Wednesday Celebrating STRONG Women

Post by BookSaver »

As I told DSisIL last night (see the post about DMIL the Stubborn Woman), we both have stubborn in our genes.

Her mom learned it from her mother -- in her 90s, every time anyone asked DH's DGma how she was, she would reply, "Ornery!" I learned it from my mother, whom DStepDad would always call, "You Stubborn Dane!"

Let's admit it, that is why both DMoms have been so strong and independent all their lives, which has gotten them through a lot of very hard times.

Sometimes the only way to make any progress is to be stubborn. Let's celebrate that today.

Remember the WWII poster from England: Keep Calm and Carry On.
Carry on being a stubborn and strong-willed woman, and do what needs to be done.

Good morning, Booksaver!

We used to suspect that God wasn't ready for my strong-willed grandmother and that is why she lived until over 100. I remember her firing the wall paper hangers and doing the job herself because they weren't doing it 'right'. At age 96!

I'm up and at it. Short night. Lots of discomfort with twinges of pain.

Need to get moving now. The half hour of physio before getting my day going is making me hesitate to start the day. I'm afraid of the pain while doing the work (the stretches do involve pain but then it feels better after.)

Good morning, gals. Need to cuop from last night. Our internet has been out for whatever reason. We had pretty good rain storms last night but no lightening?

Things have been sort of hectic around here -I'll do an update in J&C later. DD does seem better than she was on Monday for sure. She's not sighing big sighs every other minute and she was laughing some last night and overall getting her good attitude back.

Dsonil is off today and tomorrow. As a result I found myself lying in bed and dozing off again until about 8:20. I like to be up earlier than that. I still need to take meds, have breakfast and sip a cup of coffee.

Can I say that I'm 'lost' without internet -can't get here. My phone is just too hard and of course my k indle wouldn't work either without the net. :|

I really need to ramp up my game toward getting things ready to go north. We're moving forth 'as if' here. I've been lax at getting the daily things done and certain projects I want done before I leave. Then of course things pop up that require me doing somebody else's job. That never ends I guess.

I got two letters yesterday. One was denying coverage for dh's shots he got at the Dr's office in April. Not sure what I have to do with that issue now. Says something about "RX" at the bottom which I assume is 'prescription' but M edco wouldn't be giving out the shots so not sure where that's going. Then there was a letter from the dealer where we bought our car last year. It's a certificate for a free NYS Inspection "due soon", certificate to expire one month from mailing. Okay............ Except we bought our car in August and the inspection isn't due until then and I don't think we want it two months early. We got a $25 certificate from them at Christmas which also expired in a month and of course we were down here in FL.

Trying to make a few reservations for this summer.

The ferry to France wants me to email all my personal info (date of birth, passport number, address, place of birth) to them in order to make a reservation. I'll send them the info via fax if they can tell me there is room on the dates I want, but I'm not randomly emailing everything needed to steal my identity to someone on the off chance I'll get on the ferry. I understand they need that info, just as airlines do, after all I'm going to another country. But airlines gather that info via a secure link, not email which is the same as making up a poster and putting it beside the highway and hoping everyone who reads it is a good person.

In the meantime, two more hotel websites fail when I actually go to book a room. One of them is Quality Inn's corporate site. It did the same thing a month ago. This morning it was even worse, went to book and it gave me a page not found error. Found another way in and the prices were $20 more. Went back to the failed way and the prices were now higher. Tried to book, failed. Tried another hotel chain and got as far as entering my credit card details before it failed. Now I have no idea if I have a reservation or not with them, and no idea of their cancellation policy since it wasn't on the website.

Really, making a reservation at a hotel should not be this difficult but all hotels in Newfoundland that I've tried have been equally difficult. I have to either email and ask for availability, or the booking engines that they have fail. I have 8 reservations to make. At over an hour each (after choosing the hotel) this is going to be a multiple day job.

Good morning! I saw Helia mention me yesterday so thought I would check in. Dd and I got home Saturday about 7 pm from genealogy conference, and the four of us left Sunday am for HHI. Dkids drove a second car and sounds like they will return home tomorrow, while dh and I stay until Sunday. Beautiful weather, lots of sun and all of us together and mostly getting along.

Need to start looking at next week, I will need a trip to see dsis and it's a short week w holiday. We will actually go within about 30 miles of her but dh doesn't want to prolong the trip home w a visit.

Love that analogy, Kathryn. You are so right on!

Well, I've managed to work through making the bed, taking meds, eating breakfast and now am sipping my cup of coffee. Then it will be on to the dishes from last night. I didn't want to do them after I ate as I knew Dsonil would be eating when he got home -after 8. So last night's and this morning's are still awaiting me. Want to make that W mart run in a bit. Will try to get some extra steps in. Did 10,000 on Monday but only 3,000 yesterday. Shows in my morning BS and weight. So really have to give it a big try today.

Need to make up a PODA for today. Don't know what I'll make for dinner, though I'd be good with the spaghetti we had last night. It was yummy. However, I turned the heat up under the sauce to get it to the 'boiling' point and was going to turn it to simmer. Came in the bedroom and forgot what I was doing. Next thing I knew dd was yelling to me. It was burning & she was trying to rescue it. We dipped out the sauce down to a point. We still had a really big pot -put it in another and started soaking the sauce pan. I've boiled water in it and scraped with a plastic spatula but am having trouble ridding it of the burned on portion where the pan curves up. Does vinegar help?

Good morning to everyone. Hmmm strong willed. I always think the reason DH is able to get through our multiple problems easier than me is his temperament. He just plows through things, where I get stopped in my tracks by nerves.

I like that.

I am really tired today, not enough sleep last night and up way too early. I've spent most of the morning so far in the shop with DH. I need to get my act together and get something else accomplished.

I've managed to get the dishes done but not much more. Dsonil has wanted to talk, talk, talk. He admitted that he's pretty much a pessimist (no fooling -we knew that) and as such is continually afraid gd will end up back here one way or another and the effect that would have on their marriage. That's not going to happen -dd would never allow it to happen and she would be that "strong" woman, no doubt.
