Patience and Time Sunday

Hello hello
I finished an hour of weeding - the soil is great today - not hard. It is not a fast job; I will need patience and time to finish this area. My pumpkins are looking great!
trying to keep my sugars at bay. I am trying to eat something little every two hours.

after lunch I plan on going outside again and do another section of really tall weeds that are next to the other side of the pumpkins.

Dh, dd older and I had a wonderful time at the family party yesterday.

Yep! Bittersweet, he'll soon be 84 and still running like an E nergizer Bunny. I can't believe he's reached this age. We both feel we're still in our 50's.

Been doing some deeper cleaning in our bathroom. Getting those "one thing a day" things done in pretty good order.

Was just looking at airfares. See the one I'm looking at has gone up $70 (one-way) in the last few days. Not that it matters as I have nearly $300 in "credit" if it ever hits my email. It has to be used within 6 months anyway. Hopefully by the time I fly back next spring (that's a "long" way off -not as much as we'd like to think) it'll be down. We all can only hope that gas prices will come down long before that. (I'm assuming they're also up in Canada, Bittersweet?)

Your comment about being tail whipped made me laugh. Pitty tails and others you mentioned are like wampum’ sticks in high gear. Not all pitties are high energy, my Willis was sort of in between. I checked our our dog shelter in my area to see if they needed volunteers, but they said they have plenty. I could volunteer with the wild horse rescue here in FL, but it’s a 30 min drive from here… the one in AZ was 25.. but with the price of gas I think I’ll wait a while.

What kind of pup do you have. Sadie, my boxer, was a food gobbler so I fed her on a high platform which helped.

So surprised patience was in the minister's sermon this morning, on patience and, specifically, on waiting sometimes being "almost viscerally painful". She started with the very true story of Houston airport solving their complaint problem of bags taking so long, by increasing the length of the walk from the planes to the baggage area. MIT researcher Richard Lawson explained that we will tolerate occupied time, but unoccupied time can feel unendurable. She said that the "woman with the issue of blood" not only waited 12 years for help, but the problem would have kept her constantly tired from loss of iron and platelets. We could consider her an example of someone "so tired of waiting".

Usually in our house there is rapt attention for special piano music, for children's message and for sermon. HRH pointed out that we have become somewhat lax in attention to the rest of the service, since we're at home. True. I think the rest of the music, bless their hearts, is somewhat flat. As in, perhaps not quite in tune but flat. We should have more patience.

Using time wisely - well, in planning the coming week, yes. In doing much today, not so much.

Also, I must see to it I daydream enough today. I wouldn't want to neglect anything so important.

d dee my grandmother used to say that on the outside she may look like she is in her 80's but inside she was still 20 something!

I will have to go outside again but waving to everyone. I will give my self one more hour in the inside garden to continue weeding. I can now see the pumpkin plants instead of all the tall grass and weeds - I still have about another 6 hours of work in that area. dd brought the straw in the yard so I can reduce weeds and support the pumpkin plants.

dd will make dinner. yay!

So glad I stopped by the market after church got a few things they were out of when I was there last time.
Pre cooked a few more items for the dish I am making for meals ahead.
Looking forward to farmer's mkt this week.
A few less activities at church as pasor W. is on vacation & I have some other things going on.

Nancy, I also gave myself a boost by getting more future-cooking done. This is creating appetizing leftovers for fridge, not ambitious freezing or canning, but it helps a lot.

blessed, during Covid time, we have been watching services of a local "First" church in nearby town, which has both women and men in all positions. It's old-ish, and I've visited several times in the past. I've also corresponded and chatted with a couple ministers there. It's very hard to figure out how to visit churches right now, much less decide to change membership, so I think that's one universal item of family business that has probably slowed to a crawl for many, just like taking vacations or hosting reunions, etc.

Both HRH and I also have our favorite additional studies we watch, more physically distant from here, but meaningful to us. The women at membership church send HRH "thinking of you" cards on a regular basis since he was previously on their prayer list, but that's just about the only contact with that church. They don't have a new minister yet, though, so maybe it's nobody's job otherwise, to ask why people stopped coming. I'm sure that just a chatty conversation with HRH would be nothing to dread. Having the tough conversation with me - I can see why nobody wants to step up.

Dee, I hope you find those glasses Mr DeeClutter needs. So sorry to hear your dbil is lonely. Hoping he can find some cheer.

Have been doing some watering and a bit of weeding. I think I'll set the sunniest bed to have the soaker hose drip for an hour or two.

very true - it is very difficult to figure out churches right now (or just going to church). my brother's church is still doing outside services on a large screen- it's become very popular especially with the seniors and the farmers.
It's hard that they haven't gotten a new minister. yes it's very hard when no one wants to step up. I hope you find what is right for you both.

I'm posting without cuop because otherwise, I may never check in with you ladies! What a day... a GOOD day, in a lot of ways, but I am exhausted.

Day started out with church, and dgs led the prayer (it was a written thing; he just had to read it, but he did a good job.) We had a guest speaker, and the message was right on target for me -- Choose Your Battles. He made the point that sometimes we take on battles that are not ours to fight. I am guilty of that a lot of the time, and I'm in the midst of it right now, actually... trying to keep this sermon in mind.
Our new pastor's first Sunday will be next Sunday. We are all so excited -- she was our youth director when ds was in high school.

After dgs' piano lesson, we went out to dmom's; she didn't feel like celebrating dgs' birthday with us, so we went out there to let her give dgs his card (and some money) and she wanted me to write out some checks for her. I did that, mailed them when I got back to town, dropped off the payment for her storage units at their dropbox, and picked up dgs' cake. The girl did an EXCELLENT job on the cake. DGS was very pleased. (And especially surprised & happy that I thought to ask for a Minecraft theme.)

Then the party, at pizza place in Next Town. Not Ch*cky Ch**s* -- dgs has "graduated" to regular restaurant, I guess. DDIL's parents and brother, dbil & his girlfriend, and dh and myself were the only guests, and I guess everyone had a good time.

The battle I am in is one I can't win, and might as well forget about, and I'll put it over in MO for privacy...
We did get some rain -- just as the party was winding down, it came a FLOOD. At least we were parked close to the door, thanks to dh's handicapped tag.

My sink is full of dishes, mostly drinking glasses. I need to wash those before I go to bed, and do the allergy shots and all the other Sunday night stuff. I took the garbage to the road before we went to the party. (Well, I walked with dgs while he pushed the can.)
I just had to take a nap when we got home -- I was trying to read the paper and kept nodding off.
I do have high hopes for the week ahead, and SO FAR... nothing really on the calendar.
