hear about the biopsy, until at least next Thursday. Dh will also need to see a cardiologist before the surgery, so we have to get an appt for that. The dr. mentioned doing the surgery in April or May. We want to be ready as early as possible and hope it can be done in April. Yesterday during the biopsy, they did 3 different samples for the pathologist. If it is cancer, between these 3 samples and the 2 he had already had done, we would feel better having it done, sooner than later.
Both of dh's dsisters are having a hard time with the thought of dh having to have this surgery.
Dh has not read any of the information they gave us and couldn't understand why I was so upset. He doesn't realize how much cutting they will do. It is a really delicate surgery because of all the facial nerves. The parotid gland is in front of your ear. It is actually the saliva gland. They will start cutting there, around the earlobe and down either the front or back of the neck. As much as I would have rather him have the surgery in Wichita because it's closer, we are going to stick with this dr. because he is suppose to be the best at this. I will just be glad when this is in our rear view mirror!

Dh has been out smoking in the garage since we got home. He just came in and said he finally started reading about the parotid gland. He has to quit smoking at least 2 weeks ahead of surgery and for 3 weeks after. That is on the papers from the dr. He wasn't happy when I reminded him that if he had not started after quitting the last time, this wouldn't be an issue.
As we were waiting for his appt. yesterday, he commented that we should go through Wichita on the way home to go to Lum ber Liquid ators to look at hardwood flooring. After the appt. he commented that we would put that on hold. We are just glad that we had the good sense to not start on the bathroom. We know what we want to do now, but have not ordered anything or tore anything out. It will just have to wait.
When we got home there was a packet of papers that had been Fed-exed from the hospital on patient resources/guide. It beat us home, so they are efficient.
