Happy Independence Day to all the SHEs south of the border! For anyone still dealing with ridiculously hot weather, you'll be happy to know that today is also Sidewalk Egg Frying Day. Our weather is definitely much cooler than it was this time last year. At that time, we were dealing with record breaking high temps. In June 2021, the highest temperature ever recorded in Canada was recorded in a small town called Lytton, BC - 49.6C (121F!!) Unfortunately, the next day, an out of control wildfire swept through the town and razed about 90% of it. Plans are underway to begin rebuilding the town hopefully in September of this year.
DS and I went over to dMum's yesterday afternoon and got a LOT of weeding and pruning done! It's still nowhere near done, but you can actually see some progress now. We completely filled the green bin (240 litres or 63 gallons), plus two "extra yard waste" paper bags. I've got a lot on the go today, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get over there again, but I'm hoping.......
In the meantime, I need to get my list for the day ready, and get off my backside! More coffee would be great, too!

Our weather forecast is boring. Triple digit. Triple digit. Triple digit. Triple digit. Triple digit. Triple digit. in 10 days, it is predicted to drop to 98F. Thankfully, my body is used to this weather now and doesn't seem to bother me. I do remain aware though. It seems every year we lose a friend to the heat. Those who survive a heatstroke are never the same and seem to lose their ability to cope with the heat.
This is recovery & regroup week for me. I was so busy last week that I went into survival mode only doing the bare basics. I haven't been to the garden in four days!! I want to get back into the groove and get all the plates spinning again.

LadyM, we don't have a firm idea of how long the kitchen will take, unfortunately. And at the moment, don't have a firm idea of when he is starting. We listed the cabinets last night on Facebook Marketplace but perhaps asking too much. Only scammers so far responding. (Dfriend M recommended pricing, I'll drop if I need to?) I know the builder isn't being evasive, he's had computer issues but it feels like it's always something.

we have had a shooting in a really lovely area that I go to a lot - about 50 minutes from here and is close to d sis in law and where my d mom in law lived. d friends live there are they were at the parade when it happened but are safe. Highland Park, Illinois - where Ravinia and the botanic gardens are. I go to the beach there sometimes. The shooter wasn't caught. 1 dead and 8 hurt. Not something that happens around these nice areas.
We are supposed to go to the Evanston parade but with the shooter still being out there I am not sure if that is a good thing. my sis in laws haven't canceled going and the city hasn't canceled it either.
Praying for everyone. I don't know what I am going to do - I will leave it to dh
Now: 6 dead and 19 hurt. I am grateful the young couple and their family are safe now but so sad for all the families and the suburb of Highland Park. the young man left his gun and they figure he is about 18 -20 years old.
The parade and fireworks we were supposed to go to has been cancelled. There was supposed to be a big beach gathering for the previous, and currant, sailing and beach staff today. All of that has been cancelled. Tactical teams are there - and Chicago police have come in to help the area. Never in a million years would I have thought this would have happened.

They say an 8 year old girl is now in surgery so I am waiting to hear how she is doing. I also am going to check the names to see if anyone I know has been hurt.
((((Blessed)))) yes, it is very sad (to say the least). It brings strong emotions when these senseless things occur.
I did an experiment in cooking BBQ pork & potatoes with the countertop oven. It was not a success. After 1.5 hours in that oven, I took the food out and finished cooking it using stovetop and microwave. I won't be doing that method of cooking again.
I have been clearing the countertops in the kitchen. I usually keep them clear but last week things were allowed to stay where they landed. When I do it daily it takes a minute or two. When it stacks up then it takes MUCH longer to get everything cleaned, organized, and put where it belongs.
I have taken care of the rabbits since DD11 is with DD46. In this triple digit heat, it is vital to keep shade & cool water available in the rabbit cages.
The effort to get the garden brought back to its standard care is underway. I have two garden hoses with sprinklers of water on the sweet potato raised bed. The leaves were wilted but are starting to return to their normal appearance. I normally stay up with watering by doing 2 raised beds a day but the entire garden is wilted and struggling after being neglected. I recently posted a video of the tomato plants on FB. The tomato plants are approaching 10' tall with a 3 ft diameter and loaded with tomatoes. It isn't a small undertaking to care for them when I get behind on daily maintenance. I'm estimating there are 5 gallons of tomatoes ready to be harvested and probably close to a gallon of peppers ready to be harvested.
