Re: Freeing Friday
Good morning everyone! Last night, I made the knit and crochet group that I have not been able to get to since November, due to my new job changing my schedule. They do have a Saturday get-together, but that is when my OTHER knit/crochet group meets. I was complemented on the wonderful highlights I had. Except I don't have highlights, it's gray hair! At least, I will never have roots show. That ended at 9 pm, so all I had time to do was pick up meds at the pharmacy and visit an ATM. I have made dinner reservations tonight and attempted to return a DPC. The phone number has an instant busy signal. Not really a problem since I was just going to tell him that I am no longer looking for work. I didn't sleep well because two of the cats had a fight ON TOP OF ME! I flung them off, and they stopped fighting, but continued to call each other ugly names for a while.
Tonight, I have dinner with a friend. After that, groceries are essential as I am feeding DD13's youth group Sunday. Also, really need to get that checkbook balanced and do some webwork.
Ever since the swamp cooler has been working, I have a funny smell sometimes. It resembles cat or mold type smells. However, the vents are all on the ceiling and even the baddest bad cat cannot cause trouble there. The only floor vent is the heater intake, and the heater never had any smells. It could be mold, but I replaced the pads, so where would there be any mold?
Harmony: All houses come equipped with dog cages. They are disguised as bathrooms, and can also be used as kitty isolation wards.

Good idea, Elizabeth! We usually put her in a bedroom. She doesn't tear up things, though she does constantly get into the garbage cans and empties. You'd think they never feed her. She is overweight and seems obsessed with food! We cannot leave butter out or loaf of bread, she will eat the whole thing.
Helia, about dnephew who managed to graduate.... thinking about other threads around here ..... he has a baby about 1 year old and no contact with her mother or the baby, though he tried a bit. Like I said, he has no support...so did not deal with that very well. We have no idea what he'll end up doing to make money...if much of anything.
We sound like a busy village here.
Me too. So far I have cut up chicken and put in refrigerator; sliced up big stack of cardboard things in garage for recycling; vacuumed mopped and dusted whole house. Sheets all washed.
Next up: inflate 1 bed; put sheets on 5 (everything's done from washer & dryer); ice cake; wrap present; swipe bathrooms (3). Doesn't look like I'll get a nap. I'm getting really tired.

Re: Freeing Friday
CM called and we ended up meeting at a favourite burger joint of hers that we've been meaning to try. Dh didn't order a combo so lunch was ridiculously expensive but good. And we had a great visit. So much for my diet today.
We got the music for Sunday and have practiced it enough to 'fake it.' I've just loaded it into my music folder.
Dh is back on the phone with the woman from the guest house. Her manager in Grenada can't get into the website, even though dh and I and the woman can.
I had to turn down a preaching gig because I'm away. Sigh... so far it is my only offer this summer. I do have email to send about preaching at a nursing home.

