Sunday Happy Mother's Day

Lost my 1st post. Then went to do some gardening exercise before the day got underway. H has been fighting a cold is better today after chicken soup last night for dinner. Happy mom's day everyone!

Got a card yesterday from our grandchildren and a $50 Disney gift card from both boys' families. DD and I will enjoy a meal when we go to EPCOT later this month. We're going to try going later in the day and stay through the evening -for cooler temperatures, hopefully.

Watching major league lacrosse from up home right now. Their home field is at the University where dd graduated. Just caught a shot of dgs10 (he's ball boy for the Rochester team). We're able to watch live via the R oku. Last week we got a great view of DS-R and ddil#1.

Talked to dh briefly. He said (and they've said on tv) it's a gorgeous day. But I see via the TV that what was clear blue sky is building clouds -they're expecting t-storms later.

Have to remember that I have a church council meeting tomorrow night. Also need to remember I need to call our cable company up there re: our internet!! Dh is looking into our local phone company's internet -about 1/3 the cost. Question is, can they come into our park? We'll see.

Church was nice. Sort of a low crowd - seemed odd since it was the holiday. One lady had a pew-and-a-half full of people of all ages I've never seen before, though, so she was beaming and happy. And they were wearing red rose corsages. I knew I'd never be able to talk to all of them, so I just made a big deal of telling her how impressed I was, LOL, which they all heard. She was laughing out loud at that. And I know they were all happy if she was happy, so I feel as though I welcomed all.

I think next year I'll go buy a fresh-flower white corsage. That would be nice.

Minister went on and on about mothers in heaven, and dd reached out to pat my leg then - and there I am right in the choir loft. Yipes. I was so proud of myself just smiling about it and happy to hear it and didn't snuffle up a bit, able to sing the next song fine with no red nose!

Little one-year girl has taken to waving her arms. So children's message leader, who was in the middle of "He's got the whole world", grabbed her up in arms for the "He's got everybody here" part and let her wave her arm out at the congregation instead of the leader. Huge hit.

Back here at home, dstepson came over by surprise with a big "Mom" card for me. He is so sweet. From here, he and dd16 called dsecondmil together and stayed on the phone a long time. I was very happy about that.

HRH has made frozen banana "shake" for "the children" so I will go join.

Buffet was a huge hit with the family and in-laws too good food & service.
Got to see dson's house improvements afterwards.
Did some knitting this a.m.
got ten eggs,
watering back yard now.
I have a plan for dinner.

Question -- what does OBE mean, LadyM? Did you decide books were or were not allowed in time-out?

Good day here, I guess... dh has been a little grumpy, but he was pleasant enough through church at dmom's/my old church and lunch, which involved a 45 minute wait. I could have done without that myself, but there is not much choice on a day like today.
Dmom was much happier with us than w/dbro's gf, I think, b/c gf didn't go to church OR lunch... she "didn't have anything to wear to church, thought she brought a skirt but she didn't..." and she was "afraid she would get lost" coming to the restaurant alone. Good grief... she would have made 1 left turn coming from dmom's house, about a 5-6 mile drive, I'd guess...
DS called to wish me a happy Mother's Day. (He's out of town this weekend but will be back tomorrow.)

I guess we are going to Wmart now, get that out of the way b/c tomorrow looks busy.

Oh -- and the back door of the Tahoe will not unlock, will not open from the inside. It's always something, huh?

Lucylee: the Tahoe back door has a switch on the door itself that you'll see when the door is open. It is the child-lock switch. When engaged, the door will not open from the inside (to stop children from jumping out into traffic.) Common issue - we 'fixed' the Mercedes Emirates sent for us in Cape Town. Yes it stops the client from getting out before the driver comes to open your door, but it is inconvenient when there are two people in the back seat since the driver has to run from one side of the car to the other. The driver had no idea and apologized saying he had to get the door fixed, so dh just flicked the switch over and showed the driver what he'd done so if it got switched back, he'd know the fix for himself.

Long day.

My calf which has had a charlie-horse like cramp on and off for a week went out badly as I stepped from the car at church this morning. Ached so bad. I had already just taken to ibuprofen so there was nothing I could do for the pain which was at a level 4 when sitting, 5 when trying to stand. I was ready to cry during service, made worse because I was in the choir loft in front of everyone. I also had to do the reading and prayers. It started to abate during prayers and got down to a 3 when standing and 4 when walking but nothing while sitting. By after lunch it was low enough that I could stand for my 2 services and still go shopping afterwards (but using a cart as a walker.)

