Monday Makeover

What can you take time to makeover in your life, today?

Examples:

1. Makeover your attitude and actually setting out goals for the day (I'm good at making goals, not so good at completing them!)

2. Looking at the way you do something and trying a more efficient way of doing things - Pam and Peggy were all for makeover your schedule to put all errands into one or two days a weeks to control the interruptions at home as well as to shorten time spent running errands.

3. Moving things around in your home to be more efficient (i.e. I still need to move my zip lock bags closer to the the food cleanup area and the odds & sods drawer contents to where the bags are now.)

4. Makeover yourself. Start exercising, put down that soda, make dinner instead of going out to eat tonight (all three of those are on that to-do list that I'm bad about getting done!)

I'm hoping to get to the balcony project today since we'll have no power and need no power to do the project (aside from vacuuming the balcony and the styrofoam packaging.) So at least the balcony floor will be made-over today.

Dh is still in bed. He had a terribly rough night and asked to sleep in when I started to stir at 6:15. I was just at the 8 hour mark so ready to get up (when I'm bed much longer my back starts to hurt.)

Knees are marginal today but not as bad as yesterday. Marching (deliberately lifting the leg, bending at the knee and putting it down) hurts less than walking. But that has me taking smaller steps.

I'm just about done tea and chocolate. Dishwasher is emptied and put away. Hot water is boiled and in the thermos so if I need to wash something, I have hot water.

I'll go dress myself. There will be hot water for part of the day but our bathrooms are all windowless and little daylight makes it to their doors so I need to do the most of my s2s before the power goes off, just to be efficient. Also need to check if my hair needs straightening.

But first I'll have breakfast and let dh sleep a little bit longer.

Oh, BTW, while my laptop will have power, we'll lose all but emergency internet (I have a data stick but only enough data to check email.) So you probably won't see me online much until after 4 p.m.)

Thanks for opening the thread today, Kathryn.

DH and I are pondering a big makeover decision in our tv viewing. We have had basic cable ever since we moved to this house Oct. 1993. The cable company sent a letter saying they are going around town replacing the lines with fiber optic, and will soon be stopping service to the coax cable service. We don't have any problem with them digging in the yard to run new lines. The problem is that having someone install new lines in the house will mean a huge effort to clear the way, and it wouldn't just be my work this time because DH would have to do a major clean-up in his mancave.

Thinking about doing all that work is making us consider a major change, to look into what would happen if we dropped the cable and switched to using an antenna. Neither of us really watches enough tv these days to make it worth the cost of the cable service, when there are other options with antenna and online. Our public library has a huge selection of DVDs and they've even started buying several cable tv series collections (Game of Thrones, Mad Men, etc.) as soon as they are available.

We just need to make sure we can get decent reception with an antenna for local channels, especially going into stormy weather season.

Right now I'm waiting to see if DH is going to take my car to work. His car sounds awful and he needs to Call the Man to see when it can go to the car doctor. I told him yesterday that the weather forecast all week is supposed to be nice and I can walk to work if he wants to use my car today.

odds & sods

What is "sods", Kathryn -here I guess I would refer to that kind of drawer and "odds & ends". Just curious -the little differences between us are so interesting. And of course we live so close to the border that many are the same or quite similar.

Booksaver, we only have very basic cable in our bedroom here -up home we don't have cable at all any more. We do have a R oku which works off our internet. And I just bought an A mazon F ire S tick since dh took the r oku home with him. I'll take this one back & forth and plug it in our bedroom TV for dh up there. This way I can leave the r oku up there all plugged in and ready to go for him in the spring. Of course I don't really think there's going to be that many more years (if any) that he'll be going up home before me. We'll see.......... But we do subscribe to H ulu P lus and N etflix.

I got bit right on the outside ankle bone while we were at the airshow on Saturday. Sure it was fire ants as their bite is different than a mosquito. Trying so hard not to itch it! Makes sleeping difficult at best.

Makeover....let's see. My makeover today will mostly deal with jobs I need to do at the desk -pay a credit card bill, write a letter to our school up home and make out checks for same for our DGDZoe's Memorial Scholarship. Not going to be able to contribute quite as much as usual this year. Been an expensive year for us, especially after paying dear old Uncle Sam about the most we've ever paid (haven't had to pay for years -till now )

Make over Monday hmmm... I guess I could try to continue making over the spare room and shred as much paper as possible.

Amazing what some sunshine and getting out from under temple obligations does for my energy level! Dh got in around 10:45 last night - thankfully not too late and I didn't have to go out to get him. He called at one point and was first on the standby list for the flight that left in two hours, and was debating whether to wait and hope to get off standby or to try to take shuttle home, which would guarantee him getting home at least.

The sun is out today so I'll work on getting some of the things I bought planted (red geraniums for front porch and herbs) into the ground. Dh doesn't have bowling tonight so will mow the yard and I'll do some outside patio and front porch clean up. Soon I need to have patio and porch and furniture pressure washed - easier to pay someone to do it and it doesn't take him long at all - but I'll let pollen season subside a little more.

My exercise routine us getting a revamp. After working in the yard all day I walked with a friend last nite more of a stroll to get the kinks out. I am not as stiff as I thought I would be. Yea! Got one sink emptied.

Doing a make over of the back yard. Branches to move and twigs to clean up this week.

I've completed the 'makeover' of my checkbooks. Paid our credit card bill and wrote a letter to the person in charge of scholarships at our local high school up home. Wrote checks from 2 different checking accounts for now. Hoping that the amount I sent will cover the amount of our scholarship -also asked for the date of the deadline. Though the award is given in June I'm sure it needs to be in there by later in May at the latest -if not before. Going to leave the envelope open for now in case dd wants to add some to it.

Dsonil had dd up till after midnight last night looking for his passport -which he doesn't need (for I.D.) until next Wednesday. He was sure she had put it somewhere (and probably I came into that equation as well -but I have never seen it -thankfully). They finally found it =where he put it. DD said he was quite apologetic this morning. At least it was in a place that she would have never put it. My suggestion is that they get a particular spot and holder for all his important papers. This is not the first time he's had to have something they couldn't find. And I'd be willing to bet he doesn't know where those things are now either. end of RANT. DD had come to my room about 10:15 to ask if I had perhaps seen it in my 'travels'. NOT.

Cable company is coming this afternoon to put in "echo" for our internet. DD's internet extender evidently stopped working all together and they don't even do that any more. The new service is $2 more a month which she felt was worth it. Just dawned on me that they'll probably be in our room too as this goes on wherever there's a cable connection. It's okay -our room is quite presentable. She had her room readied for the repair man but said this morning she now has to put her room back together. I'm sure things got pulled from EVERYWHERE last night. Right now there's modem/router just outside our door in the office. DD realized their extender wasn't working as she couldn't get her F ire S tick to work in their bedroom. This is quite a large house and the normal range just wouldn't reach to the other end of the house.

I will be on the road tomorrow to see dsis so no desk day tomorrow. Some of my reluctance to go last week was the cough, some of it is driving ds' little Honda Civic, which feels almost like a little kiddie car to me. But I need to go. I'm so pleased to have a quiet week.
