Thursday Through Thick and Thin

Post by Harriet »

"Through thick and thin" means being determined to continue progress, even when the going gets tough. It's actually an abbreviation of an older English phrase, "through thicket and thin wood".

How are you determined to make progress through thick and thin today?

I am taking a quick rest between determined stints of housework here. HRH has the lawn mower out and also the bothersome tree will be taken down today. Dstepsil will come by here after dropping her dog at 8:30 grooming appt to squint at my house  and give me pointers on what a pro cleaner would do. She and I will pull all the furniture out from the walls of the front rooms today and clean, then change out the decor (the hanging quilts are a 2-person job) and we want to get into dd's room and see what the corners look like! (yes, dd was warned!)

Yikes, I didn't see this post, Harriet, and I was posting away in a new thread -after posting in Wednesday night's thread.

There are a couple of things I want to accomplish today. One is to make a W mart run and the 2nd is to finish shredding dd's books & books of old checks -dating back to 2000. :D I'm down to 1 box now. Just realized I absolutely have to put up meds for a couple weeks too. I have 2 extra pill boxes & may go ahead & fill those ahead so that pre-trip job will be done.

I also need to take 2 pairs of jeans back to S am's. I had ordered them some months ago for dh and figured he'd take them home with him for work. But he decided they were too big. Thought I'd give them to dsonil but dd says he's ultra particular about his brand of jeans. Okay........ So I will try to return them or someone is going to get 2 brand new pairs at G oodwill. I also need to go to K mart. Have a $10 gift card and I need new undies so will use it toward those.

I'm up and s2s but that's all -oh and the bed is made -can't "not" make the bed. Same as I can't take anyone else's clothes out of the dryer and not fold.

I do need to make progress through "thick & thin" so I don't have a ton to do the next week or so. And through "t&t" I need to get my 10,000 steps in. Only did 8,000 yesterday. But I do know for sure now that the only way I'm losing weight is by getting those steps. Diet is good and as low as I can go but I don't move much (on the scales) if I'm not moving my body.

Good morning! Up early putting out fires, lost key (found in work shorts in the hamper and a payroll check to DH at the road as he drove back by for it). Anyway, it's always good to get an early start.

After yesterday, especially. I was so wiped out from the day we had Tuesday and all the work clear up into the wee hours of the morning I couldn't keep my eyes open. Finally at 4:00 I crawled into bed and slept until 8:30 at night! DH didn't get any dinner before going to church, but they always have pizza there for the kids anyway... so he and I ate supper at 9:00PM. Can you say off schedule?!

So today, feeling a bit better, though DH seemed a bit wiped out when he stopped by for the key...

Ran the little sweeper around and the damp velcro shmopp for the spots and sand in places. Unreal how quick it accumulates. Oh, I have a question for those of you using those spin mops...watched the ad on tv for the umpteenth time and noted they are saying it eliminates having to vacuum first. What is your experience regarding that? Do you still really need to vacuum? Boy, that would eliminate a whole lot of time if I could do that!

Dee, how is DH's knee?

I need to work on a big big project for work today. Just about everything at my desk is caught up except this and one other.... but this one is difficult for me because DH took the class, I didn't and I'm not just sure what forms I need to set up... and I don't really want to sit and read a big book...sigh...

Harriet, your trip into big city yesterday reminded me once when visiting stepson's family we got a map given by the chamber and took a walking tour all around, looking at really old row and victorian houses and really enjoyed seeing it all. I think I could be a city girl! Maybe if there was some green space close by, like a park...

I'll tell dh you asked, Harmony. His knee seems to be progressing well. I get a little afraid he may overdo it a bit -especially since he's back to work now. Keeping fingers crossed that this keeps on improving so that he doesn't need a knee replacement. At least not now or the near future.

Finally got meds and breakfast done and am now sipping a cup of coffee. I may go put up my medicines while I do that.

I was walking last night and my right big toe started getting really irritated. I thought it was rubbing but as I've gone through the night and into morning I really think it's arthritis rearing its ugly head in the joint. I've put a bandaid on to at least keep it from rubbing today -I hope.

Glad to hear Mr. DeeClutter's good report.