Re: Freeing Friday
Hello, hello!
Y'all will be amazed at me -- I was up in time to go by the mall before my dentist appt this morning.
Now... granted, my appt was at 11:00, but I was still impressed.
I have had a fantastic day so far!
Called the pool table man and left word with his wife for him to come the week after the 4th of July
I went to B elk -- I always want to say B elk's, but I think it's just B elk, right, Harriet? -- and got dgs some clothes for his bday, which we will celebrate a week from Saturday. I had already gotten additional T homas the T rain stuff, and a little toy fire truck, but wanted to add some clothes to it b/c * especially if he gets in the preschool program * he will need some more clothes. And he needs some different stuff for church, IMHO.
Dentist appt -- NO CAVITIES and the hygenist said I was doing a great job with my teeth.
Took time to browse at T uesday M orning store -- do y'all have those? I think someone mentioned it here once. Well... I wasn't overly impressed, although dsisil has always found fantastic buys there. Maybe I just wasn't in the market for anything they had today.
T arget, O ld N avy, and one other store, and I don't think anyone around here has any bathing suits that any decent grown woman should consider wearing, but I managed to find two pairs of shorts that fit very well at O ld N avy.
Treated myself to a box of 4 mini cupcakes at G igi's
Reward for good check-up.
And -- this was the best part -- drove down to the plant where my ddad used to work, to see if the park they used to have was still there. IT WAS. I took pictures of all the playground equipment. So many memories there -- we used to spend every 4th of July at the party the plant would have for their employees, with fireworks, games for the children, sometimes musical entertainment... lots of fun.
Then I got the oil changed in the car, came home, & paid electric bill.
So my time as Queen for a Day was over.
Talked to dmom on the phone also.
Rose, Jurassic Park was very good, so far as dh and I thought. I mean, it's about what you'd expect, I guess, but it is pretty intense. We did not see it in 3D, b/c dh and I both dislike wearing the 3D glasses over our regular glasses and don't feel it adds that much to the movie -- but this one would probably be pretty good in 3D.
DS and family have spent two nights in the new house. DGS apparently LOVES his new room and his new bed. Ddil said last night when they started to bed, he just walked into his room and got into his bed all on his own. However, ddil saw a mouse last night, and she was home alone!
She was NOT happy about that, but I don't think she was completely freaked out about it; said she'd let ds worry about it when he got home. (I told her to put out sticky traps and start stuffing all areas around pipes/etc w/steel wool.) Dmil did have a bit of a problem w/mice, so I hope they can get this all under control soon. The pest control lady will be coming again next month, so they can talk to her about it if they continue to see them.
Oh -- today's topic! Thanks, Nancy! I will free up tomorrow by getting my stuff packed for our trip today. Or at least, ready to pack. We'll leave Sunday, so can't pack everything ahead of time.
Helia, what kind of shoes did you get, if you don't mind saying? I'm always looking for shoes that feel good, b/c I do have difficult feet!
Hope things stay calm for the weekend, Harriet.
Yes, Harmony, sounds like you have things well in hand for the gchildren's visit! WTG!
(((LadyM))) for tedious paperwork...
(((Dee))) Be careful!
That IS a mysterious smell, Elizabeth, b/c it sounds like you've done everything.
Waving to blessed... Kathryn... and everyone else!!!

Re: Freeing Friday
Mice are one aspect to the house I don't miss. Actually, there's a lot about living in a house that I don't miss and very little that I do miss! At the moment, I can't think of one thing I miss, except maybe my forsythia bush and the oak tree that we grew from the sapling that grew up from the acorn sprouted oak tree that dh brought home from school when he was in kindergarten.
We went to a lovely concert this evening called Body and Soul: Jazz, Jesus & Wisdom. It was an expansion of the worship that was done at the Cracks Festival last fall with the Moderator of the United Church offering wisdom from poetry as well as the Bible and two local jazz musicians. It was divine.
I'm going to concerts tomorrow night and Sunday night as well; those are at our local neighbourhood festival (but have two 'big' names playing.)

Re: Freeing Friday
Have been running around getting needed items for dd35's family's visit here.
Everyone arrived safe and sound.
So glad the floor was mopped very well because the baby is all over it crawling. But he is becoming a walker fast.
Yay - they spent 2.5 hours with dfirstmil before continuing the drive here, so that is a big load off my mind. I have really needed to know that someone was giving her some attention while we've been needing to spend time with dsecondmil. They got absolutely great photos, too.
lucylee, it's difficult not to say "Belks" when you know the store - everybody says it. True, the logo is "belk". Anyone who has shopped there over very many years just doesn't say it that way, though. They are calling it, more literally, the Belk's store (possessive regarding the family name). Plus, that's just what rolls off the tongue.

Re: Freeing Friday
I'm sitting here in a stupor, very tired. What a day! Everything on my list is done... 5 beds made, 1 inflated, couch bed pulled out, all the food cooked...7 loads of laundry done (and I wasn't behind, either). I could just keep going and going doing things. Do we ever get every single thing done?
Harriet, enjoy your family this weekend. Mine will be here till Tuesday, though DD is going off on mini vacation tomorrow so it will be just the kids and the dog and us.
Was keeping DD company on phone as she drives, about an hour away now.
Little difficulty earlier trying to get something done in office. Computer all updated and fixed nicely, but same program does not come up for scanning and it's a whole new learning curve. Document went into a bmp file (huge) and wouldn't attach... how did that ever happen? Dunno. I need to spend some more time figuring all this out. Feeling like this stuff just never ends...
G'night!

Re: Freeing Friday
((Harmony)) Right there with you.
This is what happens to me, too. That by the time all the kids arrive I am tired and need to sit, while they are excited to pile out of the car and get moving! I simply cannot have unmopped floors or surfaces that worry me, when I know little hands are on the way. And that's been constant and will be constant until dgdC is out of toddlerhood at the least. Yes, I will do what they tell me is "too much". I will be sorry for the things I didn't get done and beat myself up for the things I miss. Yep.
