Thinking Thursday

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

Safe in Cape Town after an uneventful passage around the Cape of Good Hope. Really, it barely rocked. Although a mannequin fell over in the shop and is lying there with her arm broken off. In our cabin, we felt nothing and things were still all in precarious place (i.e. the shampoo in the shower on the tiny ledge.) Over the whole cruise, the shampoo fell once in the shower but that's the only thing that ever moved out of place.

I'm exhausted. Have spent about 90 minutes packing but there's a lot of thinking involved - what am I wearing tomorrow and Saturday for touring, what will I wear Sunday/Monday on the plane (I'll shower and change overnight Sun/Mon during the 9 hours we wait for the second flight.) Among the 'stuff' I have to leave room for things that we'll use on the tours (umbrella, sunscreen, bug spray) so that we can put them away in the suitcase for the flights. And, while I gave away the games and art supplies, plus three books, I need room for the items I've bought along the way.

So it is all very calculated. The idea is to have the things well need for the weekend handy on top so I don't have to dig all the way through a packed case to find things.

Dh has the Crystal Crud, the bronchial infection that has been making its way around the ship. The first round happened before they got to NZ and the re-infection started as we arrived in Mauritius. There are several passengers with pneumonia. Dh is staying in the cabin or on the stern of our deck, away from people as much as he can. At least his coughing isn't bad today and we both slept well last night. I am also developing a tickle which I think might be moving towards the infection so we are just hoping we can keep going until we get home.

We did notice far less cleaning of public surfaces (elevators, railings) on this ship than Silversea. As well there are fewer passengers (600 people are on here for the whole 105 days whereas we seldom have more than 350 passengers on the whole ship with Silversea.) So I'm guessing that has a lot to do with the reinfection.

Good morning! I hope Ken feels better soon, Kathryn. I'm interested to hear about Cape Town.

7.33 payroll hours was my total yesterday. I still need to pull together lesson plans for one class, but it was 11 pm by the time I was finished with everything else, and this lesson plan will take some thought with a lot of picking and choosing, so I decided to wait until I was more awake and alert.

I'm enjoying a quiet house by myself right now! I'm drinking tea. I've said good bye to dd16, let dogs out, refilled dog water bowl, checked emails. It's forecast to get up to 68* here today with rain late this afternoon. It was 66* yesterday with lots of sunshine!!

Today:
- moms group, out 8:20 - 12:20. I might stop by TJ for more coffee beforehand. I was told we were good on supplies, but I'm not sure coffee was checked. . . I may end up in the nursery all morning since my child care liaison is home sick today. . . . bleh.
- finish plans for class #2
- payroll, out 1:00 - 6:15-ish
- Maundy Thursday service at the church at 7 pm; I will probably skip since I'll barely be home from work. I have no idea how dinner will get made in time for dh and dd16 to go, but I think dh might start it when he gets home, which may/may not be that early. . . . .
- dinner
- groc. store - I didn't buy the leg of lamb on Tuesday; the man at the meat counter thought it wouldn't stay good until Easter unless I wanted to freeze it, which I don't
- work: make a quiz for tomorrow; prep 1 class and 1 tutoring session for tomorrow
- go to bed not too late

I'm off to s2s now.

That's bad about so much illness on board Kathryn. I do hope Ken improves soon.
I hope you can have some good visits with your next plans.
Just begin.

I was up at 6:30 this morning when Moses whimpered. I was up around 2:30 and gave him pain meds. That was the best night the two of us have had since we came home from weekend trip. Both dogs are outside enjoying the morning.

Today I have the morning at home and dmom has a dr appointment this afternoon. I am so glad not to be rushing off somewhere this morning.

The trip to see dsis yesterday was long, as usual. I took her the "easter basket" in a pail and she was pleased, put the stuffed animal baby chick over with her other stuffed animals. I had researched and suggested we drive to a K rystal so she could get a K rystal burger but she said she preferred S ubway and ice cream, then she asked if we could do both, so we did. She ate three K rystal burgers (they are small, but I was impressed she wanted, and ate three of them!) So I felt good about her having a good time and enjoying the outing and burgers. (For those not in the south: http://krystal.com/menu/krystals/ ) Still, was late getting home, seems like traffic through ATL has been worse the last few times I've driven through.

I'm uneasy because dh is in such a snit these days. I think everything I saw is taken the wrong way or is in the wrong tone of voice. I'm certainly not without fault but gee....I need to catch a break sometime.

I'm really needing to simplify my life. It's stupid that this week is so busy that I had to see my dsis yesterday and had to miss the neighborhood women coffee and cookies yesterday afternoon. With traveling Monday, and Passover on Friday, and a dr appointment for dmom today, that left only Tuesday or Wednesday. DMacs missed PT on Saturday so I was taking him on Tuesday, so that decided it. I guess I could have scheduled his PT on Wed, and then he would go again on Saturday but I wanted to get him in early in the week.