LOL, Harmony, these were looming skyscrapers, though. It's all well and good to say to yourself you can remember where you parked by the landmarks there, but when you're completely unable to see those landmarks after walking just a few blocks it doesn't help much! Dd and I walked one block too many in the first direction to get back to car and ended up trudging uphill unnecessarily, through "new territory", lol.

I was complemented on the photos I took because nearby art and statues were reflected in the glass facades of buildings behind my subjects. In all honesty, I didn't know I was doing that at all - they were just walls to me at the time. Dd did say to me later almost the same words you did, though - she was really impressed with the city world after we had left and she thought about it. At the time, we were both nervous. Organizers had talked about bringing horses to the ceremony for realism, and I'm glad they didn't.

I had a green drink for breakfast and HRH cut up a cantaloupe. The kitchen smells fruity.

I didn't know about "through thicket and thin wood", Harriet. That is interesting.
I'm off to work at the other location. After the nightmare I had last week about getting lost and being late, I actually did make a wrong turn, but found my way with my usual "No, I will not turn around....it has to be THIS direction!" intuition. This morning I will be approaching the turn from the usual direction and should have no problem. Have a wonderful day, everyone.

I'm determined to make progress on my increased exercise routine through thick and thin, which could have a different meaning in this context. . . I'm trying to keep "thick" at bay.

I'm home from the moms group picnic. I left at noon and it was still going strong. I had to leave, though, too much to do before I leave for work. Before the picnic, I just did the bare minimum necessary for walking out the door - and responded to one email.

I'm changed and ready to go for a jog! I hope to have about 50 minutes at home after the jog to make some DPCs, finish the a.m. routine, and work on class prep before heading out to catch the bus to payroll.

Nothing on the schedule tonight, which is nice. We're not hosting anything or planning to go anywhere. I will make my Boston trip reservations and then try to help dh with Iceland. He finally made a couple reservations in Reykjavik, but things are already pretty booked up (surprise, surprise!) - and expensive to boot. And apparently we need 2 rooms with the girls. I think we have the first 4 nights covered now. 5 more to go. .. .

Good morning everyone! I had HOMEWORK last night! The big boss wanted information by 845 am today for a 900 am meeting! When did he tell us about this? At yesterday's meeting FROM 4:00 TO 4:22!!! When do I leave work? 4:25!!! I had to be someplace at 630, so I could not stick around later and it was web research so I could do it at home RIGHT? WRONG!!! My computer was so slow I was able to do NOTHING on it whatsoever. Not research for work, not my hotel reservations, not webwork, NOTHING! So I crammed it in under the wire this morning.

Stuff that DID get done yesterday: errands, 30 minute weeding (1 large trash bag), disgusting dead bug cleanup (where are they coming from?), put out diatomaceous earth for future bugs.

I tried to use the vacuum to get the dead bugs, but it was not charged. I am charging it now, but it may be dead. I do have a shop vac, but it is heavy and cumbersome for just a small area by the back door. It would not run while charging. If it is not working properly tonight - out it goes! Then, I will get (next paycheck) a small dustbuster type. I have hardwood floors, so that should be all I need. Unless it's too expensive, then I will use the shop vac.

I think I will do the reservations over lunch. I guess one thing on my list should be to find out what is plaguing my computer. A restart did not fix the problem. It is not only the web that is slow, it is everything.

Back to research.

A big household push here, partly with dstepdil to work alongside for a couple of the hours. We chat constantly while we work, so it never seems like much time with her. We always look up at the clock and are surprised. Yet with two of us, so much seems to get done.

All the furniture in LR and DR moved out into the room and baseboards and walls cleaned, floors mopped with Murphy's. Both large quilts are changed out for summery-looking ones. Front bath deep-cleaned, kitchen looking good, hallway vacuumed, stairs swept.

HRH had many stories to tell about the tree coming down. He was so impressed with the men who swing around, cutting limbs in a certain order so that everyone stays safe. They raked the whole area after themselves, which was not really necessary, but helpful. HRH has a "slice" of the tree trunk to show the grandboys the rings and let them try to figure out the age of the tree.
