Saturday Sparklers
Does anyone else remember writing their names in the air with sparklers as a child?
I hope all of you celebrating have a wonderful July 4th today!

Re: Saturday Sparklers
I had a reasonable sleep last night but too short. Woke up sore at 5:30 and never got back to sleep due to the light in the room. I even took an advil but it didn't help.
Kitchen is tidied, tea and chocolate is done, and I've ordered more toner for the printer. So some things have been done for the day.

Yep, k in C I did that one Christmas or 4th at a cousins house.
I fed & released chickens and let the dogs out of their house next door for them. Coffee is done. Weare going to see if farmers mkt. Is going and a store run dine out might be on the docket as well. Got some more fresh toms. We took the tkthe p off the shade thingie so the fireworks would not harm it. Wind today in the forecast is a concern. I started knitting a child's hat this one will make ten for the Christmas in July project.
Neighbor go to the Indian res up the road and get illegal firecrackers roman candles and LOUD m-80 band that scare the carp out of mevevery yr. I hate this holiday. Cannot wait for Sunday.
Time to finish my journaling & qt.
I need to clear the table.

Re: Saturday Sparklers
Happy Independence Day!
I remember writing my name with sparklers!
Can you buy fireworks where you live? When I was a child in upstate NY, we only bought sparklers and other small fireworks. Usually out of someone's trunk. They would go over to Canada, buy a trunk load of fireworks and then sneak it in and sell it. Very black market. LOL
Here is Oklahoma, we have firework stand all along the road, I was so shocked to see that. We even have a building that is like a supermarket for fireworks, aisles and aisles of them.
DH used to buy lots of fireworks when boy were young, but now we just enjoy the neighbor's display.
Great Day to All!

Re: Saturday Sparklers
Fireworks are now available almost everywhere but only at certain times of the year - before Victoria Day and Canada Day. At other times, I'm not sure where you'd buy them because the roadside stands and packages from Costco aren't available.
When I was a kid, there were some but they were pretty bad. The Flaming Schoolhouse would be the big finale on Canada Day on our street. That's probably why I remember the sparklers. Now, the show in our old subdivision is almost as good as the fireman's display used to be. Things have really changed now that trade with China has opened up.
I'm s2s and have done my exercises. Just wasted an hour having a snack and surfing the web. I'm hungry enough that I'll have lunch now and hope to 'last' until dinner time with that. I'm hoping to go out tonight for fajitas but they won't fit into my 1200 calorie diet so I need to get moving and earn some calories to 'spend.' If that doesn't work out, probably just chicken sausage for me and a premium hotdog for dh at home.

Re: Saturday Sparklers
I was always a little skittish about fireworks -- even sparklers. I do remember holding sparklers as a child, but I remember I was always nervous about it. No surprise there -- I've always been nervous about everything, right?
My ddad had a Roman candle go off in his hand -- not HIS brighest moment, I guess (didn't mean to make a pun there, but it works, huh?). That REALLY scared me to death. He was okay -- just a lot of shouting, and running into the house, immersing his hand in a pan of cold water. But it was a pretty memorable moment from my childhood, LOL!
Dbil and dnephew used to always want to do fireworks, and that REALLY made me nervous, b/c dnephew is something of a daredevil.
Anyway -- fireworks are available everywhere here seasonally, and we have those supermarket-type stores at all the state lines. But dh and I never do them ourselves. Tonight, for the first time in YEARS and YEARS, we are planning on going to large display nearby, with dgs. But I haven't talked to ddil yet, so -- y'all pray all goes well with that plan! She was all for it Monday, but who knows which way the wind will blow today...

Re: Saturday Sparklers
Thinking about going to the food booth for a 4th of July hot dog for lunch. The booth is benefitting the local cheerleader team so thought would help support them. I was extremely tired last night and went to bed at 8:30. Left the 'party' at dd's/ds-A's. I was just wrung out. Today I'm trying to rest a bit and elevate my leg. Know it'll be a long day from about 4p.m. on. We have old neighbors coming (guests of DS-A) and a friend of DD's is coming. Then there's our whole family -we'll all gather at DS-R's since they have the best viewing spot (for fireworks) in the whole park. It's always a mess and a long wait getting out of here. Nicer for us now that DS is on this side of the park. We just hop on our golf cart and come the back way and are probably in bed before we even used to get partway from DS-R's when he lived on the other side.
Here's dh for lunch. Will see if he wants to go to the food booth........

Re: Saturday Sparklers
Lucylee, I'm glad your plans are working out. I loved sparklers as a kid; we made shapes and swirls in the air with them. I remember being disappointed when I'd buy them for my kids as they were not as fat any more and lasted less time. We have fireworks tents around here, in July and some at the end of the year for new years. I'm glad I don't have a dog.
Sparkler story: one year I saved some and put them on DD's august BDay cake...very festive until they set off the fire alarm. Thinking now why did we use them inside the house???
DH always wants to go to the fireworks. He makes a big deal about sitting up on the lumber rack so we can see better, and I'm not into all that, it seems like it spoils the fun for me...why does everything have to include more work...but in the interest of being a good partner, I have made up my mind to not complain. I feel like a Beverly Hillbilly...but whatever.
I slept in a really long time. I need to get back on a better schedule.
Spent a couple hours straightening the mess on my desk and paying bills. Now there's yesterday's laundry to fold. DH is out pulling weeds and it is very very hot outside. I hope he does not want to go to the beach tomorrow, it will be mobbed this weekend and there is frequently not enough parking. Y'all have a nice holiday!