The pain was bad enough during church that I considered cancelling my services and going to the hospital. So I'm happy I didn't have to do that.

Seems ok now.

Had good luck finding things for the balcony at HD after church. Then we had dinner at McD's since that is a favourite for dh, I'd already blown my diet for the day and I wanted him to have what he wanted since he works so hard supporting me with this retirement home ministry.

I bought a wrought iron stand for hanging baskets, a bracket for the wind chimes and some plant pots. Also got the green outdoor carpet to fill in the 2 - 4" gap between the tiles and the balcony sides. The others used river stone but their tiles weigh half as much as ours do and I'm freaked out enough about the weight on the balcony as it is, I don't want to add another 160 pounds of stone. Luckily none of the stone was what dh had in mind, anyway, so my solution (cheaper, lighter and can't wash down and block the drainage) will be tried first. At worse, I'm out $30.

After IKEA this week, I might go back to Costco if I don't find artificial plants to finish off the rest of the balcony. The prepared baskets there were much less expensive and nicer than the ones at HD.

Talked with dd once I got home. She had a great weekend at the ComicCom here. She is relieved I don't care about seeing her today. We've booked lunch on Thursday unless I'm at the doctor then. Will make my appointment tomorrow.

Thanks, Kathryn! It seems to be working sporadically now -- and it is only the driver's side door. So there may be something more going on, but I'm going to check for that child-protection lock. At least it's not one of the front doors, so it's not an "emergency" situation.

Also, LOL, in the "when it rains it pours" category -- last night dh practically took the trash compactor completely apart, trying to figure out why it has started making this "pucketa pucketa pucketa" sound. It sounds exactly like a baseball card in bicycle tire spokes. But we could not find anything to account for the new sound, and we are in a situation of "watchful waiting" with this also.

Well, groceries are bought... maybe going to a movie tonight -- the Reese Witherspoon cop comedy with (I think) Sophia V-i-can't-spell-her-name.
BTW -- movie review -- Do NOT go see The D Train, with Jack Black. It is NOT funny enough; it is extremely gross, in some ways it is depressing and stupid -- a grown man going to unbelievable means to impress classmates for upcoming reunion. It is horrible. You would not BELIEVE the lengths he goes to, and then how he reacts afterwards. It is just really, really bad. Do NOT waste your money.

OBE = Overcome By Events. That is an acronym used at my payroll job years ago. It was used when a decision was no longer needed.

No decision made on book reading during time out. I am such a big supporter of reading that it is hard for me to put it off limits.

Church went well this morning. I received one of the special gifts given to Mothers during the service. Nice but I kinda wish they would have recognize someone else.

Family gathering was very enjoyable. Attendance was down a bit but not because any drama - just because everyone is busy doing Mother Day activities. We had 22 for lunch and enough food to feed another dozen or so. I was told several times today that our home is perfect for these types of family gatherings and we should hold all future gathering in our home. I'm okay with that. The little ones had a blast playing together. They had several bikes and scooters to ride. They also played football and baseball until their little faces was red and they had to stop and rest....then started again.

It's time to get DGD3 and LO into bathtubs.

Happy Mother's Day!

I have been in a funk. We lost dmil 24 years ago today, which was 2 days before Mother's Day that year.

I had taken dm her card with the leftover gift money and gave it to her on Wednesday. I have bought her and I each a 9 x 13 size crockpot. It locks. You can bake something in the oven and then keep it warm in the crockpot carrier or you can cook in it. I didn't have room to take it to KC with us.

This afternoon I mowed the backyard, the east side yard and had half of the front yard mowed when a wheel came off. The large bolt/screw that holds it on, broke off. I threw a hissy fit. It couldn't possibly happen when dh is able to load it and haul it in for repair or fix it himself. Grrrrrrr Anyway dh said he will call the place he bought it and have them pick it up and repair it. I just really didn't need that to happen today.

Dd1 has been over and brought a beautiful card with cash. Dd2 called several times and told me she has a gift and will bring it later or tomorrow. I told her not to worry about it. She is busy doing things for the Friday night graduation party.

Feeling a bit on the puny side, h is better but still on the mend.

dil has some irises to share I am going to sort out some of mine and will be putting in a diff. Bed of them putting color varieties together.

Dgd is looking for work for funds for summer camp this will be great there are some things we need help with here.
