Draw on your strengths Monday

Post by Harriet »

Today turns out to be National Drawing Day for the U.S.

What do you draw?

What do you draw ON to take the best care of yourself, your home, your loved ones, your community?

The graphite pencil, btw, was invented in 1795. That was the start of something big.

Morning y'all...

First thank you Blessed for your kind words and wisdom. I had already conveyed much of you said while I was with my son the other day hoping he would have a better understanding of what his wife might be dealing with. Both I and my brother were raised by a very criticizing father and interesting enough, both decided to break the pattern without even consulting with each other.

Nancy...My dgd's meltdown and behavior occurred after she had eaten her lunch. And yes, if she hasn't had anything to eat for a while, she can become very cranky. It's something we are all aware of so we try to stay on top of it. The basic problem is she has been the center of attention with her mom for 2.5 years and is not dealing very well with having a sibling vying for her mom's attention. My dil has breast feed both her children and continued to nurse my dgd until her brother arrived. And I think that is also contributing to the problem.

I was able to get alot accomplished yesterday and Sweetie actually commented on how much he likes our new bedroom look. That room is almost complete with the exception of a few more items.

Last night I sat outside in my lanai reading my book and watching the eclipse. Of course that meant I didn't get to bed until after 1:00.

Up, showered, dressed and ready to start my day. I have several phone calls to make and then its off to WM.

Aww LadyM...I love baby kittens. what a kind son you have :D

The grocery plan and pickup were successful. HRH just finished bringing it in. I guess we each DRAW ON our strengths for that, in that we make the list in tandem, back and forth at the computer, lol, thinking of things at the last minute. (Yes, we are those people.) Then I pick up and he brings it all in the house.

This time out, I went by a drive-up cash machine (associated with our bank, conveniently) and got some cash for an envelope for a bday present. Yet again, the present that was coming in plenty of time ... is delayed. (why always the presents? items without a deadline come early.)

I'm now to listen for a car horn beep (because my entire family is so well prepared, lol) whenever dd42 can break away from her hectic household and she and I are then riding out together to pick up some things in another direction, for the party. We tried to make a more specific plan on the phone, but two different dust-ups (or possibly pratfalls) between boys (and possibly dog) happened as she's trying to think, so we're winging it. Someday, I keep telling her, she will have a calm home.

LadyM, I had several thoughts on your last-night's post and no time now to say much. Thinking of you.

d harriet the pratfalls with the boys (lol and possibly) the dogs made me laugh - My dh did that to his dear mom all the time - His mom heard a huge noise down in the basement and found dh - (a young teen), laying at the bottom of the stairs. Mom in law thought he died - He then told his mom that he was practicing how to fall without getting hurt - He thought it was great and his dear mom got another gray hair. :D

Have fun with your dd!

D rose - you are such a loving person - I say it again - they are blessed to have you. You will be such an example to your d dil just as my d mil was to me. praying it all balances out for d dil. It's temporary and a lot feelings for the bigger siblings. Praying that as she becomes a big helper with the baby and mom takes one on one time with her she will slowly move away from these big worries and feelings and gain confidence.

d lady good morning
waving at you!
I have been thinking of twins too!

d harriet thank you for the start!!! I woke up late (9:14 am as I went back to bed at 5:30 am) and haven't gotten things done yet and it is already 11:25 :o week. You gave me hope today with drawing on ones strengths! Thank you!!!! I needed that.

Home from a successful trip out.
** Dropped DS13 at a home a couple of miles away. He is cleaning and mowing their dog pens (9 dogs) for them.
** Drove 20 miles in the opposite direction to take Micro to the groomers.
** Drove 25 miles in different direction to spartan dealership. We are now the owners of a new zero turn mower that will be delivered this afternoon. The past several years, we have chosen to push mow our yard for exercise, but it has reached the point of becoming overwhelming. We had both agreed when push mowing became too much for us that we would either hire someone or buy a riding mower. We decided we are at that point to make a change since the 8" of rain made the grass grow like crazy combined with DH coming close to heat stroke. We can still push mow if/when we want for exercise.

Next up -
** check on rabbits and kitten
** make tuna salad
** finish Routine #4

Nancy, I knew you'd be the one most like to already be drawing!

Well, blessed, that's nice in that the fellow will probably remember he was working one day when he thought the bike was cool.

LadyM, I wanted to say that I'm sorry Ds13 had to encounter such a sad situation for the kittens but glad that he could give the assistance he did. I would say human interaction is important now, assuming they were feral. I hope vet sees an optimistic future.

We need Elizabeth here to ponder these things.

We had a happy time (how can you not be happy with homemade chocolate cake? HRH said, "nothing wrong with that", which is a huge compliment).

I got credit for my small gift which was a remembrance that made others smile. So, good deal. I had been saving it for the occasion.

HRH got to see what I mean about the fast-growing puppy being difficult to control. He's been saying it wouldn't be difficult for HIM. Now he knows.

A cousin of HRH's called and wants to come over. I still don't know how to handle vulnerable visitors well at this house, without a porch, without my lawn chairs (which I should replace, for goodness' sake). I hope she will think to bring her mask. She should, now that I think about it - it would probably be top-of-mind for her every day.

I was thinking that I draw on a strong suit in always trying to learn. I want to keep learning all the time. I know that now I am more well-rounded and less likely to be fooled or sidelined than I used to be.

Well... I am at a loss. Strengths? What strengths? Goodness... I am just muddling through.
I tell dh that he is NOT "putting me through so much" and there is "NOTHING to apologize for," but y'all... it IS wearing me down. (J&C post explains more.) I'm tired and emotional, and I am sure the past several weeks with dh feeling so bad also has contributed to my crazy state of mind.

I did have a good weekend -- spent a lot of Saturday at local festival with dgrands & ds, who was playing music there. Had both dgrands again on Sunday afternoon/night and they were pretty good, for the most part.
Took them to school this morning and will go to dgs' ballgame tonight with ds & dgs -- don't know if dh will make it or not. DDIL has worked the last 5 nights, and this is a game that will mean we won't get home till after 9:00 pm, at best. DDIL said she thought she and dgd would stay home.

So sweet of LadyM's ds to rescue the kitten.

(((Rose))) and (((ds/ddil))) dealing with toddler issues.

You know, I worry sometimes about dgs -- dgd is just crazy about him, looks up to him so much, and he is basically indifferent to her -- I mean, he's not MEAN or anything (unless she gets him stirred up and they both want the same toy/electronic/etc at the same time) but he sees her as mainly a big annoyance in his life and would rather be alone for the most part. I don't know how much of this is "normal" and how much could be attributed to the fact that he is on the spectrum and just doesn't always realize how his words and actions might affect others. I do try to talk to him about this, that something that might not hurt HIS feelings might be VERY hurtful to someone else.

We tried to see the eclipse last night, but it was too cloudy here.

National Drawing Day, and the invention of the graphite pencil -- makes me think of my ddad, who was a draftsman. He started back in the days when everything was drawn by hand with a graphite pencil... and retired years after CAD came along and everything was done on computers.
Tomorrow is another day.