Right now:
-refill meds/vitamins and take
-sort a mountain of laundry
-reboot the laundry (I rewashed a load that dd started on Monday that never got advanced)
-brush teeth, wash up, etc. and get dressed
-call dmom to remind about dr appt today

PODA for rest of day in no particular order:
-dr appt with dmom at 2:30
-pick up meals at JCC with dmom
-temple to sign checks
-communicate with dd re plans for tomorrow (she has dr appt, is she going to seder w us tomorrow night?)
-groceries today (or tomorrow?)
-bank, to deposit dd's IRS refund
-find the form that dh indicated that he gave me to take care of
-pick up repaired lamp for Gr R
-what else?

Done with that round, dbro had understood the wrong time for the dr appt today when they called the house to remind them, so I had to make another call to verify the time. It's always something!

-walk dMacs
-make the bed
-look for dh's form that "he gave me."
-reboot laundry
-do a refrigerator purge

(Twins)
Nancy, we have a lot of pollen here too. Glass tabletop on back porch is covered and I'm sinus-ey too.
Sorry there's been so much sickness on the ship, Kathryn.

Lucylee, how many 2X4's make up the beam? Should be 2 or 3 of them. We built a 2nd story on a home one time and we put double plywood subfloor down because they were getting a pool table up there. I remember how they did it, they got an a/c jack and jacked it up to 2nd floor. That's how they get heavy a/c's up onto high platforms, etc. I would let the movers handle that!

I am struggling today. Last evening I felt like I was just worn out. Today I feel no better. I slept ok but woke extremely early and couldn't tell why, so I got up for a couple minutes and then put the tv on and snuggled and finally went back to sleep for a couple hours. But I feel all groggy and tired. It's been a busy couple weeks around here. I can't wait for the weekend!

Load of desk chores done, brought yesterday's mail in, a LOL is almost ready for hanging. Have a plan for dinner. I'm afraid if I sit down too long I'll fall asleep.

LO went to school today. It is 3 day school week (no school on Monday Friday this week) plus today is party day celebrating Easter so he won't have much school time. But he made it!

DGD3 has digestive issues this morning. OH swell. Just when one is getting over it, then the other child starts.

The bathroom construction continues. They are cutting concrete today so lots of dust and noise from the saw and jack hammer.

I finally caught the critter that has been destroying my gardens!! It was a woodrat! One of the guys doing bathroom construction wants it. He raises a variety of things (lizards, snakes, etc). I'm thrilled to give it to him!

Today's menu -
B: Smoothies
L: Kitchen sink salad, deviled eggs
D: Taco's

And I am done again and staying mostly on track.

And again:
-reboot the laundry
-pick up dog poop in back yard before rain later today
-10 minute put away in laundry room
-get rid of 10 pieces of paper on my desk
-send email w jan treasurers report to temple treasurer, she apparently lost her copy

I had a phone call from dmom asking about dr appointment today. Dbro had reminded her but it wasn't on her calendar so she didn't believe him. It was on her calendar last week (I use a one-write calendar for her because they kept losing the paper calender) as an April line at the bottom of the March calendar, but once March was done she erased the entire calendar, including the Dr appt on April 2. I'm pretty sure about that because she did the same thing last month.

I need to leave here around 12:45, about an hour. Appt confirmed at 2:30.

Lady M, let's hope your wood rat doesn't have any friends out there! Glad LO is better.

((Harmony)) feeling yucky on top of being so busy isn't fun at all. Hope you can rest up this weekend?

Just lost a post.

We found out on March 17 the date of dh's surgery. I should have made the reservations right then. Dh's dsis passed away the next day and those KC reservations were the least of my worries. I have been in a continuous fog, for over 2 weeks. Today I decided I needed to get the reservations made. I wish that I had made them online but I wanted to see if there is a discount if you are connected to a hospital patient. Their cancellation policy is that if I reserve 5 nights of rooms they are non-refundable, but if I reserve them separately I can cancel any un-needed nights. While the guy was doing that, someone came along and booked the last 2 rooms for Friday and Saturday night. So dd1 and I will have to change hotels after 3 nights. If that is the only problem we have, I can live with that.

Dh wants to take a motorcycle trip and a camping trip before his surgery. He said if he doesn't make it through surgery, he wants to have at least done each thing, 1 more time. I must have looked horrified because he then went on to tell me that there is always the possibility that something will go wrong. I KNOW that, I just can't stand to verbalize it or even think of it.

Today at 2 dsisil has an appt with her oncologist to find out if her non-Hodgkins lymphoma is out of remission. She is convinced that it is. I talked to her yesterday and she didn't sound very good. She said the day before, she felt so bad that she almost returned to the hospital. I am really nervous to hear the results of these tests.

So sorry to be such a downer and even more sorry that I have any reason to be down.
