Happy Birthday to helia's dd17!

I just walked the yard with dstepson and we (mostly him) got some low-hanging branches and sprigs cut back. He noticed a wasp nest just getting started at my back door (yipes) and got that down. Dd let the hens out while we were all outside. HRH and dstepson had gotten some work done earlier, then taken me out to the nearest Mexican restaurant (loooove it) and they came back to work further while I was with dd at her induction into technical honor society. Very interesting ceremony.

Hopeful for Blackie. Very good you were able to get a small kennel from your friend. That will help.

Twins', ds is too bright not to catch on to engaging conversation when he wants to - he probably doesn't bother sometimes, though. IKWYM about seeing another "side" of your child in a different situation, and being grateful for an ability you didn't realize was there. Do you mean you noticed this when he was chatting with friend or with dd?

Fitbits and such - dd35 has a competitor to the Fitbit. She wasn't thinking about it in terms of sleep until I talked about the chat here. She synced it with her phone and we immediately saw her sleep from the night before. She won't have much consistency to watch, though. The very next night our baby boy cried all night.

Dee, our Village and I am blessed to have you here as our dfriend!

Kathryn, you really do see all sorts of goings on from atop your vantage point there, don't you! I'm wondering if the signs on the island are saying no swimming or boating near those rapids?

RRose, Blackie is a cute pup. He was lucky that you found him! Hope you find his humans soon!

I gave myself a home perm this afternoon. Turned our nice and curly! Must have been fresh chemicals because I have a sinus headache and my eyes are burning and watering. All will be better tomorrow, though!

Talked with my dsis (Harmony) this afternoon. She is having more computer troubles, but otherwise as busy as ever!

We had a thunderstorm yesterday evening and this time it didn't skip around us. There was sheets and sheets of rain, lightning and thunder. The wind knocked a few of the dead branches from our oak tree and the lightning and thunder lasted about three hours after the rain stopped. Weather has been good today.

***Well that was quick, Rose. I just saw your new post and am glad to say Samson is back with his people again.

Harriet, congratulations to dd accepted into the tech. honor society. BTW, how is your dgd-C doing?

Sunny, the signs are put up by the kayakers just letting people know they are OK and not to call 911. They often leave a spotter on the island as well but that doesn't solve the problem of people calling from the road.

There are no "Do Not" signs. Unlike the US, in Canada there's a lot less litigation so if someone does something dumb, they can't sue. Especially in the case of the island since it is in the middle of the river and belongs to neither province. The only one to sue would be Queen Elizabeth since it is Crown land.

I had a nap on the balcony once the construction ended for the day. That was lovely (although noisy with the rush hour traffic so I put in earphones and dozed to the radio.)

Dinner was rushed - we had pork chops but started them late and then had to rush out the door to Wednesday night walking club.

Back from that. I have 9400 steps now. I'm sweaty though so dug the fan/heater out from under my desk, plugged it in and put on the fan. The a/c is running on the sun side of the apartment so I don't want to open windows until after the sun sets.

Speaking of sun, this is the time of day and year I'm blinded by the sun at my desk at night. My desk faces east but the sun comes in the north window beside me at an angle where it can hit the east window and then reflect into my eyes. Must go find some place else to work for the next 30 minutes or so. The kitchen needs cleaning up and since the sun is coming in off the balcony now, that means it won't be at the sink in the kitchen.

Weren't we supposed to hear something new from a second meeting from Dee? I've been checking in periodically but haven't seen any news...

What a cute name for that little puppy... Samson! He must be pretty tough if he travelled very far in those circumstances!

DS came over to get a stereo system he had left here. He looks so tired... "weary" dh said. I know he is worn out from dealing with the new house, dealing w/dgs and sick ddil, and his own travel schedule. I feel sorry for him, but OTOH, I don't want to "make things too easy" for them, as LadyM once kinda warned me about. I think I will offer to keep dgs tomorrow night or Friday night though, so they can celebrate their anniversary.
IF dh feels better. His knee pain seems to be moving to his back, and he has been on the heating pad all day long.

Harriett, it was ds chatting w our hostess who was a twenty-something Israeli. She's several years older and much more worldly than my kids and is a "real live wire" in dh's words. As I said, ds was witty, attentive, kept up w the conversation. Gives me hope that he will some day actually have a relationship!

Long day, I left at 1:15 for massage, then visited mom, met dd for a pedicure and attended the temple bd meeting.

Tomorrow I'm on the road to visit dsis.

Sunny, dgdC is well, and impresses the pediatricians. She does seem slim to me and I am hoping to see her put on some "baby fat". Dd16's ceremony today had to do with engineering - I really didn't know there was a Nat'l Technical Honor Society but then I didn't know there was an Art one, either.

I got a second load of laundry done. Recyclables and trash to the cans.

Off to bed now. I'm a bit thick in the head and it took ages to reconcile one bank account and one credit card account plus pay the bill. I'm not behind at all (really trying to avoid getting way behind again) so dealing with bills as they appear instead of batching them and I'm keeping up with data entry into Quicken. So there's no excuse for how long the task took.

Dishwasher is finished, laundry is finished and put away and I just need to print the Sunday School Certificates for the minister but will do that in the morning.

Thanks for clearing my mind Kathryn. I find the differences in the ways and customs of our two countries fascinating.

Harriet, it's good to hear dgd-C is doing well. She seems special to me because my ddad's dmother and her dmother were both named the same as your dgd, pronounced with the long i. His dmother was called Lena; and dh's dmom's name was also Lena. Re: the honor soc. ....I 'd never heard of any but the original National Honor Society.

Where IS everyone??? This has been a very quiet day in the village. Hope all is well with Dee & family...

* and tried to go to cleaners but they have suddenly (since last week, apparently) changed their closed day from Thurs. to Wed.

Now, on to my reward of reading in library book...
